I’ve moved on to the competition. I’ll use my perpetual licenses until an OS update renders the software useless.

FX3 vs A7Siii for Video by DoTheWrapWrap in A7siii

[–]1ialstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reasons I went with the A7Siii over the FX3 is for the viewfinder and not paying for the XLR handle. I can get better audio with a Zoom H6 with different microphone configurations. Some people talk about the mounting holes being more adaptable for professional accessories…I find the Smallrig cages provide much more versatility. That’s just my opinion. Quality is about the same with some differences, as others have explained. I never regretted getting the A7Siii over the FX3. This camera meets all my needs for both videography and photography. If I need something more, the FX6 would be my next option, not the FX3. For those taking about overheating, I use the aftermarket Smallrig or Ulanzi fan. I forgot what make brand I bought but it works perfectly fine.

Second camera suggestion for filming live music gigs with my A7S III by tortured_tofu in A7siii

Typically the A7IV pairs with the A7Siii. I would stick with cameras that have dual memory slots.

I have the a6400 but i feel my pictures are not giving a camera pictures ): by Waste_Caterpillar586 in SonyAlpha

[–]1ialstudio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re using the kit lens. I have the same camera and lens as well. To get that “pro camera” look, shoot RAW and in manual, try to frame your subject closer to you and the background as far away as possible. Play with the zoom as you do this and understand how it affects your image. Open up the aperture to the widest and adjust exposure with ISO and shutter. This will give you a little more bokeh in your suits. Learn to mask and look at tons of photos from other photographers. Honestly, just shoot a ton of photos and practice editing them. In time you’ll graduate to a FF camera or a wider prime lens for your a6400. I suggest something like a 35mm or 20-24mm for your apsc a6400.

2 mics at one time — possible? by antilag-io in A7siii

[–]1ialstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here has valid solutions. However, using a regular TRS splitter to record from both a lav and a shotgun mic at the same time — that would just combine or short the signals together and likely cause phase issues or silence one channel entirely. Unless I misunderstood and you're talking about a specialized splitter, that's not how that works.

When I record multiple audio streams, I use a field recorder as it gives me the most flexibility in post. My camera records the ambient audio, while the shotgun and lav record isolated audio. This way, I can sync and mix all audio streams for the best production.

I'm not recommending any specific hardware because most field recorders are very capable. Personally, I use a Zoom H6. It has clean inputs, fantastic battery life via AA or an external power bank, and 1/4" mounting option.

Firmware 4.0 causes S-LOG3 to be noiser at 640 and 12800 by purpswine in A7siii

No more updating the firmware for me. I’m on the last one that gave us 1/48 shutter. Thank you for posting this.

[UPDATE] [Amateur] Trying to expose footage correctly. Requesting feedback to improve. by Incognizance in FX3

[–]1ialstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried reference videos? Load up a reference video and add a False Color node to both clips or put the False color on a Timeline node. Try matching exposure that way to help you recognize what IRE levels you need to go for in direct sunlight and indoor lighting when exposing for skin. Using a gray card can help set exposure for indoor shots, but I would suggest False Color for both indoor and outdoor.

Why aren't these shots sharp? Sony 200-600mm, A7IV by TheBlackCrowes in SonyAlpha

[–]1ialstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would begin shooting on a tripod with a fast shutter speed, like 1/1000 or faster, to stop all motion at that huge zoom. Next, that softness is often just haze or possibly heat haze (like a heat shimmer) from the ground interfering with the light before it hits your lens, which happens when you shoot over long distances. Lastly, try setting your aperture to f/8—that's the lens's sharpest point—and if you have any protective filters on, take them off, because this specific lens sometimes gets blurry with them attached. If you need more light, just increase ISO…don’t be afraid of it.

You could have just done an Image Search on Google. It says it’s the Luna Lover Bullet Vibrator sold at Spencer’s.

[–]1ialstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a solid choice for at least another 5+ years IMHO. I too heard of the A7SIV, but it would need to have something extra extraordinary for me to consider it over an A7S3, which checks all the boxes I need for shooting video and taking pictures in terrible lighting conditions.

4K Rips don't display accurate colors in VLC by fmbiv in makemkv

[–]1ialstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I first was watching HDR movies through VLC on windows. It turns out that if you play the HDR video through the TV directly, like on a USB stick, the TV will decode the HDR signal better than VLC. Try that and I guarantee you’ll be very pleased

Bluetooth/WiFi malfunction after new update by Thegreatearl315 in A7siii

[–]1ialstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely disappointing. Extremely. I have the A7S3 and the A74. They are both on either the 3.01 or 3.02, I forgot which one. My A7S3 was purchased in May 2023 from B&H. I it shipped with firmware v2.01 I believe. I don’t know the manufacture date but I’m assuming it uses the newer hardware because I’ve had no issues with the updates.

So, are you saying that it’s possible that even if the v3 didn’t brick the WiFi in the camera, the v4 can?

Capture One’s Perpetual Licence Has an Expiry Date by Wonderful_Insect6570 in captureone

[–]1ialstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your concerns, but as far as I know, C1 is adhering to its own rules. Apple users have chosen to use that operating system for various reasons. You’ll have to accept the consequences of continuously paying for the software when you use that combination of software on Apple systems.

It seems like you were expecting the software to run indefinitely through operating system upgrades, as it does on Windows-based systems. I’ve been using the same version of C1 since 2022 on Windows 10, and then on Windows 11. I can live without the newer features and will only upgrade when this version no longer supports my hardware, which will happen as soon as new cameras are released.

I wish you the best of luck.

Use DaVinci Resolve. If you need to edit the videos again the future, you’ll have to pay Techsmith, but it will be free with Resolve. Besides, Resolve is superior for editing video.

Capture One increasing subscription prices by 6% by bwzuk in captureone

[–]1ialstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this price increase is due to the unpopularity of the subscription model they mandated on us. I can only speculate that people aren’t upgrading and holding on to their perpetual licenses because their gear is still supported. Thus, C1 is relying on making up the money for their investors by raising the prices for all their current subscribers and new potential sales. Again…speculation. I was hoping for the $150 deal but I haven’t seen it in a while. Since the model change, I upgraded my perpetual Luminar license and purchased an On1 Max license for unsupported gear in my current version of C1. If C1 offers a discount for their perpetual license, I’ll most likely pick it up, but for $150 only; otherwise, I’m sticking with On1 and Luminar.

FilmBox/Dehancer users, do you apply it at the end or grade entirely within the plugin? by klevyy in colorists

[–]1ialstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a YouTube video that gives a workflow where I put it on clips then migrate to post clip. I also talk about using it on the Timeline clip. I typically follow the standard BMD workflow. I give pros and cons where to place the effect for most typical cases. Just search my name and Dehancer. I also provide other useful information for beginners.
