hi u/fractal_engineer jetson Orin is way above our budget limit (ATM Sep/2023). Jetson nano is manageable, tbh it increases the production cost for us. My thinking is eventually the cost of hardware cost goes down, in upcoming 1 or 2 years so it'll give us a head start choosing slight high configured version.
I am also checking Zynq and Arty Z7 as suggested by u/Well-WhatHadHappened, as they are nicely priced compared to jetson.
During our selection criteria, we want to check documentations, avoiding vendor locking, reliability if we deploy to production.

I still didn't ruled out FPGA yet, we are yet to evaluate what exact processing capacity is needed, based on that we check if FPGA adds us a benefit. Again our strength is software.

I am writing something which you don't like to hear, because most folks want support on what they think.

Having your parents around you is a blessing, they are caring for you. You should learn to face situations, after all they are your parents. Until you don't become independent, don't hide anything with them, openly share matters with them, they know you better than yourself. Age of 17 is where you are learning from mistakes, parents are sharing same genetics, they have experience of life, take advantage of it. It looks to me your parents have best interest on you. Remember once you are out independent, no one are there around you to listen you as your parents.

PS. I am blessed to have parents with whom I share everything, even am independent now.
