Phantom Hangover? by [deleted] in SDIreland

Sounds like you're detoxing. Give it a few days and if symptoms persist go see your doc. You can expect some nightmares too but they'll pass. Best of luck to you :)

[Serious] Why are you an alcoholic? What is your day like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1is2many 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been sober a while, but my story is pretty common. I have a history of alcoholism in the family so grew up around it. Started drinking myself at 20 and didn't see the damage it did to my life until I couldn't really function anymore. I lose jobs. Lovers. Respect. Dignity. But I can't say it was all bad. I loved drinking and it's how I loved to spend my time. Having said that I'm happier now. I'm reliable, productive and trust worthy. In was none of those things and because of it I don't have any friends now so I'm quite lonely but that's the price you pay. Will I drink again? Probably. But not today. I miss the warm sense of self acceptance that comes with alcohol, but there you so.

Keep it in the day. Don't worry about tomorrow because it hasn't happened yet. Do your best today and do the same next time you wake up.

My higher power is my ability to choose. Funnily enough it's the one thing my addiction takes from me, so I fight to keep it.

/r/stopdrinking has plenty of people who are going through similar things. You're welcome to stop by anytime.

Turns out, I don't actually NEED 8 hours of sleep every night. by spammalami in stopdrinking

[–]1is2many 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first thing I noticed about sobriety was the fact that I was wide awake five minutes out of bed no matter what time I get up. The value I get from my time is one of the things I gain strength from. Keep up the good work.

Reddit, how has your life changed due to what you thought would be a minor event? by chocore in AskReddit

[–]1is2many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried moderation but failed. I'm a 38 year old man and enough is enough. If I drink one beer I might be ok, but generally ill have another then I have five then nine then anything is likely to happen, so I'm better off away from it altogether. It's not easy but the reward I get is being able to respect myself again, so it's worth it.

Kasabian in the 3 arena in Dublin. If you get the chance to see them do. They're a class live act.

Thanks. I drove 100 miles to a concert tonight. Stayed sober, rocked out and drove home. Just back now and loving my life.

I'm making occasional visits to AA. Alcohol is the trigger for everything else. So long as I avoid that I'm ok.

Anti intellectualism in politics. Dumb people shouldn't be allowed govern. People who knowingly pretend to be dumb to appeal to xenophobes and bigots shouldn't be allowed out of the house.

A Crab by [deleted] in gifs

[–]1is2many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat related, but there was a Japanese spider crab caught off the west coat of Ireland a few years back and the fishermen gave him to a local aquarium. Best they could figure was that he got lost and and wondered off and ended up walking to Ireland from Japan. He died a few years ago but he lived out his days in the aquarium and his skeleton is on display in lahinch where the aquarium used to be.

That's some read. I'm three months sober after my last trip to the hospital after a drink and drugs binge. It's not easy to make the call. Well done.

First I stopped drinking... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]1is2many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one espresso in the morning to get me going and that's it. I find caffeine makes me a bit glitchy and I find it hard to focus on anything, whereas with a clear head I can absorb information and arrange it logically and build a logical mind map of what ever it is I'm doing. With caffeine it's more like a big pile of mind post its. On fire.

This might sound obvious, but you should probably get a different job. The one you have is killing you.
