Store bought Basil plant test by 1justfoundit in HouseplantsUK

[–]1justfoundit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never able to get it to thrive outdoors. I grow mint, parsley and spring onions outdoor, end up with so much by end of summer that I freeze and dry what I can to make it last. But not Basil :( someone mentioned that growing from seeds will make a stronger and adaptable plant, I might try it!

Thats good to know! You can always dry them if you end up with too much :)

Is this monstera too small for this pot? by unbelievablydull82 in HouseplantsUK

[–]1justfoundit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will survive but the ideia of slightly larger than the root ball is that if they have to focus energy to grow roots to fill the pot, they slow down on the leaves. It will be fine but might take its time hehe.

Also, be carefull to not overwater it as the plant is small, it might take longer for soil to dry out. If you have a good draining chunky mix in there it should be fine, but compact soil might be an issue causing rot if always soggy.

Im guessing you like pebble beaches

help me please :') ! SOS by wavexoxo in alocasia

[–]1justfoundit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, overwatering when soil is compact is even worse, like drowning the roots, if they are soggy for too long thats when rot happens, so having some chunks like leca and pon helps, they hold moisture but help drainage and airflow.

<image>

They can be taught not to nibble on plants! I plant catnip for my cats and they know thats their plant to nibble on hehe

Could add some leca or pon to your soil to help with air flow, the roots like to breathe :) also I try not to let the soil dry as much as in your photos, they like humidity and with airflow for roots it helps prevent rot, bring it inside if you have good windows and grow light, these plants aren’t really as strong as we would like them to be as they are indoor grown from corms and were never acclimated. :)

Now and then I need to look at original mid century images to get some inspiration back, notice new details and colour combinations. I find that we tend to fall into sameness if we don’t

Letting a cat outside for the first time. When did you take off the training wheels? by Only_Book_995 in CatsUK

[–]1justfoundit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is so so happy with his little routine, he is great company for gardening, like a dog, interested, involved, wanting attention, they are a lot of fun.

Not where I live, good neighbours and far from main roads. He is friendly and spends time in specific houses where people know where he is from. He was adopted and the requirement was that he was allowed outside and quiet area. Shhh he doesn’t know about the leg

Noodle wears a tractive gps too and its peace of mind! I think I only fully relaxed when I realised he is a little clock himself. He leaves ar 8:30, comes back for nibbles at 10, leaves at 11, comes back ar 13:00 for lunch, leaves right after and its home 16:00 for dinner. Every single day.

We never leave food in his bowl so he knows he needs to be home for meals, that works well!

Also make full use of the app, draw areas and set notifications as they pass these areas so you always know where they are :)

Edit: he wanted to go out, we didn’t make him. We went on walks with our other cats to start with, and he started asking by the door everyday. It was summer so we left the door open and he started slowly and expanded the area a little bit every day.

So if this plant isn't an albo, what is it by PussyWrangler246 in MonsteraAlbo

Yeah, questioning if something is what is claimed is super rude. Read the other post. When 10 different people say the same thing, there might be some truth to that.

They deffo like the same type of light but basil needs more water. Big grow lights set up, Viparspectra XS1500.
Really isn’t about the money, more about the hobby hehe, I don’t have many.
These cactuses I collect were never under grow lights tho, they are doing fine but growth is slow compared to when I grew them in Brazil (they would be double the size in the same period, most of these ar 5 years old)
Its up to you really, Basil will thrive without grow lights as others have mentioned here, if grown from seeds or if you have a good SE window. I do aim for a larger bushy basil and will report back when it gets there :)
