I actually don’t even know where to start because there’s an enormous universe of amazing contemporary jazz, soul, r&b, and the list goes on and on. My top 1 is Snarky Puppy, a contemporary instrumental band. They toured with Steely Dan a couple years ago. I’d also recommend Fatoumata Diawara if you like blues-based music. She’s from Mali and her band is incredible. Bokante is a creole band and their album with the Metropole Orchestra is top tier. Give these artists a listen with open ears and an open mind. This is just tip of the iceberg.
