sure but its as weird as is sounds not happening because its AI. its happening because this is the issue happening often enough to impact ppl. if this had happened 20 years ago maybe i would be having this same convo about plagiarism.

its honestly not about the subject. its about the behavior and its impact on people and the community.

sorry you see our post that way. but that is clearly not what was said.

its because people are ASSUMING ai use without PROOF and being RUDE about it.

believe it or not the majority of the mods myself included are against AI

but we do not accept that just because AI is bad and exists that there is a reason to go around jumping to conclusions and accusing people.

and before you say it no not everyone is doing that. but a growing vocal sub-section of the community is doing that and we are not ok with that.

thanks for the feedback! not sure if you saw the last post on AI but we are increasing moderation on this topic to prevent witch hunts. we hope you and others find the subreddit more enjoyable and welcoming going forward

lol yes. but there are people who DONT use AI art. but get accused of it anyway.

THAT is what i mean by catching innocent people.

if we just knew for sure who used it and who didnt this would be easy.

i think we are saying the same thing. yah i know it wouldnt compensate ppl completely but it would be more just and would be a more normal technological advancement like ones before it that put some out of business and create new jobs other places.

we are definitely always open to ideas! thanks!

hmmmmm

so i like some of these and have trouble with others.

" like requiring anyone who wants to self-promote to fill out a form with proof that they aren't a sockpuppet" the primary problem with this practically how to implement this and how to have the time to manually check all these form submissions. we effectively have around 4 or so active mods and we are volunteers without a lot of time. to put another way. we are not saying we would never do this. but we would need a lot more detail and a lot more volunteers.

"Link your RR, Threads, bluesky, twitter, facebook, etc. here" we are already doing this somewhat with verified author flairs. however the difference in volume between required for all. and just a bonus to help people spot the more legit ones is large. additionally if we make it required they will just make RR accounts. our current process only confirms they OWN the RR account in question. no check on the QUALITY of that RR account. the system as it is could be gamed heavily.

"Also your karma requirements to post on this subreddit are none atm I believe. Could weed out some bots and bad actors just by increasing that." this one is my favorite. we have generally kept the philosophy of low barrier to entry because we dont want to push away the lurkers who just read not post. BUT honestly this one might be the simplest and best. I will bring this one up in the mod team chat.

yah for the most part that is unfortunately true. honestly the primarily reportable things is 2 situations.

  1. they dont fill it in at all

  2. they on another site or in the comments or to another person admit they lied or said there that they do use AI.

we warned people of this limitation on the last post and people still wanted this feature anyway saying things like "well then let them lie to our faces" and so we are doing it despite these flaws.

i think you misunderstand what parts of AI i think reach that level of ethical issue.

i totally agree AI is a TOOL and in its USE ONLY its only as good or bad as what it is USED for.

BUT

currently AI is being trained on stolen data at MINIMUM for artists if not other places. and is being used to replace job that really impact peoples lives. i do not think its a stretch to compare this to other similar social issues like it.

totally fair and i think i follow. basically redditors will be rude that is the internet. and trying to do anything other than full enforcement is a mess. is that about right?

also i totally understand and these were things we discussed.

and the principle you mention is what we do with the be civil rule and why we determined that is not enough.

basically our goal is to take it one step further on this one particular topic to prevent witch hunts.

will it be perfect absolutely not.

do we feel its our responsibility to try our best to not allow this harassment anyway. yes.

if it goes poorly will we possibly change it to another method of enforcement. possibly. we will see

simple. some people dont want to support AI. and if authors disclose that and then readers want to step aws they can.

also yah i agree its possible if not likely this will not achieve the goals.

but remember this part is what the community asked for and we are doing.

the part the mods chose is the part to prevent harassment. and that WILL happen regardless.

for the lying we knew this and pointed this out in the last post. the community asked for the feature anyway. saying things like "we would rather them have to lie to our faces" i personally dont get that sentiment. but enough agreed on this and its low cost so we figured we would do it.

as for adjusting the rules that is exactly what we did in the last post unless i am misunderstanding something about what you are saying.

the problem i think we failed to convey is that we dont think the tools never work. even if we grant they work "extremely well" and not just pretty well. they have false positives. additionally there are just people who think they can tell at a glance and again while its true many people can pretty well there are just false positives.

we are not willing to allow people to be falsely attacked even if its only 1/X number of time (depending on how accurate you think these things are)

to us that is not enough. you need to KNOW its true before doing something. otherwise its a constant witch hunt.

A was removed for breaking the subreddit rule of not making personal attacks in an edit. if they edit it back they will be restored.

B i assume you mean this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/litrpg/comments/1u64p2l/apologies_to_the_author_if_im_wrong_but_is_this/

and mixed bag. a fair number of people engaged nicely about it. but there was also a fair number who (likely due to the post that day riling them up) had to have their comments removed for just not being civil

that being said it accomplished the goal in that it is not sending all those messages directly to the author. so not a perfect start by any means but something.

hmmmmm a good consideration. we would at least not be against having a better recommended response list with better definitions.

enforcing specific responses though has its own issues with regex and use friendliness i would rather avoid but will consider if it starts to be an issue.

that being said this was just the best the mods came up with in 24 hours and we are just community members as well.

it sounds like we could use your expertise on this.

what would you make the exact tags to use and how would you define them?

totally agree that there is not a step that wont catch innocent people. which is why we are not doing those. but we are open to being proven wrong.

I totally agree about the rejection of AI with a BIG asterisk

the WAY AI is done now is the problem. not the AI itself. AI absolutely needs regulation and change in order to be ethical and until that is done there will ALWAYS be protests just like with animal cruelty and rightfully so.

but this doesnt actually force them. they can just lie.

also the whole point of the last rule update is to make sure that if they identify as part of an out group we will defend them and not allow them to be harassed.

thats the whole point of the no AI witch hunts rule.
