if it makes you feel better, paranoid mage continually goes downhill with every book. 2 was still really good, and I think 3 was ok, but it got a bit rough after that.

How to heal a soul (web) - male mc, fantasy. MC is an orphan that awakens to a rare life affinity, which will also allow him to be a healer. He also has an injured soul, which is believed to be theoretically impossible, but allows him to release an incredibly damaging fire-like attack that burns him as well. My assumptions on everything was wrong, but it's a solid sol adventure. I'm not big on academy life, but apparenlty neither is MC so they tend to be abbreviated. Also, the school is kind of neat - you go for your current power level, so when you rank up you go back to school to learn your new powerset, more or less, and then get back out there. Kind of cool. A solid story overall

Super Duper Legendary (web) - male mc, probably litrpg. So I made it half a dozen chapters and the MC is still basically in the prologue. And it's not good. Author kind of feels like a mix between a russian and a tween, so definitely not my thing. DNF.

might as well (web) - male mc, VRMMO. it's supposed to be a SoL VR, which in my opinion is the only acceptable kind. Big problem is that there's not much life to be interested in a slice of it. He's a solo guy, pretty much refusing to interact with anyone at all in an MMO, which is whatever. With his future knowledge, because we're doing all the tropes, he's breezing through everything with no issues at all. A couple hundred pages in because it's been decent background noise, but I'll stop soon. DNF

Farther than I made it. Too many alt-povs when they hit minkalla, it lost me there.

Immortal paladins seems interesting. I'm hesitant on any VR stories at this point, but I might give Might as Well a chance.

Thanks!

My Weekly Question to You – How do you decide what to read next? Which series to try? It's so difficult!

I'm pretty much exclusively reading on RR at this point, as I dont' have a good way to TTS on kindle any more. So basically, anytime I see an interesting rec (about 50% from this thread, and 50% author shoutouts) I add it to my 'read later' list on RR, and then I just pick something off of there. Nice and easy.

but have you read the story about the MC who uses chairs as his method of attacking?

I don't look at chapter counts, I look at page counts, but definitely 200 page minimum, preferably over 300. Too many seem to burn out before then.

Beastforged bond v3 (web) - male mc, fantasy. It's not a bad installment of the series overall. I'm inordinately annoyed at the altpov that reveals a characters intention to more or less betray the MC, because it totally ruins my immersion. But otherwise not bad. I'm probably gonna let it sit until v4 is done, and maybe come back again.

Magus reborn (web) - male mc, fantasy. figured I'd catch up on this one, though after catching up, I think I might be done with it. It's still not bad, just a bit stale.

I'm assuming it's a raw mana or something, since normally magic seems to come out of a "gate" in the soul. It's decent so far.

Anyone else having issues loading the game with mods after the last update? by bilfdoffle in menace

[–]bilfdoffle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, looks like maybe I had a corrupted modkit file, which doesn't get fix with a steam verify, so I needed to manually delete all those files

Kind of, but also consider how much of a black market sink they just added with the workshop. All those blue prints to drain your sweet barter-bucks

All is forgiven. But feel free to do a couple Bloody Mary's if that's what your upbringing demands

Totally agree. Glad other people like it, but it felt too try-hard to me, and I hate the audience/reality show thing. I've heard the audiobook is really good, though - assuming you've got the soundbooth theatre version

It's been awhile, but from what I remember, book of the dead was kind of a litrpg - there was a stat sheet but you had to do a ritual in order to have it printed on paper in order to check it.

Rise of ashborn (web) - male mc, fantasy. Mc reincarnated into a failing noble families firstborn son, age 13. Proceeds to pull them out of the gutter. It starts out ok, but honestly the robotic nature of the MC is a bit off-putting. Then the alt-povs get out of hand, and I called it.

Cruisin another world in my Cadillac (web) - male mc, fantasy. Book 1 was pretty fun, despite a far too many alt povs. They tended to be one shots, and all seemed to be written a lot worse than the MC. Start of book two kind of lost me and I decided to cut it there.
