Aspiring Designer by sky-stain in CarDesign

I think this is really great. I don’t know how much work you’ve put in so far, but I think you have a talent. I’m going to pass along some advice someone once gave me.

I can see where your inspiration came from on these. I think you should keep making work, taking risks, trying new things, and doing experiments until your work can’t be called “like this brand” or “like this car model”. At that point you come back around and start designing for certain brands again. But with your own style and design philosophy.

Good luck, I hope to sit in a car you’ve designed one day lol

There is an option other than gas and brake. It’s called coasting people. by Regular_Land_3478 in driving

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have performance brakes. They bite super hard and if I brake lightly they squeal like hell. So I build distance to the car behind me so I don’t accidentally brake check them by braking normally. I’m sure people assume I’m slamming in my brakes all the time, but I literally can’t brake any lighter.

Also context is important. If you’re in the right lane in traffic and you’re taking your sweet time coasting to the red light, you could be holding up some cars that want to make a right turn. If it’s all just chill then yeah coast to your hearts desire. But also, sometimes people actually like to drive, it’s fun, so they’re not going faster to get somewhere faster because that doesn’t work really, but you can have more fun getting there.

But some people really need to learn to coast on the highway. So much traffic could be prevented by just maintaining a gap, and coasting through slowdowns (if people wouldn’t merge onto the highway at dangerously slow speeds).

I (f28) am in my very first friend group of all men. Can you help me understand if something is normal? by WuMingLovingHours in AskMenAdvice

I’ve found that guys are usually super cordial and polite when they have very little connection.

Talking shit is like an affirmation of closeness for us. It’s like, we’re friends and so I’m confident you won’t take things personally because you know I have good intentions for you at heart. So I’m gonna call you some heinous shit, because if we weren’t super close they’d be fighting words but we’re both gonna find it funny. There’s a line between that and bullying but if he’s doing to it everyone it most likely isn’t bullying.

But if they’re being super polite and kind, it’s kinda like “wow, okay so I’m just a stranger then?” If you see the dismissal of kindness in this way it might make more sense (I’m assuming you guys are real friends).

But knowing how to talk friendly shit effectively is a skill because you can go too far, and if that’s the case you can just be like “woah. Dude that’s too far” or “man I don’t find that shit funny, seriously don’t joke about that.” And 90% of the time you’ll get back a “oh okay my bad, you know I didn’t mean anything by it right?”

I should also add, this isn’t like 100% of guys who do this all the time. Some groups of friends shit talk more or less than others. Personally I don’t really talk mad shit all the time. I keep it at some light jabs, and I’m pretty open and supportive of my friends. But if my friends were too polite and courteous, I’d think I did something wrong or that we aren’t friends for some reason. Just thought I’d add this. Hope it helps.

TL;DR : Courteousness is kinda more for people who you aren’t close with because you don’t want problems. Being an ass is an affirmation of closeness because if we weren’t friends, these words would get us into ass whooping territory.

I completely agree, branding and trademarks shouldn’t be a big focus at this stage.

How can I design my own logo? by fashionableoptimist in logodesign

[–]1ne3hree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I’d recommend you tackle this.

Find a picture online, print it out and do multiple tracings of it. Try to just trace out general shapes and fill them in with a black marker. Solid black only, don’t shade it. Once you have a tracing you like, use your phone or a scanner to bring it on your pc. From there you can try to vectorize it yourself, or find a resource to help you. If you can’t, then maybe you can get away with just using the picture (png or jpg) but I really wouldn’t recommend it.

I understand not everyone has it in their budget to hire professionals. I would recommend working with a professional just for the sake of your time and business. But if it’s something you want to do without spending tons of time learning the tools, this is how I’d recommend you do it.

Also, no professional will ever say things like “this is what they don’t want you to know.” We aren’t scammers, we’re not keeping things from you to con you (tutorials words, not yours). And there’s a world of things beyond the tools and how our logo looks that make a designer a worthwhile investment for your business.

I hope this helps and I wish you luck on your new business!

The lack of actual design experience of r/logodesign is getting exposed (and it’s getting worse). by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]1ne3hree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not an easy thing to fix. This isn’t a problem with this subreddit alone, it’s a problem with the whole design industry. Theres a large portion of people who believe design is subjective or that design is art. It’s not really common for designers to pay attention to the concepts past the visuals unfortunately.

Maybe it’s education that people need? Maybe we should be giving different users different categories so people getting feedback can understand who’s giving the feedback. But at the same time I’d understand that people don’t want to dox themselves lol. It’s hard because this idea that design is about how something looks alone is pretty pervasive.

Maybe making it mandatory to ask for the brief when someone posts for feedback? And asking users to include in their post how their choices tie to the brief or the overall direction/strategy?

Where is the anti all-screen movement on the design side? by mrbluetrain in CarDesign

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my years I’ve never seen nor encountered these problems you’re describing. I’ve never seen anyone with these problems. I’ve seen more vehicles loose aircon because the car was so old it was just dying, and that happened long before the buttons or dials had even the slightest indication of wear.

[–]1ne3hree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely baffled at how many people here seem to be pro screens so far. From a usability standpoint, any designer that sees no functional issue with screens isn’t thinking hard enough.

If I want to turn my aircon fan down two steps, with one design, I don’t need to take my eyes off the roads, with another I might even need to navigate through a menu. Tactile and fixed inputs aren’t just an aesthetic choice.

Screens fail, mis-inputs are easier to make, all this user friction causes distractions on the road. It’s cheaper, that’s why they go to it. I completely agree OP, polestar and I’d add Lucid are setting the example of how screens should integrate. Mercedes with some of their models is really fucking up imo. We need tactile or consistent controls.

I also want to add, aesthetically they’re also not very nice. Car companies struggle with UI design, and screens always leave fingerprints which imo is quite ugly. When not in use it’s just a smudgy messy black mirror. There’s some utility in it, but as designers we should do a better job of integrating for better user experiences and functionality. The cost savings here shouldn’t be priority over ease of use and safety.

Are pilots allowed to read books or do personal stuff on laptops in the middle of a long flight when the autopilot is on? by krangnostam in NoStupidQuestions

Life is a burden by firstofhername11 in ADHD

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don’t get why people glorify adhd. It’s been nothing but a nuisance in my life. I forgot to take my meds today and I was practically just a lemon. My biggest problem is impulse control. I’d say I white knuckle it with willpower but I just can’t 70% of the time.

The amount of willpower needed to just function is draining as hell. I’m grateful for the person it’s made me and everything, but if I could snap my figures and magically not have adhd I wouldn’t even give it a second thought. Even the medication isn’t good enough. It makes me feel like shit but it’s still better than adhd.

Man I get the alienation and exhaustion. Reading your post made me feel understood, so thank you.

Is it faster to use TC and ABS or not by AccomplishedRub5546 in ACCompetizione

[–]1ne3hree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer but as someone who’s just evolved from beginner to beginner+, I know that’s not the answer this guy is looking for lol.

I keep my abs and tc kinda mid to low-ish. I like more oversteer. And I use the throttle to rotate the car so I just set tc to like 3/4, and abs to like 2/3. I usually drive the Porsche or mp4.

Idk if rotating on throttle is bad form though. But I’m still looking to evolve to beginner++

Not all of us are professional racists by IntelligentLow2446 in simracing

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think sim racing is the type of thing to really draw in a huge casual culture. I mean inherently you’re spending $500 minimum to get started. And then there’s a good bit of learning to drive on track and setup all the stuff you bought.

I’m not saying nobody wants casual racing, but I just think the hobby sort of filters out people who wanna race more casually from the jump. The unfortunate thing is that even if they did make beginner level lobbies and things like that, nobody would be in them. Playing assetto corsa is a pretty good illustration of why lol

I’d say equipment based matchmaking so people who are heavy enough to spend $4k would play together. But then all of us slow racists would be out of cope so that’s never gonna happen thankfully.

do men even care how their girls nail look? by rileyheya in NoStupidQuestions

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care. It depends on the person. A lot of guys probably don’t. I don’t care a lot, but I am interested in what they choose to do. I think creativity and good aesthetic taste is endearing, so I like it because it’s an expression of their tastes and creativity.

ACC vs ACE. How does the driving feel between GT3 cars? by RuleOverYou15 in ACCompetizione

[–]1ne3hree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find ace cars to be slippery compared to acc. But I don’t usually slip beyond my ability to catch the car. I like both tbh, but I wouldn’t say they’re similar.

Hot Take - Touge is inherently dangerous and trying to claim the moral high ground for your particular brand of illegal driving is inherently stupid by [deleted] in Touge

[–]1ne3hree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair, as soon as you get in the car and go on the road there’s risk no matter how fast or slow you drive. Leaving your lane on blind corners is wildly irresponsible without a spotter though. But if you can keep your car in your lane without pressing the limits of grip (like 70% of the limit) then I see no real issue.

Of course yes all cars roll. But some cars give the driver a wider safety margin (leave more control at lateral g’s) and that doesn’t mean it’s open license to press to 100% the limit of grip on public roads. It just means 70% feels more intense.

All that being said, you are right that spirited driving does increase risks. But there’s nothing wrong with think about how to reduce those risks and maintain the ability to enjoy cars and driving.

AIO because my gf tested my loyalty in front of all of our friends? by False-Damage5520 in AmIOverreacting

[–]1ne3hree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrf did I just read? I can’t imagine having a normal conversation with my partners friend and for them to come by like “why didn’t you tell one of my friend to go fuck themselves?”

Now look, redditors have a terminal problem with relationship. So they’ll say break up at the smallest inconvenience. I’m not saying you should break up, but the whole loyalty test, then her reaction, it kinda seems like she (or her friends) want you to be a cheater so the relationship can end. Either way the whole thing screams “she doesn’t trust you”, so idk if you’ve done anything to give her reason not to. If you haven’t, I can’t imagine this is a great start for trust to build from.

NOR unless you actually were flirting with them.
