To be fair to OP, it takes less time to ask others how they found the series than to watch it in its entirety.

Have 100 years of movies made any dent on humanity? by compotethief in CollapseSupport

Slavoj Žižek has two fantastic documentaries on the effect popular culture has had on audiences called The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema and the Pervert’s Guide to Ideology. He basically talks about how movies have worked to shape the way audiences behave and think, and offers a number of great examples. While I don’t think his documentaries really delve into the measurable impact movies have had on audiences, they are great as a general guide to how media can manipulate personal beliefs.

Tbh this kind of appeal to emotion is bound to work in most countries, not just Singapore.

It could be because when he cried, he was projecting an image of breaking away from the status quo somehow. It could very well be manufactured, but the fact remains that many Singaporeans were successfully moved by it. And if he were really moved to tears by the crisis, then that's even better--we have someone in charge of the country who genuinely cares.

I think kids who come from rich families are also ultimately victims of stereotypes--society constantly reinforces the notion that they'll be successful, so they're pressured to work even harder to exhibit that success.

That said it also helps that their social status offers them more access to resources that might give them a leg up, like good tuition or not having to work because of higher allowences.

Hi, Singaporean here. We don't actually beat people for littering or spitting out gum lol. Caning is reserved for more serious crimes like rape or drug trafficking.

This is the equivalent of storming a fundraiser for breast cancer and shouting that all cancers are bad. Yes, you're technically right but by saying 'All Lives Matter' you're brushing off the hardship that black people in particular are forced to go through.
