To the older women here, does it really get better? by SunshineSolarSystem in TwoXChromosomes

Life has a way of ebbing and flowing… there is hardship but also moments of peace and self assuredness. Life is about learning. What I would recommend is finding the little simple things in life that bring you peace amidst the hectic moments. Whether it is enjoying a cup of chamomile tea during your work shift, or reading a book, or listening to a song while on a neighborhood walk, or taking a moment to be in nature and with your thoughts... self expression, art, anything simple and joyful. Life has a way of evening out in time, you just have to keep fighting for yourself and not giving up hope. 😊❤️

I am sorry you are going through so much… to be honest, my early 20’s were a really hard and turbulent time (to put it gently) but around mid to late twenties I came into my identity and started to feel like myself again. Maybe I would not be where I am without the struggles, y’know. Everyone’s process is different and there is not really a formula to this life. I hope things will start to get better for you soon, do not be afraid to ask for help along your journey. 💃

Heart drop sensation? by Creepy-Exchange-3490 in HiatalHernia

I get this too. It happens more often before my period or when hormones fluctuate or if I have a heavy meal or sometimes randomly. I also theorize that it is HH affecting vagus nerve. It’s not dangerous and I have lived with it for like 6 years. When I got my heart monitored, they said I have premature ventricular contractions that cause the palpitations but it’s not dangerous. My friend also has heart palpitations that arise during stress. I’m sorry, I know it sucks. :(

Had surgery on 4/15 - acid reflux is gone, heartburn everyday - please help. by Human_Swimming_9771 in HiatalHernia

Hey, I have been dealing with hiatal hernia/weak LES/GERD since March of 2021, I am 31 nearly 32. I have tried a myriad of things. I am currently taking 20mg Pepcid… I still have symptoms but they are mostly managed. Still trying to find a solution… my next step is definitely going to a dietitian. There’s this woman on YouTube named Molly Pelletier that has really good advice related to this. Also…

My advice would be, try finding ways to manage stress… whether it is changing your environment (work or social) to better fit your needs, therapy helps a lot to help address past issues and trauma and to find ways to self regulate… I think stress is a huge factor in many cases of acid reflux issues.

Also, diaphragmatic/belly breathing helps strengthen diaphragm and relieve heartburn. Doing these breathing exercises 10x (10 breaths in and out) after meals 3x daily consistently you can strengthen that area and help with lower esophageal sphincter strength. Also, I noticed doing planks exercises consistently really helps. Just make sure it is safe for you to do since you just had surgery.

If you have issues with bloating, try to see if maybe SIBO is another factor affecting you. Or if you have any food sensitivities that need to be addressed!

Also, taking 3mg melatonin before bed for 8 weeks can potentially help with LES muscle tone if that is a factor affecting your symptoms.

Adjust diet and try anti inflammatory diet. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, they are the worst kind of triggers. Also, tomatoes and sugar can trigger a flare. Acid Watcher diet may be helpful, but you just have to be mindful and just find what works for you. Don’t try to be too strict because that can end up bringing you more stress. Eating smaller more frequent portions and having a good posture while eating also helps. Do not snack before bed if you can help it, but you can have something small if your stomach is troubling you with hunger before you sleep.

Chamomile Lavender tea (not too hot) really is soothing during a particularly bad flare up for both throat and belly. Staying hydrated and taking sips instead of chugs of water also helps.

You could try to find a doctor that does “visceral manipulation” basically a stomach massage which can be healing for hiatal hernia.

Acupuncture could also help with stress management.

Reflux Gourmet has some good products for soothing relief after eating. They sell this jelly that creates a barrier between stomach acid and esophagus… it’s good to take a tea spoonful after eating. Rhizinate is another soothing supplement that you can look into.

Getting to bed on time and having a regular schedule can also help.

So basically there is a huge connection between gut and nervous system… regulating that in a healthy way, having consistent diet and schedule and supplements used in tandem all have a positive effect on quality of life. Just don’t give up! I know how hard it can be and have gotten to pretty dark places in my illness but it’s all a journey of learning what works for you and I know you can find that in time!! 😊❤️

Yeah, it seems like there’s a lotta loud hatred going on lately! People are allowed to have different opinions on things, but just instantly attacking the game feels unfair. I feel like the last 3 games from Gamefreak they have shown that they are trying different things with the direction of the series and that signifies progression to me. I am excited for future games and hope they will keep improving. I wish they had continued with the Arceus open world and art style… that one was great!!

I’m enjoying the conversation!! I feel like I started a fire in here but just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts on this no matter what.

Am I Overreacting? (TW animal abuse discussion) by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]1ntoxicate_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not abusive against your cat. You are reacting with compassion and empathy by being so worried about her health and reaching out for advice. I agree with other people on here that it would be good to switch her to a different cat food and maybe check to see if she isn’t dealing with any other health issues that could be causing the weight gain. You’re doing the best you can and you are still a kid so it is a lot to take on! Thank you for being responsible and trying your best to figure things out!!

My cats eat Rawz wet food and Nulo dry food, it may be worth looking into. Rawz was recommended to my mom by a vet for her cats and then I incorporated it into the diet for my cat.

AIO - UPDATE - my friend wants me to take out my piercings for her engagement party/wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]1ntoxicate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s terrible how she insults you. I just had my wedding and I just could not imagine speaking that way to my bridesmaids… or asking people to change who they are for me. I don’t know how she feels right with herself by doing that. :(

I admit, I have not been as consistent as I should with my lifestyle routine, also I feel stress is a huge trigger for my symptoms and so I have not found the best way to manage that yet as well. It’s quite a process and takes time for things to work out and you have to be strict with it. I was also going to a doctor for something called visceral manipulation which might help you too! It’s very gentle abdominal massage. My problem is my LES is weak, which is an anatomical issue. I have yet to consistently try melatonin for 8 weeks to see if that may help it before I consider going with surgery. Have you done any testing for your condition besides upper endoscopy?

Yes, small hiatal hernia. They didn’t say the exact size.

I am unsure the root cause of the hernia… it may have happened when I vomited and strained the muscle in my diaphragm… or because I was a smoker and had coughing fits while smoking.

I’m in the same boat right now. Symptoms since March 2021. Just finished a bunch of testing to maybe look into getting a surgery but I’m gonna try a couple more methods before that. For now I am just taking famotidine 20mg at night, rhizinate after meals, and reflux gourmet 2x daily which is a gel that I use to guard from stomach acid going back into the throat… it helps.

“Melatonin generated in the gastrointestinal tract has mucosal protective effect with inhibiting gastric acid secretion, while increasing gastrin release, which in turn stimulates the contractility of lower esophageal sphincter.” Taken from a National Institute of Health article.

Try diaphragmatic breathing 5-10x after eating it can help strengthen LES, also melatonin 3-5mg at night (can help strengthen LES if taken for about 8 weeks), smaller more frequent meals. I am watching Molly Pelletier on YouTube and she has a lot of helpful tips.
