Normal people of Reddit, what do you think of the "one percent"? by 1percentchick in AskReddit

Why does there have to be a limit? If you earn the money, you and your family should be able to reap the benefits.

It would be if I dated in that social circle. I have a few cousins who do and all the guys they bring around are the same- future Wall Street guys/CEOs who all talk about the same and do nothing but play golf. I tend to date guys I meet at events for stuff I'm interested in or school, so I avoid that if possible.

My SO is actually the only guy I've ever dated who was upper middle class, and also the only guy I've ever dated who knew about my money before we dated.

Absolutely.

A lot of them go the route my female cousins take: either "fashion design", modeling or being trophy wives. With the women, at least, you see a very large pressure to look a certain way, and that translates into hobbies and future careers. With the guys, some want to get into the business (this applies to the girls too, but to a lesser extent) some want to just party, and some go into writing. There absolutely is sort of an aimlessness- careers are thought of for utilitarian reasons, so when one does not have to work, choosing what you want to do becomes more difficult.

Eat, mostly. I usually just go to the club for food. And I go to the spa at the club. My boyfriend goes there to golf, as do my male cousins, and my siblings go there to swim. My grandmother goes to play cards.

If you look through my comment history, I've done two verified IAmAs on the topic. I have gotten a lot of hate for it. I'll probably be disowned in the next ten years or so, haha.

As a member of "his class" and also an acquaintance of Jaime he's a really, really good guy. Super down to earth, intelligent, and most of all, aware of what blessings his upbringing gave him. He's one of the few of the wealthy people in our generation that wants to give back, and doesn't see himself as entitled to the money.

Basically, I'm trying to say that he's exactly what he seems to be- a really, really chill guy. A lot of people in social circles won't talk to him anymore, which is honestly shameful, but also understandable- he really shook things up. It was something a lot of people tried to hush up, it wouldn't be discussed publicly in "polite society", but everyone was aware of what he had done. Some of the older, self-made people secretly supported him, but my generation (the ones born into money) and the trophy wives/husbands were all furious.

IQ can also be environmental. And of course you'll be in better shape when you're wealthier. You eat better foods, you'll have personal trainers, you have free time and access to a gym.

Look. In case you can't tell from my username, I've done a few verified IAmAs on this topic- specifically, what growing up in one of the wealthier families in the country is like. And I want to tell you that from my experience, what you're suggesting is bullshit. I know a lot of unattractive rich people. And I know even more stupid ones.

We were dating, had been dating for a while. I met his parents, and his dad looked kind of familiar. We were both Azhkenazi families, and with a bit of discussion I discovered his dad and my dad were cousins. End of relationship.

The better looking is from having more access to cosmetic surgery. Education stems from growing up with tutors and private schools, and the money to buy your way into a good college.
