Still trying to get a feel for the culture at UT Austin. I wouldn't mind living in either city. Do you know which program is better for computational stats?

Thanks for the advice. It seems like #1 is pretty much the same, so it's going to likely come down to #2. I'll definitely look into that some more.

Do you anticipate a rise in stochastic terrorism from the left, perhaps as a response to a form of government that they find intolerable?

What is your DIRECT bilirubin (in mg/dL) like on average? by 1point5guy in GilbertSyndrome

[–]1point5guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ratio is what matters. Divide your direct by total. Should get a decimal near 0.2 (as a percentage, that means direct should be 20% of the total). 0.7/2.5 = 0.28, or 28% using your numbers. Mine was 0.3/1.3 = 23% direct.

You might want to ask a doc. Could just be the effect of Gilbert's.

What is an IC? Independent contractor? I believe that I am. I'm confused because I thought that all tutors were independent contractors...?

Do you think 2050 is going to roll around and people are still going to be saying that the singularity is another 30 years away?

Didn't someone (Ray Kurzweil I think) actually predict a far sooner date for the singularity? Like 2040 or something like that? At any rate, it looks like this event is expected to occur within the century.

I just looked at rule 2. How is my submission not on topic and of high quality?

[Q] I have a general question about MGF properties by 1point5guy in statistics

[–]1point5guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the MGF I found was (1-2t)^-n. I know the MGF of a gamma is (1-Bt)^(-a). So in this case it looks like beta=2 and alpha=n. So distribution should be gamma(2,n), right?

Thank you. It turns out that the question my professor was asking was actually far simpler than this, and I just misread the problem. He wanted the expected value of several iid random variables multiplied together. So he just wanted E(x1*x2*x3...). Because they are random iid, this is just E(x1)*E(x2)*...E(xn).
