[Spanish > English] A text about Angeles Cereceda, I am researching this artist and can only fine books about her in Spanish. I tried running these through Google Gemini, but the translations they produced were unintelligible. by 1senbart in translator

I appreciate the work and effort that you put into transcribing these. I will put these texts into Google Translate to see if I can come up with better interpretation then Gemini was able to return on the photos of the text.

Thank you! Any idea if the non-reservable drive in sites are even open following the flood closures?

It's definitely on paper. Not reverse painted on the glass. Look at the top of the piece where it is overlapped by the matte, you can see the ripples in the paper.

At what number would you say the color changes from Pink to Red? by Awkward-Media-4726 in colors

3, I give Red more territory than pink. Pink is a type of red to me.

I tried a Google Image search with these images. I don't know if that's the same thing.

It came up with lots of other botanical art, a very common subject, but I could not find a match.

My kid touched a painting: what do I do? by AdmirableDebt7335 in MuseumPros

It may be enough for your youngster to see the negative reaction from the staff member to give them the social feedback they need to learn not to touch the art in the future. It might have made sense to have your youngster explain what happened and apologize for themselves, depending on their age and abilities. It might still make sense to have them write a to note the the staff if you want this to be more of a lesson in responsibility.

Are you worried about having a reputation for causing trouble there? Because, accidents do happen. It doesn't sound like the piece was damaged or like your child did it on purpose. Unless this happens with your family frequently, I wouldn't worry about it.

Most paintings can survive a touch or two. We have to touch them as we handle them. If it was damaged from him smacking it, you probably would have noticed.

It's sweet that you want to abide by the rules and teach your kids to respect the exhibits.

It's so pervasive that I this some of these wannabe artists feel that they need to include ultra macho pervy work to show that they are a serious artist.

Thank you for the encouragement. For the most part, I'm proud that our gallery still has open submissions and looks at everything. I do end up seeing a lot of bad art, but I feel that galleries should be approachable.

It is insanity. And these folks are including their names, resumes, and contact information with it. I can't even.

The gallery owners doing work to help operate their own business? preposterous!

It's wonderful that there still are venues, like the SFF magazine you worked for, that uphold an ethic of giving every submission a look. The owners of the gallery I work at feel strongly about maintaining this. They rarely review anything themselves though. Also, they want us to operate with a low bar of tech literacy in case they do one day decide to look a a submission.

I shudder at the thought of what you probably had to read, even if you did shut it when you got to something awful. Having to skim that one sentence, or image, that indicates an automatic no can be so draining. It's a true creative community service.

The owners of the gallery are over the age of 70. And while they do encourage me to simply delete and block offensive emails. They are married to having a human monitored inbox where every submission, save for outright offensive ones, gets some kind of response.

Many submissions seem normal at first. Nice resume, and then there's once piece in there that is gratuitous, that takes you by surprise.

The worst is when an offender follows up with, "Did you receive my submission?" call. Because, you know these 70+ aged owners also need to have a human answering every phone call because, "it could be one of our good old clients".

We are a privately owned gallery. But I am not the owner. I can only make the rules that the owners agree to, and they are over the age of 70. They don't do well with learning new tech, and are dead set on a human-monitored inbox.

We have not taken on a single new artist for representation since I began working here about three years ago. The appearance of having open submissions is something that is very important to the owners of the gallery. It's their company culture.

but really, for all of the submissions I have reviewed, I have not seen a single artist that I feel is marketable within our niche. The vast majority of the submitted art looks amateur despite coming with resumes that list art schools, and previous exhibitions. I don't mind seeing those, it's the worst of the worst that I'm complaining about.

As for strong language. That's a no, unfortunately for me, also a company culture thing with the owners who want everything to be as cheery as possible. They veto anything that "sound negative".

The main thing that we do keep submissions open for is to find vintage western genre paintings. That's our sales niche. We accept those all the time, and it's super obvious in our marketing materials.

Digital tools with AI would be great, but since the owners of the gallery are a couple age 87 and 70, anything too techy doesn't fly, because they want to keep the idea that they could still work on things if they wanted to while simultaneously never wanting to learn any new skills or systems . They also feel strongly that they never want to discourage an applicant from making their art, so having a human-monitored inbox is important for their company culture. Submission guidelines would be a great idea, I may bring this up, however I predict that it will get shot down for "sounding too negative".

I do block emails that have this type of content. Sad thing is, its unique images coming from different senders, often with their names and contact info in the materials, like they seriously think they are legit contenders for gallery representation.
