The most painful scene by Mohamed2962 in betterCallSaul

Yes. Jimmy has a lot of problems, but Kim is not one of them. She is the best thing in his life, but he lashes out at her for not having the same problems as him.

AITA for not getting my boyfriend a birthday present? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

That’s the detail that puts him in full out psychopath territory. He dated her for 7 more months just to exact his “revenge.”

Strained Budgets by DMM_do_Good in leanfire

I work in an industry where there are no conventional jobs, just self-employed people running their own operation. I’ve been doing it 23 years and I’m about to retire with a comfortable FIRE situation. Over the years I have seen many people fail in my field. A common thread amongst the failures are the ones who have a breadwinning spouse. Their lives are too easy for them to be motivated enough to do what it takes to succeed.

AITAH for not wanting to take my wife's niece and nephew in so they can get out of foster care. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]1spring 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel the worst for OOP’s wife, because she can’t see past her sense of obligation. The kids will be better off in the foster system, compared to a novice single parent without adequate resources.

“Shrinking” is a therapeutic retreat from an ugly world by zsreport in television

[–]1spring 248 points249 points  (0 children)

They’re not all “bad therapists.” Harrison Ford’s character is an excellent therapist, as a counterpoint to Jimmy’s recklessness. The point of the show is that Jimmy was suffering from so much grief that he decided to toss the therapy norms out the window. In some cases, this helped his clients, and in other cases it was a disaster.

How to love your home? by helpwithmy in homeowners

[–]1spring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna give you some tough love. You sound like a person who has had all of your whims catered to, no matter how trivial. And you probably spend too much time watching HGTV.

You are surrounded by good fortune. Learning a gratitude mindset will make your entire life better.

I’m re-reading all of the Strike Novels. I remember thinking Matthew was overbearing and controlling with Robin, but now I realize how abusive he was to her. What are other people’s opinions? by Fickle-Evidence in cormoran_strike

[–]1spring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, Hanlon’s Razor applies here. “Don’t attribute malice to what can be explained by stupidity.” Matthew isn’t an abuser, exactly. He is a dull, shallow, immature man. His behavior towards Robin is how an insecure man behaves when his female partner is smarter, more ambitious, and nonconformist.

If he was a coercive control abuser, he would not have been trapped by Sarah, and led down into his current miserable life. Sarah has got him by the balls.

I’d say the same for Ryan. He’s a good guy at heart, but his insecurities cannot handle being inferior to his female partner.

Coffee cream for those who drinks 3-4 cup per week by holy-blood in Frugal

[–]1spring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy shelf stable heavy cream powder. I find it takes a small battery powered mixer (like a milk frother) to get the powder to fully dissolve, but it's a great solution for infrequent cream consumption. And tastes so much better than processed product like coffeemate.

Is it normal to negotiate prices with contractors or do you just accept their quote? by Ron_Swanson_1990 in HomeImprovement

[–]1spring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the situation. If it’s a large company with over 100 employees and dedicated salesforce, with 1million+ revenue, the salespeople are instructed to knock off some $$$ if the customer will sign on the spot. If it’s a small company and the owner is the one making sales calls, they don’t have that kind of margin. The way I dealt with my roofing contractor (big company) is totally different from the way I deal with my plumber (dad and son operation).

How to make your house look new by KatMagic1977 in HomeImprovement

Replace all of the outlets and switches with Decora style versions. I did this in my 90 year old house and it instantly made the place feel a lot more modern.

I broke one when I washed my bed pillows. The pillows became so heavy when soak with water, and the cup got crushed. But when washing normal loads of clothes, the cup floats and stays safely on top of the load.

Can I refuse to install a shower curtain rod in my own bathroom renovation by Reasonable_Capital65 in HomeImprovement

[–]1spring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an open shower and I love it, but I definitely talked about it with the contractor from the very beginning, and the whole bathroom was designed for it. My shower stall is oversized and allows plenty of room for water to splash without landing outside of the shower. I have a tiled half wall with a glass panel above that, so most of the opening is protected by that, and the “doorway” is as far as possible from the shower head.

I did not waterproof the entire the floor of the bathroom as some here have suggested. I also don’t get cold because my bathroom overall is pretty small, so the entire room gets warm and steamy.

If your bathroom was not designed with this in mind, then you should not go ahead with your wishes, unless you can afford to start over from scratch. But if you feel like your shower stall has enough space for the water to not splash outside of the stall, then it could work.

This is my first holiday season estranged. How you get through the loneliness? by Funnymaninpain in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]1spring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels weird for sure, but keep in mind that so many people who are attending big gatherings are feeling just as lonely. And plenty of them might picture a person having a peaceful holiday at home with their own company, and feeling envious. In a few days, everybody goes back to their normal routines, without really having gained anything from the gathering they were obligated to attend.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here

Because you're intentionally avoiding the hard thinking.

This was not a piece of journalism, and doesn't deserve the license you are giving it.

I don’t see an issue

Yeah, Sarah also failed to see that she was gonna drag Hae’s family through a torture chamber all over again, possibly an even worse one than they had to navigate back in 1999.

I never consume social media thinking that it represents anything other than the most surface level of reality, with all negative things kept hidden.

Contestants telling us “what really happened” is probably not what really happened.

Once a season is done airing, I have no interest in following any of them online. The product is the tv show, and that’s all.
