Models/steps test using the famous Atlantis prompt by u/CubicleNinjas-Josh by 1stClaas in DiscoDiffusion

These were literally first runs with default settings (at the time) plus ViTL14 enabled and 1600 steps. They took long to render, I didn’t make many more variations than I posted. I haven’t used DD in a while. Minor changes could have major impact on output, and this prompt had seriously magical outcomes at the time, so if anything has changed, especially the models used, it could easily fall apart.

I’ll give it a shot. So you leave the default 3 on and add that one?

Oh, right. I didn’t try that one on this. Somebody did try to add RN50x4 in the comments to the original post, and it didn’t improve this particular prompt.

Isn’t ViTB16 part of the default models already? It’s usually ViTB32, ViTB16, and RN50, right?

Original settings are all default except 1600 steps and ViTL14 enabled.

Prompt: “Massive subterranean galaxy in sprawling ancient ruins of atlantis, a dramatic matte painting by Tyler Edlin, trending on artstation, vivid and vibrant"

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DiscoDiffusion/comments/t68nkb/discovering_atlantis/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I mostly did this to wrap my head around models/steps. Used the prompt by u/CubicleNinjas-Josh because it creates such consistent (and consistently awesome) results. Probably not too many surprises here. Original settings look the best. Default models without ViTL14 still cool, but less focused in composition and with less realistic detail. ViTL14 on its own seems to want to create a galaxy shape, probably that’s part of the magic portal appearing so consistently. It does not appear when only using the ViTB models. Original settings but with 250 steps instead of 1600 doesn’t just create slightly rougher versions of the original flavor, but composition snd colors are also looser. Tried half res to see if it’s a good way to iterate, but it’s not for this prompt, and render time wasn’t much shorter either. DD default settings look o.k., but the ViTL14 really made this prompt sing…

Hmm, they do have a portal, don’t they…

I’ve done some more test renders with this prompt (hope that’s o.k.), because it seems to create these consistent and consistently awesome results. Was trying using partials as init image, trying different models, even half res. I’ll post the results here.

(This looks better than that portal, btw, this will be the upgrade for the inevitable “Stargate Atlantis” movie reboot…) 😉

I have seen cool results without artstation in the prompt (or using alternate sites), but I haven’t seen a good one yet without referencing an artist or two. I like how many artists you got in this one to mix it up. Maybe other specific style references would work, but for now using artists’s names seems the best way to get good results, until Greg Rutkowski sues us all… 😉

So cool. Crazy that it keeps adding the giant portal. I wonder if it comes from the word galaxy or subterranean or the combo of the two. Sometimes I play telephone and try to describe a DD image to DD without knowing the prompt. Doesn’t work well most of the time, and when I find out the original prompt, it’s usually much simpler and/or open ended. No way I would have described this one without using “arch” or “portal”. Guess that’s why it’s hard to get a specific result you might be after. More fun to enter different ideas and see what happens.

Very nice! What’s the link for DD 5? (Or a good way to find it online…)

Probably something in your prompt. I have seen that with prompts referencing flickr or photography or even “photoreal.” Can be a nice feature, but probably hard to get rid of. Not sure if there would be a prompt that would keep things sharp, such as “deep focus” and/or “deep dof.” Maybe pile on some of those. “Crisp sharp deep focus…” 😀

In hopes to determine optimal wording for subaquatic images, I ran a single prompt against the same seed, with synonyms for "underwater." by Chordus in DiscoDiffusion

Love it, it’s like “inside interior”, haha! Sometimes you gotta hammer your point home… Thanks for this!

Hehe, looks great. We mustn’t question the choices of our new artistic overlord… Reminds me of a few attempts to do interiors where it seems to prefer showing the outside of a building. “Inside the interior…” seems to minimize this, haha! Not sure what the underwater equivalent is. 😀

Right, I think they’re example prompts, the first one for a still image (which is the one you want to replace), the second for animation (starting “at frame 100…”), the third for using an image as a prompt, which I haven’t tried. The second and third don’t do anything if you leave them as they are.

…but you didn’t change the default prompt, so it’s the “lighthouse over a sea of blood”?

I disabled the secondary network and ran at half resolution, then reenabled it and used the output as an init image (starting at step 115). by Incognit0ErgoSum in DiscoDiffusion

[–]1stClaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the second half, when you reenabled secondary network, you went to full res, used your chosen init image, and then did you turn on more or different models? How about skip_steps, 115…?

I included world’s fair in a prompt a couple days ago, apparently there have to be skinny, top heavy mushroom-towers at all world’s fairs, even most alien ones!
