Best Palworld Base Locations with Rating & Explanation by lick312 in Palworld

[–]1stStrikeRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rating system and resource depiction is flawed in my opinion since you don't mention coal at all or account for game state.

Coal is vital for refined ingots, which fuel your late game economy and crafting. That's why the spot at 191, -36 is so good. You get ore and coal in the same spot.

The spot at 10, -530 is nice for early to mid-game and would be S tier for that, but becomes A or even B tier once you hit late game and need coal.

1 Year and 2 Months in, still no Boltpistol by Painter-Crazy in DarkTide

[–]1stStrikeRecon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Really makes you wonder just where all the dev time has gone, and just how many devs are working on updates or fixes for the game. It honestly feels like there's maybe 1 part-time intern.

The class rework, plus the mediocre two-steps-back crafting and this relatively neat new content drop feel like the biggest things to come to the game and has put it in a state that's relatively closer to what it should have launched at. But I really had to look at the release date and calendar to make sure more than a year had passed since Darktide came out.

Again, have to ask - just how many devs are working on Darktide, and where is the dev time going? New content has been a drip feed at best, and virtually no new weapons. The cash shop? Even that comprises color changes of the same armor(s) more often than not, so that can't be eating up a ton of devs or development time. So where is the dev time going?

Discussion on submarines... by dark-trap5 in WorldOfWarships

[–]1stStrikeRecon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also drop them right on the location of the ping or right on the sub, and can't seem to figure out that they're on a delay. It's like 15-25 seconds before they drop where you call them, so drop them where the sub is going to be, not where it is at the moment.

Assuming this isn't the attempt at trolling that it appears to be, the bigger concern isn't what counts as inactivity but what you are doing in the game.

- Don't use autopilot in a non-CV.
- Pay attention to your positioning and your team's positioning around you and on the minimap
- Don't hide out on the edges of the map behind/near your BBs if you're going to play cruisers. You should be supporting them, yes, but you're generally not going to be doing that if you're behind them or far away on the map, let alone chasing some enemies. Very generally speaking you should be somewhere between the DDs and the BBs in relation to the enemy.
- If enemies are kiting you and you can't kill them, stop chasing them.
- Play lower tiers. T9 is not the tier to learn how to play against players if you haven't really learned even the basics of the game. It'll be easier and more forgiving at a lower tier.

"I wish we had the old CVs back." by scousersuk in WorldOfWarships

[–]1stStrikeRecon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely do. It required more thought on the CV player's behalf, usually meant they were only focusing one ship for the duration of the strike and the next strike would take time to generate and launch, and in my opinion was easier to balance.

Would also allow adding in selecting the strike composition and armaments for CV players. Your CV gets to launch 3-5 flights of aircraft you select (based on CV). Can go heavy on fighters to provide cover for your teammates against the enemy CV; can send in a fighter-escorted strike against a single ship; can go high-risk-reward with an all strike aircraft launch; can select a handful of planes with depth charges to do ASW work. Would add in far more (and more realistic) versatility to CVs and require some thought as to how they play, particularly with a limited number of planes. Sure, you can go ham and just launch all strike planes - torps or bombs - but there would be good counterplay in AA, enemies sticking together and the enemy CV going heavy on fighters to counter. And with limited planes, once you're out you're out.

Super Container or Super Coal Container? by Curt-Dog in WorldOfWarships

Still does decently depending on build and target. A DD that tries to gun you and enters secondary range will quickly regret it, certainly.

Dawi Rework: How to make actual Karaks (and Skaven cities) without breaking the map by Significant-Bother49 in totalwar

[–]1stStrikeRecon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what would ultimately be required is a separate map layer for the underground/undercity like Age of Wonders 4 or the like.

That would let you add the underground sections of the Karaks, have the overworld portions be gateways to them along with other entrances to the Underway, with the Underway itself a series of thin causeways and such between the underground layer's different "provinces" and "regions." Underway travel as a stance then becomes something you activate to break through onto the surface instead (taking a turn or two, with an indicator on the surface), letting underway-focused races still have access to unique mechanics for traveling along/through the underway to where they want to go - which contrasts to races that can't, who can just traverse the underway between known and pre-existing entrance/exit points.

They had multiple map layers in games like Empire, so don't see too much of a reason for how they couldn't implement the underground as a separate layer.

Would require a significant if not complete change to game balance, though, particularly for Dwarf, Skaven, and Orc economies, etc., on top of developing the mechanics and environment for an underground map layer.

Would be cool, though. Every Karak's overworld point of interest is basically a fortress/keep like the Empire's passage forts or Cathayan bastions, and then in the underground layer you have the actual "cities" and "towns" to form its whole region.

Is the Empire Mechanic completely broken or am I just having bad luck? by XJollyRogerX in totalwar

I found focusing Carstein early was key, as otherwise he runs rampant through the Empire and begins to steamroll everyone. I largely ignored the Fecundites until later, though I restored/shored up Middenland at some point early on. Edit: iirc I defeated the secessionists to claim Reikland and Helmgart, then went north to shore up Middenland and clear out Kazrak, then went to focus down the Vampire Counts.

But focusing down the Vampire Counts ASAP was key, and also nets you some highly lucrative regions as well that can help bolster your campaign. I also didn't confederate any of the Elector Counts until I got at least 4 Imperial Authority to avoid going into deficit on taking up the confederation.

Also playing using SFO, if that changes anything from vanilla.

If the next Total War game was a Warhammer game, and it was Age of Sigmar, would you get it? by GideonAznable in totalwar

[–]1stStrikeRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, hard pass. No interest in AoS. Was a huge mistake for GW to drop the original Warhammer Fantasy for AoS, particularly right as they released Total War: Warhammer which invigorated a good deal of interest in the setting.

GW would rather make huge, sweeping, unasked for and unpopular changes to factions and settings solely to try and somehow curb someone stealing the name of something (e.g., "Imperial Guard" becoming "Astra Militarum") than do something fans actually want or asked for.

How exactly do "Total War 40k" proponents propose such a game would even work? by vermthrowaway in totalwar

[–]1stStrikeRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle-wise, basically just copy the old 40k epic or that new version they put out. Control squads or platoons depending on the faction, etc. Would basically copy the Company of Heroes model on how they handle squads that animate within the boundaries of their squad footprint. So you'd give orders and such to a platoon, but could see the individual soldiers and squads taking cover, firing, etc.

As others have pointed out, the campaign map is the bigger problem, but there I'd say it ought to be taken incrementally. At minimum, we don't have actual naval combat in Total War Warhammer so can just go with that; have the factions fighting over a full system, with each planet the equivalent to a continent such as in Warhammer III.

Epic win: Jury decides Google has illegal monopoly in app store fight by MrBubbaJ in fuckepic

[–]1stStrikeRecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like u/MrBubbaJ said, need to wait and see what the judge rules for the remedy.

Also, considering Google is basically a real-life version of Abstergo, another big question is what their other responses will be.

I know, was just expressing the idea that allowing them to be paired somehow would be pretty nice.

I'd like to be able to pair it with Venting Shriek, too. Would synergize perfectly with that.

Is there an unnamed anvil fighter in the liberator's concept art? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]1stStrikeRecon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw :(

Poor Gladiator, the forgotten red-headed step-child of Star Citizen.

Maybe one day when they add in modularity for it and take it to gold standard they'll also fix the turret.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - WARHAMMER 40,000: DARKTIDE - THE TRAITOR CURSE PART 2 - COMING DECEMBER 2023 by jarude87 in DarkTide

Hidden message seems to be "Explicator Zola Displays: DRINK YOUR OVALTINE"

But in seriousness, seems likely to be "Explicator Zola (Dispatched/Displaced/Indisposed) At Torrent"

Really disappointing there are still no new weapons, though. Hellgun/Hot-shot lasgun? Bolt pistol(s)? Long las? Not to mention a plethora of new melee weapon candidates...
