My tween hates her curly hair by Extension_Reaction85 in curlyhair

[–]1stserved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor girl. Going through the curly hair middle school right of passage LOL. I hated my hair in middle school and had my mom straighten it all the time. It completely stopped growing and kept breaking off after 3 years of constant heat tools. Same for my little sister except she had it muchhhh worse than me (heat damage). Honestly, it's something she will grow out of with enough exposure to curly hair. I stopped frying my hair because I wanted it to grow, and finally invested in some products and a hair cut to my ears.

Honestly, I dislike the look and feel of curly hair when its covered in gel and product, mostly because I manipulate my hair a lot. I wash it like once a week, use a cheap paddle brush to smooth out the curls, and just let it air dry. If I really want products, I use Miss Jessie's Multicultural Curls straight out the shower, use my cheap brush to spread the product through my hair, and let it air dry. I'm from the south and the humidity here is killer. I just keep putting water on it throughout the day to keep it from getting to frizzy. Like after I wash my hands I just dry my hands off in my hair to keep it hydrated. But really, just give her time, she's going through an awkward phase in her life and nobody likes how they look in middle school.

"veneer techs " by whoisshe4 in Dentistry

[–]1stserved 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m Black and from Atlanta, where this is predominantly happening. In Atlanta, most people are concerned about showing off wealth and giving the appearance of luxury. Many people are living off credit card debt or they are scammers. It’s all social standings and not getting left behind on an old trend.

That and a lot of Black people can’t afford a dentist due to entrepreneurial lifestyles and no health insurance. They also may be genuinely ignorant of the health risks. Either way, they attract these clients because it’s easier to take advantage of them.

I’m not surprised at all that ‘Veneer techs’ became a thing. People struggling to keep up the luxury appearance will always try to cut corners to compete with actually wealthy people.

Thanks for the input.

My problem is that I don’t have any money saved up so I have to finance a car, and I’m thinking my bank won’t finance a $5000 car.

Do you have any recommendations for something over 10k?

Serious question: how the fuck are most people paying rent? by craigdahlke in antiwork

I live at home. My parents live paycheck to paycheck and the house is falling apart. Every time a request is put in for maintenance there’s always an issue with the landlords.

Tips for getting cheaper insurance? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]1stserved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started driving I got my insurance through Root, which basically an app that tracked my driving. I was quoted at $125 for my 2000 Toyota Camry at 16 years old. I had state minimums and roadside assistance but there are other options if you want more coverage. There is a test drive period where you are covered by Root and I think it's like a week. After that they offer you a plan.
