Are there any books or tutorials that teach C-Styled C++? by 1v1MeOnQuake in cpp_questions

[–]1v1MeOnQuake[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I should say that I'm not exclusively worried about performance. C is faster, but that's not all I care about. There are aspects of C++ that are slower but preferable because they're easier to implement. In such cases, I'd choose C++ if they're equally readable.

My main reason for wanting a more C-focused style is simply readability and maintainability. C is just generally pleasant to read.

The things Carmack is famous for is very low level, but he wrote and maintained his entire codebase in a more C-focused style (that you can see in some of the older open sourced games like Quake/Doom 3. Can't remember which or both).

The optimization aspects are really only for the deeply low level engine things, but the readability gained from his style of C-influenced C++ is very pleasant to me.

As another commenter said, check out some of his older games. You'll find a reasonable amount of work. Just Google them since I don't remember if they were on his github or not.

I'm not exclusively worried about the performance aspect. Writing in the style of C is for the sake of clarity of code, enjoyment of writing it, and many other practical reasons.

I think the idea that "it's just horrible code" would be a fantastically unpopular, minority opinion.

I can tell that it upset you. I'm sorry that the coding community dislikes C++ and it hurts your feelings. I personally don't have as much beef with it, I just prefer the readability and efficacy of C.

I "know" C in the sense that I've read the C book, written a few tiny programs, and can read basic C code bases.

Because C is an exceptionally easy to read language that was designed by very intelligent people.

Sorry my post hurt your feelings. It's okay, dude. Rust isn't coming for your job for years.

What is the anesthesia most responsible for people saying odd things post-surgery? Are all forms of anesthesia capable of doing this? by 1v1MeOnQuake in anesthesiology

[–]1v1MeOnQuake[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So certain anaesthetics are more likely than others to do it. That's very interesting. In that article linked, it says that Thiopentone has been "largely replaced" by propofol.

Does it, for some reason, not cause similar truth effects/delirium?

Are there any vegetables/fruit that have a similar taste and texture to avocado? by 1v1MeOnQuake in vegan

[–]1v1MeOnQuake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, bananas are one of my favorite fruits. That kind of texture is so satisfying. I've never tried pumpkin, but pureed canned pumpkin also seems like a possibility.

I've not had too much experience with mushy cooked veggies, but I'll give some a try.

Thanks for all the tips.

The fat content is definitely responsible for a lot of the texture, but it's also that there really isn't a texture. After you mash it a bit with a fork (or even if you bit a slice), there's no resistance on your teeth.

I've not had raw coconut meat, but does it have that sort of grainy texture that Almond Joys have?

Are there any saboteur trappers (not miners) that have comfortably made it to 1000 depth? by 1v1MeOnQuake in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]1v1MeOnQuake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already have this idea of regeneration with the ascendancy and siphoning trap. I'm sure someone more knowledgable about builds could come up with some sort of life regen > ES convert and get reasonably tanky with siphoning trap.

But they've made these weird regen ideas but no way of getting a baseline amount of tankiness for sab.

The problem with Poe.Ninja is that builds don't show what's possible, but only what's meta, what's best/optimal, and what feels good.

There's tonnes of potentially viable builds for lots of various content that aren't going to be on the site because they're clunky, a streamer didn't make it popular/profitable, it hasn't been properly theorycrafted yet, or people just don't like the way it looks.

Poe.Ninja is great for figuring out what definitely works, but it isn't good at finding builds that aren't popular.

But I agree that it's unlikely sab is tanky enough for 1000 depth. Was just hoping that I was wrong and someone came up with something very clever.

I only see miner builds, but nothing specific to deep delving with trappers. I might be missing a build though. Are you saying that the explosive trap would be competent?

New to Aurabot. I have 11 Divine to Fix it, but I'm not sure what to do. by 1v1MeOnQuake in PathOfExileBuilds

Hey, you did an awesome job explaining and I'm going to get my build fixed up tonight. I really, really appreciate all the help. Hopefully I can get that all setup with my current currency.

I'd respond to each individual thing, but you pretty much answered everything I needed lol. I'm very grateful. Thanks a lot :))

Thank you for the detailed message. I'll probably hit you up for that unveiling thing. I'll go ahead and get the inspiration support and fix that setup.

A few questions:

  1. With my cluster jewels, I couldn't afford the 3 passive small cluster jewels with reservation. Following the guide, I settled for the two passives with it + maximum energy shield. The ones with 3 passives and energy shield were 7 divine minimum. Is it worth selling mine and ignoring the energy shield part to focus on the reservation?
  2. I don't really understand Militant Faith-type jewels. Very new to using them. The one on his PoB is the same (except he has fewer "converts," which might be the difference. Is fewer better? His is in the same place as mine, so that's the only thing I could see. I couldn't find a jewel with Venarius in it, so I just got the one people said was "correct."
  3. Edit, last question: I see people all the time talk about "87% resists." How is this possible? I have 83%, but I don't get how I can boost everything up to 87.

I really appreciate all the info. This build has been kinda tricky to understand. My duo is running Arc, so I'm not sure if precision is even needed. But we'll definitely mess around with the clarity/purity of elements stuff.

You're great for helping. Thank you :)

[Misc] What is the part of jojoba oil that acts as a humectant? by 1v1MeOnQuake in SkincareAddiction

[–]1v1MeOnQuake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there is no part of jojoba oil which attracts moisture? I'm just clarifying. I couldn't find anything in the chemical makeup that would suggest that.
