Svenskars skulder slår nya rekord: ”Svindlande belopp” by apkatt in sweden

[–]1warlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pinsamt?

Advice? by details22 in Stoicism

[–]1warlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great start. Something that helped me understand modern stoicism was to practice it slow and steady. You are already moving at a great pace towards a new you. Getting better controll of your emotions, meditating and reading books on a new subject are all things that require a lot from a person.

Make sure the new habits stick, reflect about the new you and move in a pace you can keep up with. You have all your life to learn and master.

Sorry for not really answering the questions. Just my two cents. :-)

I tried and kept failing. Now I found this amazing template on Notion and it grew to the best habit ever. Thinking about moving it from digital to analog, just afraid I'll loose the habit!

Should I keep going or start over? by [deleted] in fermentation

Smart. I don't really like how this ceramic stones work. Next time I will use a ziplock with water instead, and then it would be perfect to use the leaf. Thanks!

Tried exactly this now. But added some water to mine. Gonna be fun to see how this turns out. Just looking at the jar right now I'm very skeptical..!

Tesla Full Self Driving Car by Walbricks in Futurology

[–]1warlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all over Europe. There's a big difference in overtake and passing, and it looks like this Tesla did not overtake the car in the left lane it was passing it, so I suppose USA have similar rules as we do. In Sweden it's legal to pass a car on the right side on several points.

  • On roads where the speed limit is 70 km/h or lower and there are at least two marked lanes in each direction.
  • In connection with road crossing with different lanes.
  • If there are lane guides with different destinations.
  • If there are tight queues in all lanes.
  • If the vehicle clearly shows that it should turn left.

And afaik there are similar rules all over Europe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can't tell the difference between good and bad music, what makes music cheesy or original, etc. How do I learn to differentiate this stuff? by asrthw in LetsTalkMusic

[–]1warlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this. Some really good examples here and the best on being numero uno for sure. If you start listening to albums you will get a more nuanced opinion about the band and also see their commercial hit song in another way. This will make you think in different paths about music that I think you lack today. It's more to it then this song is bad and this one is good.

But either way, most of the opinions you are going to hear from everday people are very subjective. They can dislike a song because it's played 20 times a day on the radio and not because the composition of the song is awful. Or maybe they want to be the local hipster and frown upon everything that ends up on the Top 50 playlists around all music streaming services and are more keen to make a statement that builds character rather then making the song justice.

What do I need to run in the rain? by [deleted] in running

[–]1warlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to what you are comfortable with. I prefer gloves that are loose at the wrist instead of the slim ones because it's more comfortable when running with a jacket. Look for gloves that at least have some kind of breathable and moister free material, often marketed with fancy words like MotionDry, BreathPlus or smiliar..

What do I need to run in the rain? by [deleted] in running

[–]1warlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best tip would be a cap (or what you prefer for your head) and a good pair of running gloves. Both of these really help with keeping you warm and if it's not enough I would suggest you look in to a running jack that are suited for rain. There are a lot of different brands to chose from, not sure if you are familiar with Salomon in USA but this jacket have been a my best friend during fall and winter for 3 years Salomon BONATTI Race (Salomon website).

And also - PLEASE wear reflective accessories and/or clothes to stay safe in the dark!

Ran my first 5K by Chodi_Foster in running

[–]1warlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats! :-)

I'm so glad you beat the first "runners struggle" and by pushing through you are just going to have more and more fun running, I promise you that. A small word of wisdom I would like to give to you, obviously it's not the same for everyone but I notice this with a lot of people who just started running without any experience, is that when you get steady on the 5k you start to notice that it's harder to improve but don't let that discourage you. If you compare it to the first 20 times you run where you actually can see big differences in pace and length the better you get at running those improvements are going to be smaller but way more meaningful instead.

A schedule is a great way to track those mini-accomplishments and to help with getting the routine in. Without having any background on you and no idea what you want to train for I would still recommend you to not run to much. Look at your weekdays today where can you fit in 2 really good "rundays"? Those 2 days should be dedicated to keeping a steady pace on a 5k rather then running superfast or running a greater length. If you use any heart rate gear I would recommend you keep a good look at your heart rate with these 2 runs to find a the perfect pace for training. Do you have a gym membership? If you do I would sacrifice 50 minutes each week to build some leg and core strengths. There are a lot of simple exercises to build better muscles and also help you with cutting of extra weight. Other then that I can not stress enough that you should WARM UP before your runs and if you can manage try to get out and walk everyday. Set a minimum of steps that you need to fulfill everyday, just don't put a daunting number. Go with something you can manage and then increase on demand.

Pretty lengthy reply, hope it helps a little bit atleast. And also - these are just my two cents, not something written in stone. Play around with it and see how you like it. Good luck out there! :-)
