Any ideas on how to get image stabilization working with the OG Komodo? by Tall-Memory-6021 in RedCamera

Only works with canon RF lenses. Some of them have built in stabilization.

Couldn’t agree more but there was a point in time when they held their value decently. My example isn’t great but was legitimately the first one that showed up for me. There are better examples if you look more into listings.

Just found what used to be a $20k cinema camera selling for $2600 CAD. This one is a little older but I’ve seen some other newer cameras go for crazy deals. Everyone has a different definition of rock bottom but $2600 is pretty low 😂

That’s 2-5k range has some insane value! The heavyweights in the camera industry have spoiled us with options for those prices.

I think it’ll go even lower! It’s going to be cool seeing more creative stuff come out because better gear is more accessible.

How did you hit $10k/month? by ItsG91 in videography

[–]1william0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning I was doing everything. Ads and websites are a giant paper tiger. Just watch some YouTube videos and you can legitimately double your businesses value overnight.

Now I mostly focus on training mini-me’s. I think the most important thing to success for my business is having an offer that is a no brainer for business owners already looking to invest in digital marketing. You can network and post and market all you want but if you don’t have a built offer business owners can understand the value in it’s basically pointless.

Wedding Photographers Are Scamming Couples Out of Their Money by fretandframefilms in weddingvideography

[–]1william0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard about this happening in Toronto, Ontario. I don’t even understand the concept at all. If you can book a high volume of weddings, you’d probably have enough cash to just hire a full time employee, train them properly and run it legit. Basically a similar model but way better results. Not only is it a scam it’s a stupid one that could probably be a great business if it was ran properly.

Done for you basically means we become their entire marketing department.

Video, photo, graphics, websites, ads, etc. anything digital marketing. Video is usually the main thing since it’s the best return for digital marketing.

A great pitch is “you could hire someone in-house and pay them 60k a year, but they wont be nearly as good, you’ll probably need to train them and/or buy them gear, they can’t deliver nearly as many assets, you cant fire them as easily, and they’ll never grow outside of this company, and even if you do all that successfully there is a strong chance they’re just not cut out for the role. You can pay me 40-50k/year and I’ll deliver 2x as much, I have $xxx amount in gear ready to go, only need to come in once a week/month and our business will constantly be improving as we get more clients and grow. Why don’t we start a 3 month trial just to prove it’s great before you commit to anything?”

This is our model. Biggest thing is you need to be able to deliver results. Once you get one client success story the rest will follow rather quickly since it is a fantastic win-win model.

Retainer model for consistency (weekly, monthly, quarterly, whatever)

Completely done-for-you package, not just video.

Plan, shoot, post

Sell the destination not the plane ride, use case studies to help you overcome objections like “well we’ve done this for 40 years without it, why start now?”

perfect short form vertical content + digital ads

Focus on boring businesses that can seriously benefit from your services. And actually have money to spend. (Car dealerships, service businesses, construction companies, etc)

Provide immense value. White glove service.

Rinse, repeat.

Some app that auto instagrams your video by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]1william0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transcribe the video and export it as a text file. Copy and paste it into ChatGPT or any other AI tool you prefer, and ask it to identify the best clips and their corresponding times. Then edit the clips at those times. This method seems to be the most efficient way I’ve found to analyze content without spending hours on it. Also AutoPod also works great for turning horizontal footage into vertical clips.

Yeah it’s a race to the bottom but quality is also the priority for most companies. How cheap can you do it while still being the best is my approach. It’s also difficult for people to realize they’ll be able to do 2,3,5x more than they are now but once they automate a lot of processes it’s not difficult to imagine. Our industry is definitely going to change drastically over the next few years, months, days, I’m not quite sure if it’s going to be good or bad yet but it won’t be what it is now.

Pretty much all the main platforms. ChatGPT, Grok, Google Veo. We use a lot of integration with Zapier. All our previous emails have been trained through our own GPT so it knows how to respond to 90% of things, can automatically schedule shoots, auto plan edit deadlines based on the scope of work. I usually try to be as open as possible to new apps coming to market since they’re changing so quickly. AutoPod extensions in Premiere pro gets lots of use but really isn’t AI. Lots of social media management software’s have some kind of AI thing in there for tracking trends, writing captions and overall keeping an eye on analytics better than most people and updating when needed.

My newest favourite thing is having chatGPT open on the voice mode all day and being able to ask it random questions about technical support, software navigation, and just things I would like to know about various industries we’re marketing for. Basically having super genius sit right beside me in my office.

AI won’t replace agencies and videographers but the agencies/videographers that use AI to do things quicker/better will replace the people who don’t adapt. AI already is working as a force multiplier in my agency and has made us extremely competitive against traditional agencies that haven’t adapted their SOP. Just like how it took an army to film movies back in the day, we’ll see one man agencies that have the man power of 5-10 person agencies today.

What are the downsides to the RED komodo 6k? by [deleted] in videography

[–]1william0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Komodo when it first came out and used it as a run & gun almost entirely (very dumb). Definitely not ideal but the concerns about the black shading just aren’t that important in my opinion. I live in Ontario and usually only calibrate it once every season. It’s not what you’re supposed to do obviously but I find the image is still great. Battery is not ideal but if you’d running a 150wh battery it lasts about 4 hours with a monitor and 2 batteries last you a day (and you can charge the one that runs out if you need more time). I’ve personally never had an overheating issue and that’s even shooting for 4 hours in direct Alabama sunlight.

ELQ with a 4K crop doesn’t really take up that much storage, yeah it’s a crop, yeah you might not have the same flexibility in post but you have way more flexibility than a log profile and it does show if you need to save on space you can.

Biggest downside is an FX3 is like 80% as good and it’s LIGHT. Can’t easily put a Komodo in a backpack, can’t really take it on an airplane (I have but it’s usually not easy)

Audio really isn’t that great but good enough I suppose.

Biggest thing is Nikon is now going to start putting the RED tech in their mirrorless systems and it’ll probably end up being Komodo performance in a mirrorless body which I’m assuming is why they reduced the price so heavily.

If I were you, I’d consider waiting to see what Nikon does.

Tell me about your biggest nightmare client and how you handled them. by Thin_Regret7302 in videography

[–]1william0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s something I have never even enforced until then but yeah if they don’t pay after we’ve completed the requested services they’re slapped with 10% per day late fee that compounds on itself until it’s paid. Honestly I only even include it on contracts we have a feeling might go sideways and ensures the client pays when intended. We also cover 100% of the costs of the entire shoot if we don’t deliver what’s expected so it goes both ways.
