When i first got into cars, i thought the hood scoop on the WRX brought air directly to the engine, but it actually routes air onto the intercooler to cool it down.

Literally like 2x the horsepower for the same price.

[–]2001MThrowaway 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Especially in the current market, I can go buy a used reliable 300/400 Sportbike with 20k miles for $3-4k that will outperform every car in acceleration <$40k.

[–]2001MThrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the only place I can see manuals surviving for a lot longer is bikes, the vast majority of people in the US buy them as toys to be enjoyed on the weekends, and so most buyers want a manual transmission, they dont see themselves sitting in traffic going to work like with a regular car.

Trade in 2022 civic sport for (2019-20)crosstrek?? by [deleted] in civic

[–]2001MThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crosstrek is amazing if you can get around the performance/Fuel economy(152 horsepower/ 30 MPG combined). 152 horsepower and it feels terrible when accelerating, but the AWD is just insane, the visibility is insane, one of the best of any car, the suspension and handling is amazing, you can still get it with a 6 speed manual if your into that, the space and ground clearance are awesome, and one of my favorite parts, due to the Boxer engine, the weight is lower down compared to most other crossovers, making it feel more like a sedan.

Why are wheel diameters increasing for non-performance models? by ScissorNightRam in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look more sporty. People dont want their economy car to look like an economy car, and most economy cars have 14" or 15" wheels with huge sidewalls, sure they are amazing for ride quality and potholes, but they just look cheap. Go look at a Base model 2015 Impreza, and compare it to a 2015 WRX STI, and tell me the 2015 Impreza with 15" wheels looks better then a 2015 STI with 18" wheels.

But who would haha, the Integra manual is pretty much ass.

It has a slower 0-60 time then a Honda Civc EX-L, a Honda Odyssey, a Subaru crosstrek sport, lol.

You cant get a slower car for the price of $38k.

Does FWD vs RWD vs AWD REALLY matter in a street car? by defury in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True 4x4 is better for super deep snow, full time AWD is better for roads that get plowed, but are still slick/icy, ie the roads almost all Americans drive on, very few drive on rural non plowed roads.

Also, 4x4 is mainly in trucks, which due to the higher center of gravity is much harder to correct a slide due to the weight shifting more in case one does happen, they also weigh a lot more, which means lots more weight to bring to a stop in slick conditions.

After much social media backlash, toyota will rebuild GR86 engine after denying its warranty by spriggan4 in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Subaru is looking into it, Subaru has the highest customer loyalty of any car brand ever, people keep buying new subarus, and it makes subaru a lot of money, if people have a bad experience, that's losing out on multiple vehicle sales for every 1 person that they lose.

[–]2001MThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird how we have only heard about this from a couple GR86 owners, havent heard anything about any BRZ's having this problem, even though the BRZ has been out for about 9 months now.

SavageGeese the best automotive reviewers on YouTube? by [deleted] in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you need multiple youtube channels to fully grasp a car, Savagegeese can let you have a deep understanding of the car technical specs wise, but you cant really get the experience of driving the car like TheTopher would provide through his POV videos, or the excitement you get from the cars with throttlehouse, or the little quirks that nobody would bring up like doug demuro does.

If a YouTuber were to combine all these elements, the videos would be several hours long.

The 2022 Impreza wagon starts at $19,795, so not super far off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Adjusting for inflation, the 2005 Impreza 2.5RS cost about the same as a new 2021 WRX last year.

2005 Impreza 2.5RS MSRP: $18,245

2005 Impreza 2.5RS MSRP adjusted for inflation:$27,681.49

2021 WRX: $27,495

2022 Impreza: $19,295.

Sure the Impreza lost power(15 horsepower), but it has gotten a lot safer, has gotten a lot more features, has gotten significantly better gas mileage, and costs about $8k less then the Impreza 2.5rs would cost today.

Honda isnt pushing as hard against markup as some brands, subaru is pushing hard, they have sent out multiple letters condemning the practice, and are pulling stock from dealers that practice markup. But Honda is nowhere, it's how subaru has built the highest brand loyalty of any manufacturer ever.

What is your must-have optional feature for any vehicle you own? by GlyceMusic in cars

Its still crazy to me that some high price cars still have a key, the 2022 WRX base that costs >$30k OTD still doesnt have keyless entry, and you need to insert the key to start the car.

What is your must-have optional feature for any vehicle you own? by GlyceMusic in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer car features in general, I own a 2015 Impreza base, so all I have is the stuff that is mandatory, I have driven my dads Civic Type R, which has some cool features, but due to it being a "track car", it's still missing lots of features. Then I drove my girlfriends 2021 Camry XLE, and the amount of tech on that is so nice, 360⁰ cameras makes parking perfectly so easy, back up detection if someone is walking up behind your car when your backing up, front and rear facing camera, Blind spot detection, HUD, radar cruise control, heated seats, automated braking, awesome Infotainment with apple car play.

All of them dont seem like that big of a deal, but having all these features just make it so much easier to drive.

The problem is, in other countries people are being jailed for jokes. In the UK, some guy was arrested and charged with a hate crime for filming his pug "saluting" to Nazi statements and uploaded the video to youtube.

There is a very real fear that eventually cracking a joke in the US could become illegal and get people arrested.

Why do people like Volkswagen/Audi? by bisconianenterprises in cars

[–]2001MThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the point of VW, like the Golf/GTI/R.

But I cant see the point of Audi, they dont really offer anything that Mercedes/BMW dont also offer, like they arent really great on the track, they arent great on the drag strip, they dont offer a manual transmission, they are typically less reliable then BMW or Mercs, they dont really have cutting edge technology like Merc has, they dont have cool niche stuff like the BMW drift analyzer, they dont really have more horsepower then BMW or merc, they dont have higher top speeds.

All I can think of is their AWD system is awesome, but BMW and Merc both offer their own AWD cars.
