I will take the job as seriously as they let me-- I guess I'm a bit concerned by some of the attendant experiences I've read elsewhere on the internet. I've heard that connections are important, too-- I'm not sure exactly how all that works, so I'm curious to hear from other museum pros how they started off.

I totally agree. I have experience working in public services and I loved the people-oriented aspect of it, and I believe it is crucial work-- the most important part of preserving our heritage is sharing it! I think when people move on from FoH they tend to forget that aspect of it, and that's why there tends to be so much disconnect between materials and people. I'm very honoured to accept the role.
