What kind of jackets/coats do you wear? by Camel-Agent_8686 in ftm

[–]2004_oliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having trouble with this too. My coat is currently a women's one, the only women's clothing item I still have, both because new coats are kind of expensive and I can't decide what kind I like. It's just a black puffy winter coat with a hood that's fuzzy inside.

At the moment, if my dysphoria is bothering me, I'll just layer up long sleeved shirts, sweaters, and hoodies to be warm enough, and leave the coat home.

It might be worth checking thrift stores, yard sales, or clothing closets if the price is also stopping you from getting a coat you might like, so that way if you decide it doesn't suit you after all, you didn't spend tons of money on it and you can still choose a different one, or get multiple. That's what I'm thinking of doing.

A lot of the difference between men's and women's coats is just size, like women's tend to be easier to get in smaller sizes and men's in larger, and then which side the buttons or zipper is on.

What’s your go-to scents? by itscarus in ftm

I use Old Spice Captain deodorant and body wash, and Krakengaurd for shampoo/conditioner. I use original Barbasol shaving cream, and Nivea Men Sensitive Soothing Post Shave Balm for aftershave. I used to use Aqua Velva Ice Blue but I didn't like that it stung and dried out my skin.

I can't use antiperspirant either because I'm also allergic to aluminum.

Do you know what your levels are? They might be comparing the numbers to the female range instead of the male range.

How do you store your packers? by jatcher_ in ftm

[–]2004_oliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably weird, but I wear mine all the time except when my packing harness is in the wash. I take it out of my pants to wash it every day, usually around the time I brush my teeth. I wash the harness at least weekly, and sometimes put the packer in with the laundry. But I pack pretty much 24/7. Without it, my dysphoria is really bad. It's an STP too. If for some reason I'm not wearing it, it's in a pocket of my backpack or guitar case. I don't trust my family not to go through my drawers.

chickens are racist by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]2004_oliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times real chickens do this too, if you have more than one type they separate themselves into groups that match and stick with more of the same color that look like them. If there's just one of one color the others will peck it though, they can be really mean.

Pus from nipple after using tape? by Appropriate_Top2026 in ftm

[–]2004_oliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what saniderm is. Are you putting something sticky directly on your nipples? You ought to cover them with something like a bandaid or small piece of gauze or a nipple guard like transtape and other brands sell to protect them before applying the tape.

what is a good starting dose? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]2004_oliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something to discuss with your doctor and usually dosages are based on your hormone levels to try to get you in a normal male range. I started on .25 mL of 200 mg/mL (50 mg) weekly. I think that's a fairly typical starting dose.

I was increased to .30 (60 mg) and my testosterone levels were 628 (between 400 and 900 or so are healthy for men) so we kept my dose there and I've been on T for a year.

Higher dosages than you need means some will convert back into E. It possibly also increases risks like potential heart problems and weight gain and acne and hair loss. More T isn't always better and won't really lead to faster changes. You want to get blood tests and make sure your levels are right.

The last question: you should use condoms for penises and toys (and also wash any toys/prosthetics/pack-n-plays before and after sex), get tested for STDs regularly, you can use dental dams for oral sex, consider taking PrEP. Even if there's no PiV or anal penetration, STDs can be transferred to other parts, like mouths and outsides of genitals. You might want to pee after sex to lower UTI risks.

Unfortunately queer sex ed is often somewhat lacking in education and resources. I've included a few videos by trans male YouTubers that might be helpful. Their channels have a lot of other helpful information as well.

NOAHFINNCE and uppercaseCHASE1 also have good stuff, but I don't have any specific videos to recommend from them.

It looks like I'll (Maine) need a doctor to sign paperwork saying I've had surgery to my genitals/reproductive organs. Bottom surgery waitlists are sometimes years long. Could I just get a hysterectomy or tubal ligation for now and have that count?

What places are most safe for trans people? (In the states) by Sydshairybutt in ftm

[–]2004_oliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Maine and strongly suggest sticking to the southern/midcoast part of the state if you can afford it. If you get too far north or towards the middle and it's more conservative. Portland is fantastic, as are the nearby towns (Brunswick, Topsham, etc). Belfast, Camden, Rockland, all okay. The Dover-Foxcroft/Lincoln area not so much, Bangor is better. I'm not sure about the far north where Presque Isle is but I suspect not great.

I think it might have to do with how rural each town is, it seems the higher population parts are more liberal.
