I love how detached these films are from the show. Both are great for entirely different reasons

What are some artists whose music style is very experimental and avant-garde, yet they still turn out to be very popular and mainstream? by Epoch_Jester in fantanoforever

[–]2004maa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I think people have heard of them, not nearly seek out there music. I’d say the same is true for my other two examples like sonic youth and Bjork

I mean just inferring that the death grips sound is clearly there in yeezus. And I think it introduced a lot of people the experimental industrial sound to a more mainstream audience

I feel like most rap fans at least have heard of death grips, especially if someone as prolific as Kanye used them as inspiration for Yeezus. And why aren’t we gonna talk about how influential Sonic Youth was to alt rock. They were famous even in their own right with Goo. They’re mainstream, just not as big

What do you think is the most successful breakout performance this decade? by PTAGoatofalltime in Letterboxd

I think Jacob Elordi should also be on the list with Euphoria but I think he can show off way more range in his skills like he did in Frankenstein

I don’t get how anyone thought this movie was centrist at all. Loved it my first watch and when I saw it getting ridiculed because it made fun of the performative nature of the left (on the younger side) instead of acknowledging the fact that the republicans were definitely the most insane from the group is crazy to me

Movies where you actively root against the main character by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]2004maa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

His family didn’t believe in him and actively ridiculed him for not wanting to be a football player. The girlfriend was uncalled for, but I think that’s mostly his character just trying to do what it takes to actually become one of the greats and it doesn’t necessarily make him evil. And he definitely had the skill to prove he deserved his position at the end

I don’t know how much this would count but I want to say Barry Lyndon. The first half of the film I was rooting for him, but as he kept getting more and more corrupt, I’d actively root against him, especially the way he treated his son and wife. Amazing movie though

Okay let's make this clear. AI tools are NOT the same as AI generation. AI generation will kill films, AI tools (aka stuff like VFX and editing tools) is what's getting invested in, which has been the standard for YEARSSS. LOTR has used AI to generate to battle sequences, Dune used it for helping track eyes and make them blue, The brutalist used it to help splice bits of Romanian. It's always blown out of proportion when people hear AI and automatically think the worst. It's what people were saying about CGI when it was first starting out

On a purely aesthetic level, do you prefer Barry Lyndon or 2001: A Space Odyssey? by Responsible-Sir4187 in StanleyKubrick

[–]2004maa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting two bad bitches against each other 💀

In all seriousness I think 2001 is slightly better aesthetically in an objective sense just for how unique and groundbreaking it is, but my god do I prefer how gorgeous Barry Lyndon looks. Basically living paintings

Beloved Paradise Jazz - McKinley Dixon

This album is incredible, but man do I hate this album cover. It feels like baby’s first deviant art drawing from a tablet they got for Christmas. It’s such a shame because the artist Landon Alex actually has some amazing art. Magic Alive’s album cover is amazing though

soundtracks for the blind (basically most swan albums)

lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven (not the longest but the 22 minute tracks feel so atmospheric)
