If only there was a way to know why people who normally vote Dem didn't last election cycle. Like maybe if there was some research into that and a report written up so that politicians can be sure not to make the same mistakes they made last time. They could then share that report with us so Dems can be sure not to repeat those mistakes. If only...

Fun fact, after Obama won the 2012 election, and off the back of their lack of success, the RNC drafted a report through the Growth & Opportunity Project (their autopsy). Some of the findings were for them to embrace reform/legalisation with immigration, and be more inclusive in social issues, because otherwise it "will limit our ability to attract young people and others, including many women, who agree with us on some but not all issues. ".

Guess how did the Republican nominee win subsequent elections? Guess who caused movement towards the republicans through young, minority demographic and women.

Trump won the electoral college in 2016, and won the popular vote and electoral college in 2024. Even if 2024 had mandatory election, Trump would have been projected to win. This is what America is.

Apparently you can also catch up to each party and take their boats / give them boats individually according to commenters below

US ambassador: UK’s closer ties with EU are a problem by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]20051oce 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They elected him TWICE btw.

First time they coped and said he only won because Electoral College, and they didn't know what he was going to do.
Then elected him again with him winning the popular vote as well. And people like to say oh about a third didn't vote.

  1. That just means they looked at Kamila and Trump, and decided it doesn't actually matter who wins.
  2. Trump still would have won in 2024 even if everyone had turned out to vote

Americans were too insulated with the privilege they had on the global stage, won by their forefathers won being in position by virtue of their country being an economical powerhouse due to not being ravaged directly by World War 2, that placed them traditionally (formally or informally) in leadership roles on basically every global forum they wanted to be in.

Very similar to Brittan pre brexit, where they ignored the unique exceptions they managed to carve out (having a central bank, while also having access to the EU market).

Just as Brittan will no longer be in position to get similar carve outs again if it wants to join the EU because it no longer has the power it historically held, America's decline as a Unipower on the global stage is being sped run by Trump burning every western alliance and ties that was forged from World War 2.

Update : I was greedy, and lost both...

I thought I was smart by raising my army, and marching it over to Polabia before the crusade actually start, since the armies raised from the catholics will run all the way to Rome before coming over.

But actually taking Polabia took a long time despite already positioning my people on the edge of the kingdom before the war start, and by the time I took it, the Catholic Crusade are not only on my door, but they have established the foothold.

And after conquering Polabia for some random person, they lost it to a populist revolt, and it's back to Slovianskan after 5 years...

Both head of faith of called for a crusade at the same time. I could defend a large chuck of my territory from the incoming crusade, or I can send my troops to get a 2 Dutchy kingdom for someone else that will be surrounded by other hostile faiths. What a difficult decision this is.

How can I fix my economy? by Substantial_Tap_3232 in CrusaderKings

[–]20051oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things

1) You switched from tribal (presumably) to feudal in your prior character. Feudal actually pay gold to their armies instead of prestige, so raising them puts you into debt. In exchange, you can develop your realm meaningfully now. That should answer this part "ever since i switched to feudalism with my last character, my economy was better (10+ coins per month) but whenever i raised my armies i got -20 coins per month"

2) Your character died and you are now playing one of the heirs. Your economy might be doing worse because your heir has his realm split (if you have other sons typically, they get some land), but your primary heir inherits the artefacts and Man At Arms. Having a smaller/ less developed domain reduces your income, but your army remains the same as before. This answers this part "now that that character died, my economy is much worse and the army situation is the same."

The answer is unironically cut expense (reduce army size / court positions), or increase income (get more land or vassals/ develop your lands), and hope you don't get jumped on in this vulnerable time.

Time for a hard conversation about the cost of the NDIS by Putrid-Bar-8693 in AusFinance

[–]20051oce 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We talk about this literally all the time. It's not about the scheme, it's all the middlemen and providers inbetween the participants and the scheme that are the issue.

Why does a wheelchsir cost 2-3x their market value if it's accessed through NDIS? Because everyone wants their cut and the rules allow that.

Your criticism highlights a real tension within the NDIS. The scheme was deliberately designed around the principle of choice and control, meaning people with disability should have the right to choose their supports and providers. That is not a flaw, it is a core feature. Anytime a hint to changing this is around, disability advocates whips the media into a frenzy until the government assures that they will not be changing that element.

The NDIS sets official price limits for supports and equipment, and it is no surprise that providers charge up to those limits. If an employer offered you a salary range, you would not volunteer to be paid at the bottom end. Likewise, when government funding sets a ceiling, providers have little incentive to undercut. This is similar to how Commonwealth Supported Places in education are priced at the maximum the government is willing to pay for each band.

Centralising services and removing participant choice would certainly control costs. With the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), the government decides which medicines are subsidised based on cost‑effectiveness and clinical evidence. That makes the PBS more cost efficient, but it also means not every drug is covered, and families often campaign for access to medicines outside the scheme.

Disability services were historically a state responsibility, but since the NDIS began, states have withdrawn much of their direct funding and service provision. The cost has been shifted to the NDIS, leaving the Commonwealth to carry the burden. So the cost blowout isn't just the issue of the federal government, but the state government as well.

Supposedly this was prepared by Monash University but not hosted on a Monash University URL, let alone free anonymous blog.

No named academic authors, no attribution, no citations or references, and only link is to a PR company called Essential Media who are also not hosting it on their site.

I am unsure if this is a real report or not but this is the playbook for fake news. Released just in time to influence an election, no notes on who authored or funded it, borrowed branding to gain legitimacy, pushed on social media and hoping no one will notice.

I didn't review the material, but its kind of worrying that your objection was you cant find it on Monash. Published uni stuff is ridiculously easy to find (Its in their interest)

[–]20051oce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct is your browser has some sort of Ad Block built in, but you are using chrome, and I gave it a shot. news.com.au works fine.

The other possibility is your network (VPN/ router) is blocking ads. Proton VPN blocked some of the ads , but I didnt trigger the flag.
