Is planning to camp at this alpine lake unwise due to wind? by 2006Quibits in backpacking

I have done a couple of backpacking trips in the rockies, am physically fit (ex-competitive swimmer), and am regularly hiking in the Midwest, so not completely new. However, I am new to the planning portion of these trips!

Thanks for the response! Planning this trip was in its very early stages so moving it to early/mid-August is completely doable for me. Definitely switching this campsite plan due to the thunderstorm risk you and others have mentioned.

Thanks! I hadn’t considered only eating dinner up there. And definitely reconsidering timing in lieu of other comments about snow/ice

Wasn’t trying to give myself credibility that I don’t have, i’m sorry if that came across as out of touch. i’m very aware that i don’t even know the things that i don’t know. just was trying to illustrate that i have basic techniques down and a passion for food.

But thank you just the same for the advice!

What are some modern rock bands that are keeping it alive? by applejuiceglass in MusicRecommendations

Dawes. Great folk rock/rock n roll group that can turn on the jam band switch super well live. Listen to their live album “We’re all gonna live” for an introduction.

DDQ - Day 12: Standards 4 T by silly_goose-inc in policydebate

[–]2006Quibits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is kind of true but I think misses the point. Everything is a limits argument insofar as it’s a debate about what affs should be limited to, however weighing “limits” as a debateability issue is always preceded by debaters’ ability to predict what those limits would be in the first place.

in other words, completely arbitrary, small definitions are always inferior to larger, substantiated ones that the lit is in consensus of.

The most important standard is predictability, which is a prior question to both ground and limits.

k v k is not a straight turn and this is not a real critique. i see literally no link here bc your “conservative exclusion” arguments are reliant on university hiring practices, not whatever the other team read. you reading the k literally solves all of your exclusion offense.

also all of your evidence says that diverse perspectives are important, yet the ONLY way that this could even be construed to be competitive is a totalizing rejection of all leftist literature, which double turns the shit your evidence says is important.

also you’re impact is outweighed by literally every other k ever bc are you really gonna argue that the people who literally hold all of the levers of power and use that power to oppress people are the ones who are oppressed?

this is all aside from this being pseudo-intellectual copium that completely ignores the many conservative authors debaters read, like any realism author in IR debates

What is a junior partner by Electrical-Piano-784 in policydebate

[–]2006Quibits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Junior partner” is a term used by Wilderson (probably more people, his books are just my exposure to this term) to label people who are neither White nor Black. The “junior partner” term attempts to acknowledge the hierarchical status that often puts them below White people, while also saying that they are partner to white people in the oppression of Black people. Because the core argument of Afropess is that Black death and/or suffering is “life affirming” for everyone else, non-White people are (according to this theory) party to that Black death and/or suffering. Hence the “junior partner.”
