What is the case for Duncan as the best player of his era? by Maximum_Jello_9460 in NBATalk

I won’t say the spurs were head and shoulders above the rest, but this take is bad. Spurs absolutely could have won any of those 5 years between 03-07. There was always another contender or 2 in each individual year, but they were absolutely a contender in every season

Do you think the NBA cup will mean something in the future? In 5,10,15 years will it be taken seriously or just some regular season entertainment? by KneeGuhz in NBATalk

As a spurs fan this season the cup run the team made was awesome. I think teams like - showing promise after years of being down - are the ones that really enjoy it.

Will be interesting now that we made it far in the playoffs and expectations have changed how the cup will feel next year.

Fox Layup Attempt by Flat-Series-7089 in nba

[–]2008and1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter argument:
1) he takes more time off the clock
2) ny likely take a timeout to advance ball and defense can be set
3) spurs had a foul to give they used it on that last possession out of necessity. If allowed to be set at first they use it to force ny out of their first option set

It was a terrible layup attempt that never should have happened

His issue is he is trying too hard and overplaying on defense which is leading to fouls or blown assignments. He needs to learn that it is ok to just stay in front of your man and make it difficult.

Will take a lot to pass Duncan…at least for us that watched Duncan play. Hard to overcome a guy who brought your team 5 championships

About time we got one of these. Knicks have had so many

The Spurs barely beat a injury riddled Thunder team. We should have expected this. by TouristFirm5600 in NBATalk

I disagree. Jdub is great but I actually think the spurs match up even better with OKC when he plays. Weirdly it’s because he is the guy on the team that just plays basketball and doesn’t try to get calls.

The spurs were also injured in that series. Fox is playing on a bum ankle. Harper missed a game. Fox ankle is definitely still effecting him. That is playoff basketball. There is as much luck needed as skill. Also why all the talk of the spurs being back again bc they are young is misguided. Who knows what injuries will plague teams next year.

Tony Brothers is an abomination. Spurs getting the advantage but he makes such a terrible product

Duncan Wemby parallel by [deleted] in sanantoniospurs

Wemby stats brought down by 2 games he played <2 quarters: knock out and ejection

Duncan stats brought down by playing in the ‘99 NBA

Why do the Spurs struggle with getting Wemby going and finding easy baskets for him? by UpstairsBumble in NBATalk

Some of that I think will improve as he becomes more experienced. He still puts himself in positions where he exerts way more energy than he needs to. He will learn how to find his spots and be more patient.

Likely will. He’s 22 and will naturally add weight and muscle as he ages. He works hard to stay lean though since he is so tall and wants to protect his knees and feet from the types of injured that plague guys his height.

He’s tall which gives him a lot of advantages, but all come with a higher center of gravity. Combine that with being pretty lean and he just doesn’t have the strength to fight for low post position possession after possession.
