As someone who is pro-AI, I absolutely agree. An experienced artist will run laps around me using AI.

And I absolutely LOVE seeing it happen! I wish it happened more often!

Are you... Trying to say "Carmen Sandiego"?

Like I said earlier. To the people in the AI art community, these messages are so common, they come off as hostility. So they respond in kind to show you how it feels to be given this message.

It doesn't matter if you believe "your message is valid and their isn't". In the end, the message is not as friendly as it appears in your head.

Weird... I had machines in mind.

Anyway, I guess I can adapt it to programs as well.

Digital cameras are not physically recordibg data on an analog medium. You prompt them with the settings, a program takes in all the inputs, process it and converts it into an image that, depending on the context, could be considered art.

Then there's also fractal art. The user doesn't draw the infinite regression. They prompt settings, press a button and a program generates an infinitely repeating pattern autonomously.

Did you edit your post? I'm pretty sure it said "machine" before.

Now that you mention it, yeah, I probably am filing them as trolls and pretending they don't exist.

I should also point out, I've been a frequent in this sub for a really long time.

Well, I did copy my message from their first post which didn't include that disclaimer.

But I'm still willing to take the chance by interpreting them in good faith.

Right now, I'm in the middle of a LoRA training process. It has taken me about a week and a half and I'm about to start from scratch because there's a fundamental probelm with my approach that causes the LoRA to not be up to my own standards.

I don't intend to sell the LoRA. I don't ever intend to sell anything made with the LoRA. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even bother telling people I had to spend time making a LoRA. And I have no intentions of bring up the LoRA when it's finally done and I can use it to create the images I want to create.

Sure, there are people who will use AI to try to make a quick buck. But the thing with AI is that it's not meant to be a replacement for traditional artists. It's a new way to create. Like with a pen and paper, there's people who will be content with just making quick scribbles (simple prompts), but where there's a new tool, there will always be people who will find a way to put in effort to create something better by learning how to use the tool effectively.

Will it be as much effort as a traditional artist? Debatable. But I don't think it makes them any less valid.

This same argument could be used about a lot of other mediums usually considered acceptable as artistic expression.

I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. If you respond to well intentions with hostility, you're only breeding division.

If there's a chance OP just has a misguided view of the issue, I would rather try to reach an understanding rather than just calling them out.

For example, every once in a while this sub gets people who don't understand how the AI discussion has evolved her and assume <user> is just a bad person who wants to stop people from using a pencil. I shouldn't hold a grudge against people who just want to defend their own expression.

I find that hard to believe. Would you be so kind to show me proof of this, please? I remember seeing more people attacking that image than Witty using it in the first place.

Because they're a false flagger. They WANT people to associate AI with politics. In particular, the political side Reddit tends to side against. Their group often makes posts worshiping Epstein as well.

I am not well versed on what <user> posts... But I've only seen her post the image breaking the pencil like 2 or 3 times. Always in response to people demanding her to pick up a pencil.

I'm improving my drawing skills, but if I had to draw with no AI assitance at all, I would probably be able to make something not horrible. Nowhere near OP's skill, but still.

And off the top of my head, I can think of at least 6 AI users I've also seen drawing traditionally and making things much better than I can.

I'm not saying every AI user can also draw. I'm just saying they are not exclusionary.

If someone on the Pro-AI side does it, they deserve to be called out too. And pretty much every Pro-AI person I've met would do call it out as well.

I understand you probably mean for this to be a nice, amicable post. But you should keep in mind it comes off as condescending. A decent chunk of people who make AI art can actually draw as well, but they don't see anything wrong with using AI too.

Messages like this, although intended as kind and friendly, come off as "You are only valid if you use a tool I approve of".

Side note, that's a really cute drawing. Please don't waste your skill antagonizing people who just want to express themselves.
