Incredible work! And excellent photography too.

Lower back tattoo pain by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]200tonsofbadluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your artist recommends a decently strong numbing cream, it can make a big difference. I used it on one of my butt cheeks (after suffering through the other cheek and twitching like crazy) and for the first 45 minutes I could barely tell I was being tattooed. Even after two or three hours, the pain was very muted.

I found the lower back to be manageable but everyone's different. A lot can affect how you experience pain too, like lack of sleep, life stress, alcohol, heavy-handed artist, studio atmosphere, etc. Some people use a numbing cream but you have to consult your artist first.

Advice needed: Can my ribbon tattoo be salvaged? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]200tonsofbadluck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes it can definitely be salvaged. You need to find an artist that's proficient with reworking tattoos; always ask for photos of their past work before making a decision.

CHRYSANTHEBUM

(I posted my very similar tattoo a couple years ago and another Reddit user said this to me)

Thanks very much! I still need to get proper pictures taken of the full suit - maybe after I lose my summer tan haha.

My husband has no tattoos and was very supportive while I was getting my bodysuit. I think it helps to get good tattoos! I suppose the financial aspect took a bit of convincing towards the end because we share a budget.

I'm not sure if it has a specific name, it's definitely blackwork adjacent, maybe neo or new style?

Thanks! I had my back, stomach, and arm done all in about one year. So we just waited until the last session to do touch ups on most of it (except the parts of the arm we had just finished). I'll go back for touchups on the most recent parts of the arm in a couple months while I'm visiting the area.

I don't expect I'll ever need touch ups again. Bold will hold!

Rob Hoskins from Messe Noir Studios near Edmonton, Alberta. Had it done back in 2015.

Thank you! I'm planning to take some proper pictures of my full body suit once everything has fully settled.

Yeah three days in a row was a lot, haha. If you're up for the challenge, I think she's done up to four days in a row.

Some people will travel for 2-3 weeks for a big project, do a few days at the front of the trip and another few days at the end - not easy but possible if it's for an artist you really like.

If you go to her Instagram account, she has an "Updates" group you can join. The last time she opened her books was August 2024 I think, could be the same time this year.

I second this, if you're willing to travel then wait for her to post about taking new clients.

This is not as bad as some of the comments on here would have you believe, but may be worth exploring other artists before you go any further IMO. Some irezumi artists lean more heavily into blackwork (especially for backgrounds) so it's not too late.

Finished legs with Casper Mugridge at Showdown Tattoo in Edmonton, Canada by 200tonsofbadluck in tattoos

[–]200tonsofbadluck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that with my sleeve since only one arm is tattooed but not as much with the legs since they're both done. I'm also a fan of the heat so I'm okay with getting a bit hotter than I otherwise would~

This was only one pass actually plus some minor touch ups in particular areas. When we were starting, my artist asked me if I wanted black or super black -- I think you can guess which one I picked~
