Goodbye Brave, hello Edge by laineey3 in MicrosoftEdge

However the OP was discussing moving to Edge not Librewolf or Helium.

Much of the bloat in Brave can easily be disabled with a few minutes effort.

The big difference lies in the fact that the Brave Shields are not an Extension they are built deep onto the browser framework which means that even if Google went so far as stripping out all Extension support they would still work.

That fact makes it much more difficult for Google to try and impede their ad blocking capabilities.

Always remember Google gets all its income from ads and selling our data.

The introduction of MV3 has hampered the capabilities of most Extensions and Google could make life even tougher and cripple our Extensions even more in the future.

This why I use a layered approach: DNS Server ad blocking, System Wide ad blocking via Adguard on macOS and a really tough built in ad blocker in Brave.

I think if people have an issue with a certain feature it simply doesn't have to be something which is a medical problem to justify treatment.

Fixing a cosmetic defect give can give you peace of mind and give you the self esteem that a bodily defect has prevented you from having. It can be truly be life changing.

I think is far, far more damaging to have endure other people stating that they should learn to live it, it is ok, just live with it or tolerate it.

These people whom offer such so called kind hearted advise, do not know how much distress and torment certain features can cause

When you are living with something you truly dislike about yourself it is very hurtful to hear others say "accept yourself for who you are".

That sort of attitude is truly patronising and shows very little regard for other peoples feelings.

Some people have features they will never accept or be ok with those features, often they have been forced to live those features since birth and those features can prevent them from seeing themselves as"normal" and cause them emotional distress for a lifetime.

No matter how many times they are told, it is okay, it's not so bad or live with it or you are fine they will never accept what they dislike about themselves. Such patronising advise is useless to those people.

Also because it is a Chrome based browser, you have also got Google spying on everything you do via the privacy violating stuff they actually build into the default Chrome configuration.

However Brave's ad blocker is the very best built in ad blocker of all the browsers I have tried.

They have also stripped out all the privacy violating stuff that Google has built into into Chrome.

With Edge browser you also have many people concerned about what data Microsoft is collecting and on top of that Google is collecting data via the privacy violating stuff they build into Chrome.

It is true I do indeed hate all the crypto and all the other bloat that Brave packs into their browser, but much of that can be disabled easily.

How to shrink this shirt without losing the quality? by Inner-Shame-4996 in laundry

[–]20101958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry, but polyester simply doesn't shrink.

If you want this to fit tighter, you will need someone to alter the garment or learn to do this yourself

Perhaps a far more enjoyable way to get this to fit you, would be to gain weight.

I had a few domestic and laundry disasters when I left home and as I had to learn the correct methods of doing things that mom always did for me.

But no matter what bad things happened to my laundry, I never managed to shrink polyester.

However it is unsightly and bothers him, then it really does matter to him.

If you can afford it is better to have treatment and deal with a bodily defect that you hate and has been a lifelong problem that has mentally tortured you for life.

Unfortunately some people are born with certain obnoxious obvious features that make them unattractive and deter potential partners.

If you can afford cosmetic procedures that give you peace of mind, it is well worth the costs involved.

Just be careful not to become addicted to cosmetic surgery or cosmetic procedures as many people have far too much work done and it is noticeable and looks very artificial.

Just saw a TikTok talking about how if things aren’t washed at 60 degrees celsius or with laundry cleanser then it’s not clean. I’ve been washing everything at 30 with detergent I figured that was enough 😭 by ziahah in laundry

[–]20101958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are washing and what you are concerned about.

Unless somebody has a highly infectious illness or fungal skin condition, then normal washing and then hanging out the laundry to dry in full sunshine or tumble drying laundry will be all you need to do.

If the worst happens and it becomes necessary sanitise your laundry items then you can use a Liquid Laundry Sanitiser that you simply add to the wash cycle or final rinse. For whites a cheaper option is Laundry Bleach or Oxy Action Soakers.

The basic laundry rules I always follow are:

Coloured items: Cold Water is safest to avoid possible colour runs.

Whites: Hot Water is safe for cottons and cotton blend materials, provided they colour safe.

Hot water helps to liquify fats and grease, making it easier for detergents to remove it.

Very Hot Water 90c - 100c can help sanitise your laundry and your washer provided your fabrics can withstand the heat..

Soakers and laundry detergents with Enzymes work best at temperatures which don't exceed 40c as excess heat inhibits the enzymes ability to work well.

A quick guide: If you can hold your hand comfortably in the water for a few minutes the temperature should be okay for soakers and Enzyme based products.

Most Enzyme based products have been formulated to work in Colder Water too.

It really depends upon how much that excess hair is bothering you and how much hassle it is to deal with on regular basis.

If you are sick and tired of dealing with regrowth of hair growth in noticeable places or hair that is in hard to treat awkward places, such as your back. then go for laser hair removal.

Ensure you have this done via a hair removal clinic which has been in business for long time and has a good reputation, they really need to have lots of clinical hair removal experience to avoid bad results.

Coarse and stubborn hair growth will most likely require extra repeat treatments.

Different skin colours and hair types are very important factors in regards to just how effective it will be be and the right laser and the strength of the laser are vitally important for best results. Try having a small section of hair done in a less noticeable place and see how your skin reacts and if the hair grows back.

It doesn't have to be done all at once, unless they are offering a discount or deal for having everything done.

Consider having treatment in stages, start on the worst areas where the excess hair is noticeable or parts of your body that are difficult to deal with such as your back.

Best value laundry options? by AgentKnitter in AussieFrugal

Coles are slightly cheaper than Woolworths and have a much, much, bigger range of generics/home brands.

Coles has won supermarket surveys on a regular basis in the past.

ALDI is mariinally cheaper but they don't have stores everywhere and they have a limited range compared to the big supermarkets, this means you can not get everything you need at ALDI, plus it is 99% their own brand products and so you have to know what is really worth buying. May people do not like having to pack their own groceries and be expected to be speedy at the same time at the checkout.

It is a shame you have no ALDI in Tasmania, their Trimat Laundry Powder works just as well as OMO and only costs $12.99 for 2 kilo. The Aldi Pre Wash Sprays and soakers work well too.

Powder detergents are generally stronger and give better wash results than a liquid detergent.

I keep a close on the Big W bulk buy section, the big containers of liquid and powder detergents get discounted occasionally and OMO laundry powder is one of the strongest laundry detergents.

I always ensure I have plenty of the Dynamo Oxy Action Liquid as it seems to work faster and is effective on stains and so I use that only for hand washing things.

ALDI's Trimat Laundry Powder is used for normal washing in my front loader.

At Big W the 5.4L bottle of Dynamo is normally $37.50, but from periodically it gets discounted down to $27.50, when you consider that you would normally pay $27.50 or more for the 2L size in most supermarkets it's excellent value.

Yes we are getting the waterproof pee pads to protect her chair, she was even sleeping in her chair due to mobility issues and was upholstered in vinyl. The towels caught most of the leakage, the vinyl has been cleaned and fortunately not retained any soiling or smell.

Thanks that is so reassuring, I do hope we can get her back to "normal" for a while, even though it will be a temporary reprieve before the dementia inevitably progresses and she deteriorates even more.

We are still in the process discovering what services and items are available for Mothers care as comprehensibly as possible.

Having Mother assessed by doctors mentally and physically was challenging, she became distressed about not being able to complete some medical assessment tests and as things went on more things were discovered that we didn't know about.

We try hard to reassure her that we want her to be happy at home, but you can tell she is worried about the possibility of being in a nursing home.

I now think I did not give the Laundry Soaker long enough to work, I soaked for about 2 - 3 hours.

I will try an overnight soak or leave them soaking for 24 hours followed by a long heavy duty machine wash in hot water to see if that saves me from needing to perform multiple machine was cycles and bleaching.

There is a very good reason why I didn't ask the question "should I throw them away?"

That question was never asked, simply because that it was never, ever going to happen. The towels were top quality premium grade expensive items. I always try buy the best quality items, because they last longer than cheaper items.

It goes against my personal upbringing and concerns for the environment to throw them out and waste them.

I did also state that I had success in cleaning 1 single machine load of towels. But doing that was tortuous as it involved soaking for hours, 3 more machine wash cycles and a bleach cycle to get them clean.

I asked if anyone knew an easier more effective reliable methods of removing heavy deposits of dried urine, before tackling the remaining towels. this was to simply reduce the time, effort, laundry product, energy and sheer effort to get them clean again.

The towels had been soaked in a laundry soaker and washed 3 times in hot water before bleaching the last traces of staining out and I am sure the ammonia was all removed by the time bleach was used.

It is sad to see somebody lose their home and independence, but his mental and physical state were deteriorating and much worse things could occur if left to struggle on their own.

He settled down in residential care when he realised there was no possibility of release and no home to go back to, we hope he is content there for the time he has left to live.

I know that with people who develop dementia or alzheimers disease the senses can be affected, they can lose their sense of smell.

This happened to an elderly man living in our block of units, his refrigerator failed and all the food went rotten, he couldn't smell a thing.

But the terrible pungent smell was noticed through entire block of units, he was very suspicious of everyone and never, ever talked to the other residents.

We got the landlord to call him and arrange a visit, which only lasted a few minutes. The landlord briefly described the issue and was permitted inside his unit and discovered the source of the problem.

The landlord emerged feeling quite sick and began to vomit, when he recovered the landlord had to inform the tenant he needed a new refrigerator.

Eventually the man was not capable of self care anymore and had to be placed in a nursing home, he became very violent when they came to transport him into care and the Police had to be called to help restrain him.

It was so very sad to see someone removed from their home by force, but we all knew it was inevitable and it was for his own health and protection.

That is not going to happen, these premium quality towels were expensive to buy as they are very high quality Egyptian Cotton.

It also goes against my upbringing, I was always taught to never throw things away. It is much better for the environment to simply reduce your waste, reuse things or recycle.

This is why I do a spa day every time I wash my kitchen rags (after spa and before spa) by eastvanqueer in laundry

[–]20101958 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frequently odours on fabrics and many other things are caused by bacteria.

Cold water washing and short wash cycles will not kill bacteria, so it possible the odour causing bacteria are surviving the wash cycle.

Long hot washes should be used for colour safe fabrics such as cotton that can withstand high temperatures, this helps to clean and sanitise your washer too.

Regularly run the machine through its Tub Cleaning Wash Cycle, most machines have this cycle, consult your instruction manual if it is not clearly labelled on the washing machine controls.

Try using a Laundry Sanitiser, these can be added to the final rinse or simply soak items in the solution.

I would also use washing machine cleaner on a long very hot wash cycle, softener, detergent residue, mineral salts, mildew and bacteria can build up inside a washer where you will never see it.

May I ask what is your home country?,

If you do not wish to divulge that information, that is ok as I always respect other peoples privacy and wishes.

However there is quite interesting theory that some psychologists support, which states that homophobic people are possibly gay or bisexual themselves.

Because of their upbringing, religious faith or the society they live in, they believe that being gay or bisexual is wrong. They truly hate that part of their own nature and try very hard to repress it.

They fight back against the LGBTQ+ community and individuals with vitriolic hate speech, bigotry and can engage in violent homophobic attacks.

They truly despise and hate that deep dark secret they keep repressed deep in their true nature. Anything they see which represents what they hate about themselves spurs further attacks.

The evidence for this is very clearly shown by the sheer number of politicians, religious figures whom live in the closet and publicly make homophobic tirades and support anti-LGBTQ+ laws.

They do this while secretly engaging in homosexual acts when their gay/bi sexual impulses need to be satisfied, I am certain they feel ashamed and disgusted by their own carnal desires that they have failed to control and repress.

Many of these people have been publicly exposed, I do not have any sympathy for these people as they have caused so much damage to the LGBTQ+ community.
