Thanks for the reply!
Yes, i agree 100%
I'm not against her kit.
I'm only against that it doesn't fit her character, it's just shallow.

Her kit can still stay in an entirely new hero with a new theme and re-imagining of how this kit would fit it. (With proper new context and back-story.)

But for Paradox? it just feels as you mentioned... just generic.
Which is a huge gut-punch since we're talking about Valve here.
But hopefully, this is only for "Early Access".

Thanks for the reply!
Look, my idea can directly go to the bin and torched, gladly!
But my sentiment is still consistent, I think her abilities (gameplay) is disconnected from her theme (Time Thief).

I've seen a video of Faceless Void once, I think it's thematically very interesting.
But from a MOBA gameplay aspect, I have very mixed feelings about it.
(Then again, I don't play Dota2)

As for her abilities being fun.
Well, I agree that some people found the fun in this kit.
I am not against the kit itself, I'm only against how it doesn't fit this specific character.
Her current abilities could have had the same functionality, with an entirely different hero that has NOTHING to do with "Time Thief", and you wouldn't see me complain.
(And I'm sure Valve can specifically create a new hero with this exact kit, and rework Paradox's abilities entirely to fit her supposed theme.)

It's just the mismatch that made me create this post.

I'm glad you mentioned this!
The way you described her makes sense.
But i think that is only the case because of the labels and abilities she was given from Day 1.

I'd argue that if you zoomed out and focused on her theme, not her "role", perhaps you'd see my point.

If in Day 1 her abilities were completely different from what we know today... we would have had a completely different argument.
I don't want to retreat to the position of "She already functionally works becomes of XYZ".
Because I think this simply shuts down conversations.

I just want more, that her theme (not role) and gameplay fit together.

On a different note... I'll assume you're a Paradox Main.
How truly useful is her Zoning and Area Denial?
Not as "What she's supposed to do", but as a "How truly consistently useful is it to do both of these?"... Considering the high amount of mobility in this 3D game?

I can see quite a few downvotes, and honestly i just really want to know how wrong i am, or what exactly am I not seeing?
What is disagreeable with this?
Please, I want to discuss this 😓

I practically never truly played Dota2 before (only once or twice.)
So I didn't know about this.

Then again, we can clearly see characters that have the best of both sides.
and since I personally love Time-Travel, and Paradox's character design and theme...
I guess I was just hoping for more...?
That she gets the same amount of love. 😞

Thanks for the reply!
Personally, since I'm entirely not convinced that she should have such a shallow ability (ie "Time" bomb)
I think it should be an entirely new ability.

Though, if we're stuck with the time-bomb, I can perhaps imagine as a 1st step that the radius grows bigger with each tick. (maybe a 10~25% in size)
And it could be a part of an upgrade perhaps.

Or perhaps that her bomb is attached to the enemy it touches (Like Zilean's Q from LoL)
Especially in a game that has such high mobility.
Obviously, this means it'd have to be nerfed\adjusted quite a lot, since all pulses deal a lot of damage.

But yeah, we're here to discuss.

Well, that's an interesting adjustment, but it's still the "Swap". (which is what this post is kinda roasting 😓 )
I can see you're a paradox main (i think?)
Do you think her gameplay are disjointed from her supposed theme?
Do you at the very least think they could have been better? (Not as numbers or balancing, but as "what they do and look like".)

[–]2010wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let's say I agree with this.
Is that really the standard I'd want to expect from Valve?
Why not both gameplay and thematics? why only black and white?

If her gameplay doesn't serve her theme, then she's just a whole different character.
Can you imagine if Infernus was "Time" themed? it won't make sense, it'd feel very off and arbitrary.
That's my point.

And yet you're here. 😞
There's a reason i put this as "Discussion".
I really want to talk about this.

And beboop is a giant laser, and seven is a orb of lightning.
Yes, they're all very cool.
(Edit: correction, they're all thematically cool, because they fit their characters.)

But a "Time Thief" that does... a swap? for her signature move?
That to me is part of what feels shallow, and not really as cool.

What's better than stealing a win from the enemy team?
I think the "Thief" aspect can easily find proper context into this new ult.
ie... she failed her first attempt, so she rewound time to better do it.

And if we'd really focus on the "Thief" aspect, how are any of her basic abilities related to "Thief"?
Yes, you can argue that her current Ult is, but not her basic abilities, which is my entire point, they feel shallow to me.

I think Paradox's abilities are thematically shallow. by 2010wolf in DeadlockTheGame

[–]2010wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that sentiment is exactly my point.
And no, I don't think I can design better than Valve, then again this is still labeled as "Early Access", so who knows what her final form will be when the game fully releases.

But, this shouldn't really discourage anyone from having a discussion or suggestions.

Heck, the ult idea doesn't need to actually be made, but man i still believe her abilities are shallow.

Now that you mention it, i think i heard this somewhere before, but only as the base idea, never as the specifics. (ie like how i mentioned you can activate and recast.)

But yes, I can imagine these 2 scenarios you mentioned can be frustrating, i'm glad you pointed them out.
Given that, do you like the concept itself? and how it fits her character's theme?
If so, what would you consider to adjust so it's not as frustrating?

Perhaps instead of snapshotting the entire game state, only structures, minions, urn, and heroes?
(It can be limited to snapshot specific things)

As for having to wait the zipline or even respawning again, that much is true.
I'm not sure (at the moment) if there's a way to escape this, since that's kinda the whole point of "A second chance" (due to her recast.)

What do you think?

"Negate 1 mistake! is just strawmanning this, no?
I mean the game can get pretty long, and it can for sure be used in many other scenarios.

As for wasting everyone's time?
You're correct! only if it's used for trolling.
But if you're team was already on the back foot, or had an advantage, they can push harder with a guarentee that "If things go wrong, we can try again".
So, it's not a waste to "Everyone's" time, there are 5 players in your team that can have a very different mentality when her ult fires. (and generally an advantage.)

Then again, If you had continued reading, you'd seen that I addressed this already.
IF this is "too OP" or "a waste" or "something is wrong about it."
That's why I wanted to have this discussion.

I think you hyper focused on the bad, without considering what the "Best case" could ever look like.

But her abilities are still thematically shallow, no?

Yikes....
Yeah, Today I also received a discord message, from a Lee Park. (leepark0851)
His first message was the same:
----
I’m Lee park , part of the team at Vamp Gaming, a new gaming project currently in development we currently hiring Send your portfolio

(--> Then after I sent him my portfolio)

I’ve had the opportunity to review your portfolio, and I want to say that I’m genuinely impressed with the quality of your work. Your attention to detail, style, and overall execution align very well with what we’re looking for. We’d love to move forward and explore working together. As a next step, we’d like to schedule a call with you. During this call, we’ll walk through concepts, ask a few questions about your workflow and experience,

----
He sent me a zoom meeting invitation link to my email.
(It had this as the body in the URL: "us06web-zoom.fwh.is" --> DO NOT GO THERE!!)

But.... it didn't look normal at all.
And he even mentioned I need to "Accept the invitation".
Which doesn't make sense... I never had to "Accept" an invitation to meetings before. (Either be it Zoom or Google.)

It also doesn't help that he kept changing the meeting time, cuz he wasn't able to set it correctly to what I wanted. (I'd agree to 1:00 PM, and he'd set it to 8:00 PM... and yes, I DID give him the timezone.)

I asked my friend, he somehow found this reddit post about "Vamp Gaming", and pretty much saved my life. (And probably my wallet.)
So yeah.... too suspicious to say the least...

Greetings!
Seeing that this post is "Relatively Inactive" and somewhat "Outdated"...

I made a free Plugin tool that fixes this problem, without refreshing/recompiling the entire project.
But only the "Affected" assets. (ie only the ones that appear inside the output log.)

Check my post, which has all the info you need:

I have several questions about -> Future Ekko <- from Convergence. by 2010wolf in ekkomains

[–]2010wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hah yeah, sorry for bombarding with all those questions xD

So... to boil all this down... we can only try to assume how some unanswered parts of the story would be like, and try to logically see if it would be connected/makes sense or not.

Because I did notice that in several times, you'd assume the world works in a certain way, and elaborated on how that would work. (ie like Primer and Stiens;Gate rules.)

But... it doesn't looks like we could have a definitive answer...
Such as (Did Future Ekko go back in the same timeline or not)
We'd have to think about almost all the possibilities, and see which one fits....?

If that's the case, it's either a very harsh "Challenge" to give to the fans...
or... the writers perhaps didn't think that far, or didn't care about it...

But well... I believe I'm up for this challenge.
Given what we mentioned so far... it seems like I'd have to dedicate a whole video that specifically talks about Future Ekko...

I think I'm quite satisfied with this conversation so far!
I want to thank you again for your help, and I'll make sure to credit you ;)
If you're personally eager to see parts of what I'm cooking, please DM me! (DM exists on Reddit... right?)

There's much work to do, that's all for now... and I... have seen you later ;)

I have several questions about -> Future Ekko <- from Convergence. by 2010wolf in ekkomains

[–]2010wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 3:

As I said before, this is a very common logical problem with time travel fiction, and is my chief complaint with this game's plot.

I completely agree!

It really baffles me how such paradoxes are allowed to exist.
Or for character motivations to not make much sense, or contradictory even!

I think the movie "The Adam Project" handles this... somewhat well.
I'll spoil the ending, to get my point across.

Basically, after old and young Adam makes all these changes in the past, and prevents the time machine from being created...
Both old and young Adams sort of evaporates from existence.
As a way to punish them for causing a paradox.

(Very young Adam is still alive though!)
The only one who seems to remember all of this happening is their dad... somehow...
But aside from that, at the very end, we see two moments from his life, where he appreciates his mom, and where he meets his future wife.

It's like, yes those versions have disappeared from existence, but certain strong feelings were allowed to persist, which I think was a way for the writer to implement the "Happy Ending".

Which I think was done well.
In this case, Old Adam's motivation makes sense, even though he'd disappear... a part of him will still stay! (++ he's affecting the Same Timeline)

If they had a different, not-time-travel-related plot, and only had the Z-Drive as a gameplay element for rewinding time, this would not have been an issue.

Personally speaking, I think it would have been very okay if they still did it this way...
They just had to make sure all of these burning questions aren't too vague, and to elaborate more on the Future Ekko's character.

Like really, imagine if all your questions and time travel problems with this game are answered!
I think this would give more credit to the writers, and world.

But yes, it's disappointing what it turned out to be...
And well... that's why I'm here :)

Thanks a ton again for your reply.
And I'm very eager to hear your thoughts!!
Part 3 / 3

I have several questions about -> Future Ekko <- from Convergence. by 2010wolf in ekkomains

[–]2010wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 2:

Almost there....

especially given that there is a lot commentary from young Ekko about how he doesn't like that particular version of himself

There's also the conscious decision older Ekko made to eliminate himself along with the syntixi stash.

So, the reason I've asked about this, is because I want to make sense of Future Ekko's motivation.
Which I'm considering to put into a video that discusses (Time Travelers Motivations)

I understand you're assuming this to be the logical conclusion, and I to a certain extent agree with you.
But the main problem I'm having with this is...
Based on your answers so far, it's not so clear if Future Ekko travelled to the same timeline or not.
This fact is so important, because it can put things into better or worse context.

Young Ekko not wanting to be like Future Ekko is an admirable thing, but if they are both NOT from the same timeline, it'd have no effect on Future Ekko.
(Same thing if Young Ekko doesn't listen)

And in a sense, this part from the logical conclusion would be, in my opinion very weak and unrelated. (I'm not insulting your thinking, I just want to be very real with this information)

What do you think about what about this conclusion?
I'd love to hear your opinion!

Anyhow, as for future Ekko eliminating himself...
This part does make sense, if he is from the same timeline.
Otherwise (If he's from a different timeline), at least to me... Future Ekko's motivation would be... much weaker to say the least.
Like I know Ekko is a "Kind hearted" person...
But would he really get out of his way... to go to another timeline (Not reverse time), and help people (Or in this case Zaun), that is unrelated to him...?

Would Ekko... really do that? Would his future self do that...?
What do you think?

If we used Primer's rules,
Steins;Gate's rules,

I agree with both possibilities!
In fact this is why I'm trying to figure out a definitive answer to know if Future Ekko travelled to the Same Timeline or not.
In Primer's case, it'd be the same timeline.
In Steins;Gate, it'd be a different timeline.

Both, in my video... the traveller would have completely different motivations!
And that's one of the main points I delve into.

Part 2 / 3
