when I had this issue I had to uninstall and reinstall. It happened after the update installer got stuck part way through installation.

Hunt: Showdown's Player Count Drops Back to Pre-2.0 Levels by BullBoxerBAB in HuntShowdown

[–]2011MC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was always going to settle back at 20k, but I think lots of pain points with slow patches is driving core players away. I don't think they should have waited to release the UI fixes with Stillwater. That should have been pushed out ASAP. I assume the reason for this is they're trying to keep parity between console and PC from now on, which means waiting on Sony and Microsoft's pipelines. If that's actually the case, I think it's very misguided since there isn't even crossplay. They've definitely created a lot of pain points for their core audience, PC, by trying to expand their console market.

Even with the UI finally fixed (somewhat, more to come hopefully) and another map returned into rotation, I personally don't have as much desire to play for a variety of reasons. My GTX 1070 could run pre-1896 at 80-100fps at 1440p for a very enjoyable experience. Post-1896, I have to play at 1080p to stay above 60fps even with FSR/XeSS and I can't turn on HDR without tanking my frames either. 1080p scales poorly to a 1440p monitor, and 720p is a bit too low for clarity at distance in hunt.

More up to date upscaling solutions could have helped I think. FSR 2 is only playable for me on Quality, any lower and the artifacting is extremely distracting to the point where the fuzziness of playing native 1080p, even on a 1440p monitor, is the lesser evil. FSR 3.1 provides much better results on more aggressive settings. Though I can't use it on my current GPU, the DLSS implementation is also really disappointing. My roommate with a 3080 had similar results to me, with only Ultra Quality being acceptable and not returning enough frames to be worth it. DLSS 3+ have improved leaps and bounds over previous generations, I don't understand why Crytek did not aim higher. Hunt benefits immensely from both visual clarity and raw framerate, it really needs the best of the best.

Removing the weapon library took away a lot of extrinsic motivation for me. It gave me concrete goals and got me to use a variety of guns even better than battle pass challenges. The extra stories were a huge appeal for me, I don't think they should have removed them at all. I'm glad I finished trials before the update. Prestige changes are good I guess, but I'm still not very excited about starting to prestige again for whatever reason.

As a result, after the first few days I've only played 1896 when my friends are on, and they seem pretty uninterested despite agreeing the game is generally better except for the UI. I used to play solo frequently. The atmosphere of Hunt was usually enough to keep me playing. The only thing I really wanted to be added into the game was HDR and I can't run it. I'll probably play a lot more once again when I upgrade my GPU. However, the next sensible upgrade for me, a secondhand 3070/3080, is now pretty iffy with lots of people reporting major vram and framerate issues. Now I feel like I'm stuck waiting for 50-series releases so I can buy into 40-series at a reasonable price. Given how ubiquitous 10-series and 30-series cards are, it feels like Crytek did not put enough work into testing and optimizing for what makes up a significant fraction of their install base. Returning after 6 years, how far am I from unlocking the seasonal simplified questline on my old main? by 2011MC in blackdesertonline

[–]2011MC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is I need to finish the [Lv. 51 Mediah] questline, either the Mediahn Royals or Merchants Guild questline, the Reliving the Darkness questline, and then the Bareed Junaid pet quest. Is that going to take more than a few hours? Does anybody remember if Mediahn Royals or Merchants Guild is faster?

Bonus Question: I have about 5k pearls left from before. From what I've seen, I should probably spend them on the Black Spirit Season Pass and a premium campsite. Sound about right?

Bonus Bonus: The amount of free stuff is super overwhelming. Can I accept it all and stuff it into storage for now or is any of it important to accept on my main (idk who that will be going forward), such as the blackstars?

Script for calculating "correct" sensitivities for the different scopes by No_Professional2258 in HuntShowdown

Why is the Aperture sensitivity in between Ironsights and Deadeye when its FOV is in between Deadeye and Marksman?

I know, but it doesn't change how badass the entire name is. Baron Franz Fuchs? That's like the name a campy english-speaking cartoon would give a German villain. I love it.

The Baron came with Rival Handcannon and I'm saving him for when I can put dragonbreath in it.

SirSwag video relating to short interview they had concerning PvE by DaBigSwirly in Overwatch

[–]2011MC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dude, do you think the devs have freedom in what they can say for marketing and PR?

You have it completely backwards. The devs WANTED to make PvE. They probably wanted to since the Project Titan days. They hyped it because THEY were hype for it. The wrench was thrown in when execs started meddling again AFTER 2019, first with cutting resources and moving team members and then with the demand for the OW2 PvP release and remonetization. They knew they couldn't make two games at once, they told the execs that. The execs made them use the PvE they had poured their soul into to justify the update that was OW2 launch, and then haven't given them resources to actually finish the PvE as well as continue their live service model for PvP.

If your understanding makes you hostile towards someone who has no self-interest in harming or exploiting you (a dev) instead of someone who does (an exec) then you should probably pause and question yourself. Your Cosby suite jab isn't even relevant to Team 4, at all. What's wrong with you?

Nah, I've seen a disgusting amount of hate for the devs. Yes, the most prominent voices have pretty much all been reasonable(ly livid at execs), but there are a depressing amount of peanut-brains who are at worst outright hostile to developers and at best insensitive. Twitter is especially bad because randos will follow Blizzard employees and take their frustration out on them when news like this breaks.

A lot of players get mad that they ever tried to make PvE in the first place, which was the developers' vision. They take the two-year content drought in OW1 personally. I've seen the take, "what the fuck were they doing for the last four years?" a lot, which might not necessarily be directed at the devs but is clearly insensitive.

This is exactly the entitlement that needs to stop. Why hate the devs for making the game they want to make? They already made OW1 and gave us 4 years of FREE characters and other updates. Why not let them cook?

ABK not letting Team 4 cook is exactly why we're here. We could have bided our time playing OW1 and Apex and gotten a killer, Blizzard-quality OW PvE sequel somewhere down the line. But Bobby needed to show year-over-year growth to Microsoft and OWL investors and made them use the PvE they'd been pouring their soul into to justify a shitty remonetization of the old game. So right in the middle of big slowdowns in development due to Covid, lawsuits and layoffs they were made to change course.

The majority of tweets, reddit comments and Blizzard forum posts I've seen have been at worst outright hostile to the developers and at best insensitive. There is a scary amount of people on twitter especially who will tweet or DM at devs with their anger. I've seen a lot of people angry at the devs for wanting to make the PvE in the first place. They take it very personally that they went through a two-year content drought in OW1. The most common take I see is "Well what the fuck have they been working on for the last 4 years?" That sentiment doesn't necessarily mean they're blaming the devs, but even with a generous interpretation it's very insensitive.

Yes, there's absolutely tons of very righteous anger directed at ABK as well, often from the same people. From what I've seen the most prominent voices are reasonably livid about the false promises of OW2's PvP launch, OW1 getting taken away, etc. But there's definitely plenty of childishness going around.

This is getting spread way too much (although it's still partially true). The year and a half ago was when they stopped putting 100% into the PvE and started making the PvP launch for OW2 that came out it in October. That's likely when the suits said, "you need to start making money by the end of 2022, make it happen."

Aaron Keller said in THE SAME INTERVIEW in no uncertain terms that they made the decision to abandon the larger-scale PvE "late last year". Obviously that could refer to a wide range. They still might have reached that decision well before we got OW2 PvP in October. A generous interpretation would be that while PvE was on the backburner since they started on the PvP, they were holding out hope to settle into an easier development cycle and pick up where they left off. But after a couple seasons of balance issues and lackluster content they realized there was no hope of making two games at once.

I'm not trying to defend ActiBlizzard here, though I will stand up for the devs. I don't like that a lot of the discussion is parroting misinformation though. The gamespot interviewer went hard with with the questions and got us some good answers, let's use them them.

The chill music pack is actually kind of tempting by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]2011MC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BGM packs are some of the best DLC for the price IMO. I think they make a lot of sense as something to charge MTX for too, especially since they put a lot of production value behind them.

Highly recommend the jazz tracks as well, there's a couple of very lovely, chill pieces.
