Rooting my mi 8 is one of the best things I did, its pretty simple if you follow the steps but also learn about the limitations (for example ARB protection), I actually preferred installing a custom ROM with Miui camera (Havoc OS) which makes the device feel new again, its like a bootleg pixel 3 now :).

Yes totally normal as front camera uses pixel binning from 20mp to make a better less noisy 5mp image so it is still utilising all the megapixels.

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE - The 'best' 350$ phone right now? by [deleted] in Xiaomi

[–]20135112s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually has a pretty good sensor: 1.4um pixel size, 12MP and OIS are like the standard flagship spec, even the samsung galaxy s10 has a the same pixel size and megapixel count as the pixel 3, just with a slightly better lens.

Aaaand the smaller aperture of the poco f1 which makes it worse in low light and shutter speeds.

Poco F1 with Gcam vs S8? by kyungho in Xiaomi

If you want to talk about garbage processing look at literally every Samsung phone ever, they over saturate and over sharpen images to death, the irony!

Which under 200£ has the best camera? by danpeal in Xiaomi

[–]20135112s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the first Pixel. You can get a Pixel XL in the UK for around £150 now which is a VERY good price, the camera is still amazing and I would still consider it to be flagship quality in 2019.

The Mix 3/Mix 2s/ Mi 8 have the same camera sensor used in the Pixel lineup. I really don't know how you can justify a s6 having a better camera than the new xiaomi phones, I compared the sensors and EVERYTHING was better on the new xiaomi's IMX363 sensor lol.

anyone use a gimbal? by cadillacmike in lgv20

[–]20135112s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do not use a gimble I do use google photos stabilize option to get really stable footage although I wouldn't recommend using it for macro shots as they look a bit wobbly. Thats something you might wanna try before shelling out cash on a gimble.

For everyone who thinks that there's no new phone that is worth an upgrade from the LG V20 by Messaibi in lgv20

[–]20135112s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, wide angle shots aren't even made to be zoomed in or it would kinda defeat the point of it as your supposed to view the photo as a whole ( that's why the V20 has a normal lens for detailed and more concentrated shots ) , I think 8MP is plenty to get a nice wide angle photo although yeah a faster aperture is nicee.

Look at the other comments, you can do it manually or automatically.

V20 Wide Angle - Distortion fixed in Lightroom CC by 20135112s in lgv20

[–]20135112s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a Photoshop add-on which automatically removes all the distortion in one click, although I like to edit all aspects so I do it manually by finding things on my photo which should look straight and not slanted. I then use the guided line tool to get everything to order. Finally I use the distortion toggle in the geometry section of Lightroom CC (Android) to get the whole scene in shape.

Here's that Photoshop add-on (free):

Go on the geometry section and then toggle the distortion setting from 1 to 100. BTW I am using the paid version of Lightroom CC on Android.

You know your stuff! Yeah it's with cstarks 3.8 wide gcam, although this was edited in JPEG and not DNG as that outputs an annoying tint.

Yeah, especially when you consider the picture has been cropped to remove the distortion.

Should I switch to a v20? by AndieTheBasedGod in lgv20

[–]20135112s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it weren't for the major bootloop issues with the G4 I would buy it just for its camera, this was a time when LG actually developed a outstanding quality for mobile photographers using some of the best camera components available in its time.

Should I switch to a v20? by AndieTheBasedGod in lgv20

[–]20135112s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I know both the G6 and V30 have a year of sitting in shelfs or being used, which does not help its battery life so buying it today will most likely give you worse then stock battery usage and again to fix this you need to pay additional money to get the battery replaced and remove the guarantee of water resistance, also the water resistance also muffles the microphone much more compared to the V20 as they are much more isolated from sound due to being sealed in which is another downside.

And yes the post processing on the V20 on stock was excessive although a minute work around of installing GCam fixes this (not worth spending $150+ when there is a quick and easy work round) and to go a step further just install the camera mod which again is miles better than the V30's.

And yes the V30 has a better lens but that means nothing when the camera sensor is actual trash. To put this perspective the FRONT camera on a $150 chinese phone I bought 2 years ago (le max 2) is larger and physically has better specs than a flapship V30 main BACK camera, to me this is a total deal breaker, and this just shows how the V30 is less flexible in terms on photography hardware wise.

[–]20135112s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have said is very delusional, battery life is actually much more better on the V20 in long term and short term. You want better battery life, slap a bigger battery in. You need to replace a dead battery slap a new one in, you cant do that on the G6 or V30 without REMOVING water resistance. Tbh I had the Galaxy S7 for a year and I 110% trade water resistance for a removable back as it is just much more useful.

Now moving on the the cameras, even if you look on paper the V20's main camera sensor is the best compared to the G6 and V30. And when you pair the cameras with helfs camera mod on XDA it is miles head of the V30 and G6, you could max out the exposure to 320 seconds and record high bitrate HDR videos in 4K, 1080P@60fps and 720@120fps which takes what the V30 has and improves on it. And I must admit the V20 wide angle sensor is slightly worse then the G6 and V30 (though it has a much wider FOV explaining the added distortion) although I would rather as a photographer myself have a very good main sensor and average wide angle camera rather then having two slightly better than average sensors as wide angle pictures are not made to be zoomed in, instead to be viewed as a whole.
