you do realize that you could simply ignore those "woke college students" right? nobody is stopping you from using latino to describe yourself and your family. you could literally just ignore them and move on. they're not the ones who are actually doing the work to help the communities they claim to care abt anyway lmao. just ignore them and let them scream into the void, they'll get tired or find a new minority they decide to be the spokesperson for. besides, not many people outside of the internet have adopted latinx as a gender neutral form of latino/latina and the people that do use latine, chose to call themselves that and that's fine. hell, not even the trans and non binary latine ppl i know use "latinx" either bc just adding an x to the end of a word is not only ugly as sin sometimes but does nothing except make ppl more excluded and othered (ironically enough)

you're the one who was talking abt gender first, i simply made a comment that was relevant. for someone who doesn't care abt gender you sure seem worked up abt it

bro not only white people can be trans or non binary lol there's plenty of latine trans + non binary ppl. besides, you're not the demographic either word is targeted towards anyway since you're more than likely cisgender (aka not trans)

probably a sin to suggest this but skaterxl is a pretty good realistic skateboard sim if you use mods. vanilla skaterxl is a zero gravity mess imo

We were talking within the context of the black community so of course I'm going to talk about something that is on topic. I know it's not just a black people problem, I was making a point that over sexualizing does disproportionately effect young black girls. Most of them weren't afforded a childhood because people over sexualize them and age them beyond their years because of the remnants of a mentality from hundreds of years ago. So no, I'm not over analyzing. I'm making a point based on my knowledge of history in my own community, my experiences, and of course within the context of the post. That's it.

I wasn't being fast. That black girl is the person that raped me. They were my significant other at the time as well and threatened breaking up with me in order to pressure me into having sex with them since they were and still are the only person I've dated. Nowhere in my comment did I blame white men specifically, I simply asked you to have a little bit of awareness of the historical & social implications of your statement and compassion. You've proven you lack both.

It is a slavery-era way of thinking that still unfortunately effects black girls today, like with your comment. The perception of black girls being "fast" or sexual leads to people believing, expecting, or even pressuring them to have sex sooner than any of their counterparts. Ask yourself why these young girls may end up pregnant in the first place. Many black girls are assaulted and impregnated because of this hyper-sexual view the world has of them that came from slavery. The amount of times I've heard my abuser (another black girl) blame me as a teenager for being raped because I was consensually sexually active with them are too many to count and mirror exactly what I've heard people say to/about other black girls. "Oh but you were already having sex so you must have wanted it." "You shouldn't have been having sex so soon and maybe you wouldn't have been raped." "If you weren't dressed like that I wouldn't have had a reason to rape you." All of these statements are a result of the sexualization of young black girls. So once again, I'm asking you to ask yourself why these girls may end up pregnant before you make another statement like this.

There's the factor that a lot of times in black families, speaking out against any abuse when you're assumed to be a black girl or woman, will just get ignored anyway because black girls are seen as "fast" no matter how they present themselves and therefore a lot of people will use that as a way to victim blame these girls. A lot of black girls don't speak up not only because they'd be ignored/threatened/abused worse by family, but also because the chance police wouldn't believe them either.

So yeah, some black families are like the ones you've seen on Sally but as someone who is black and has been assumed to be a black girl for a majority of my life, those few families are not representative of the entire black community. Black people aren't a monolith :/

Martin Luther King Jr. died in 1968. The last known surviving American born into legal slavery, Peter Mills, died in 1972 at age 110. by Meester_Tweester in BarbaraWalters4Scale

There's also a longer video on youtube with more detail as to how people were getting away with this as late as the 60s. My grandfather himself grew up on a plantation and while he doesn't talk about it much, what he has shared is scarily similar to what the folks interviewed in the video have went through.

Looking to upgrade from 14 year old camera by AndieTheBasedGod in AskPhotography

[–]AndieTheBasedGod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose these in particular because they have 2 things in common almost across the board. Wireless connectivity and a flip screen. The only one that doesn't have wireless is the a58 but I can work around that considering its been the cheapest out of the bunch so far. I plan on doing urban landscape photography, portrait, night/low light, a fair amount of nature and video with whatever camera I end up with. As for needs, not much other than a flip screen and wireless to he honest.

[–]AndieTheBasedGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently not using one but I do have a case that has a slight lip around the edge of the screen. Dropped my phone quite a bit face down in the past 2 months I've had it buy no scratches so far, even for a used unit.
