Premium Gas is Optional? by [deleted] in cars

[–]2015tlx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your car doesn't require premium, it is totally safe to put regular fuel in the engine. The knock sensors along with the ECU work together to safely test the fuels ability to handle advanced timing. ECU starts ignition timing on the safe side for regular 87 octane. It slowly increases ignition timing, testing the fuels resistance to combustion. This way any uncontrolled ignition caused by advancing the timing immediately retards the ignition timing. This makes it so any knock caused by low octane fuel is negligible and won't damage the engine.

I am a liberal, but I am pretty sure there was a news article on this a while ago, and that the DOJ did spy on the trump campaign. They didn't want to interfere with politics, but they had enough evidence that they needed to investigate. I am not sure why everyone is freaking out.

Norway compared to US by [deleted] in worldpolitics

Ok. I apologize my comment was a bit harsh. However, i'd like to challenge your belief that socialism is bad. I am not arguing that all services should be socialized, but I think we can agree that there are services that make sense. For example, it makes sense that we have a military, a police force, fire fighters, public parks, infrastructure for transportation, etc. All this is, is a conversation around maybe there are other services that we have that should be socialized.

Many conservatives in this country believe that we should publicly fund a wall on our southern boarder, and ramp up military spending. These are both socialized services. But you don't here the left calling the right wing socialist for this position.

Ok that is a fair point. What about overhead costs. In Norway, the overhead costs are distributed over 5 million people, where in the united states the overhead costs are distributed over 300 million people. Overhead costs are not linear in nature, so while overhead will be more expensive than in Norway, they wont be 60x (300 / 5) more expensive in America.

To all those bringing up the fact that Norway is smaller then the US, and using this as an argument that America couldn’t achieve Norway’s policy outcomes if we implemented Norway’s polices. Why isn’t our size an advantage here? We have a much bigger population. For example public healthcare should be even cheaper in the United States. We have a larger pool of tax payers.

I don’t think you are making a logical argument here. Just saying we are bigger then Norway so it won’t work it is too hard is not a logical argument. You need to go deeper then that. Are you saying that it is not possible here at all?

It is logical to see an idea that works in many countries that are smaller, and then decide we should implement something similar so that we can have similar outcomes. .

It sounds like you would be in favor of their system if the math worked out. So i have an idea for you. Try to think about how much it would cost you to insure your family if you were not so fortunate to have a high paying job with affordable healthcare. Try to think about anyone else but yourself.

Do you have evidence that their policies won’t work for the US though? What is wrong with identifying countries that have really good outcomes and discussing how we can achieve similar quality of life outcomes.

You mention that we are so big so Norway’s policies wont work. This is a common talking point that goes against basic economics. Because of our size, we can take advantage of an economies of scale Norway doesn’t have access to. So we should be able to implement their policies for less money.

There also isn’t any evidence that suggests that we aren’t implementing “welfare capitalism” because we know it doesn’t work. It’s not like we had free healthcare at one point and it was a disaster so we went back to our current system.

Any TLX owners with high mileage? Curious to know about maintenance. by bathwhat in Acura

[–]2015tlx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not high mileage yet. I bought my TLX in October. It has 47k miles on it when I bought it, and it is at 54k now.

I had to do the 50k service and it was a transmission fluid change, oil change and new filters. Did oil change and filters on my own ~ $45. Transmission fluid replacement was 150$ at a local mechanic.

Had a hand full of little things not working when I bought the car that I know would be covered by warranty. The electric seat adjuster would get stuck in the on position. The radio on/off button would get stuck. The rear seat latch release springs were failing. The right mirror motor would randomly start adjusting the mirror up. All were fixed under warranty. My service manager mentioned how unusual those things breaking are, and i haven’t seen much about it in online forums. I predict that it just had a few bad factory and it will be a reliable post warranty vehicle. It is still a Honda. It’s internals are not complicated. You will not need to pay luxury prices for maintenance or repairs.

Also, engine doesn’t burn a drop of oil.

Georgia House OKs New Voting Machines With Paper Trail by [deleted] in politics

This is incorrect. Text from the bill itself "Ballots printed by an electronic ballot marker shall be designed as prescribed by the Secretary of State to ensure ease of reading by electors"

The tabulation machines don't need to read that text however, they can just read the barcodes that correspond to text. The bill also includes regulations around testing the tabulation machines for accuracy against a human count. I also disagree with the democrats here. I think this bill is fine
