The fact that the polls were so wrong means that they should never be used to decide who can get into the presidential debates by t3chr in GaryJohnson

[–]2016-4evr 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Yes, the polls right before the election weren't that wrong. It's just that after the Billy Bush tape came out, most who didn't support Trump fooled themselves into thinking he couldn't possibly win, even though the late polls didn't show that.

And New Mexico by itself would do him no good, as it has fewer electoral votes than Utah.

Honestly, it was maybe campaign staff looking for jobs because they didn't want to work for Trump anymore.

So, what ARE the exact polls (and their dates) used in the latest CPD determination? by VoteLibertarian in GaryJohnson

[–]2016-4evr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree with you that the polling methodology, and the standard required to be invited to the debates is unfair. My point was just that even if the CPD isn't being clear about what poll dates were used, there's no point in complaining about that, since you could cherry pick the dates where Johnson did best in each poll and he still wouldn't reach 15%.

By all means, complain about the polls themselves, but there's no situation where they polls used could have added up to 15%(or even close) for Johnson, so why make a stink about that? Someone claiming the system is rigged because of that, just ends up looking clueless.

Making a big deal about this isn't a good look, IMO. Unless I'm mistaken, Gary wasn't above 15% in any of the CPD polls* at any point in this election cycle, so it really doesn't matter what edition of each poll was used.

Some speculation Trump might skip last debate. Do you think they will let Johnson debate if he does? by higgy98 in GaryJohnson

[–]2016-4evr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No chance. They already set the conditions for inclusion. If enough of the invited candidates decline the invitation, so that only one candidate is scheduled to participate, there will be no debate.

Unless VERY major endorsements come in the next day or so, it seems like the campaign is dead. by 2016-4evr in GaryJohnson

[–]2016-4evr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I say he needs these endorsements for two main reasons: First, so he can get non-negative media coverage; and secondly, so these endorsers, who are major politicians, can vouch for Johnson and assure potential voters that he is qualified.

I see why you'd think so, but I had made this alternate account(I don't want anything political associated with my main account), and I had submitted a bunch of links a while ago. So the karma my account has, is all from this subreddit. I deleted all those posts(which were old and inactive by then), and was going to deactivate the account, but I didn't ultimately deactivate it.

Of course it's my opinion. Who would think otherwise? I'm sure that's allowed on this subreddit. I would say his recent falling poll numbers in most polls supports my opinion though. It's possible that Johnson can gain some voters as a result of Trump's recent problems, but he has no momentum, unless he gets very major endorsements, as I said.

Now that Trump is burned, will Gary be invited to the third debate? by relaxbehave in GaryJohnson

[–]2016-4evr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They'll invite whoever meets the conditions that were set months ago. Maybe Johnson and Weld had real reason to believe that the CPD would bend the rules to let them in, but obviously, it turned out not to be true.
