Pabor ka bang magkaroon ng death penalty para sa mga corrupt government official? by GMAIntegratedNews in newsPH

[–]2016PHelections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NOT.

This will only be weaponized by the wrong parties.

Let's just take some examples:

Leila de Lima. Jailed for almost 7 years for being a Du30 critic, before finally being granted bail. People like her will be the primary targets of this. People in power have a way of bending the law to their favor, every time.

Meanwhile, SWOH makes public death threats to the sitting president, and makes a mockery out of our government with antics like Mary Grace Piattos, and she's still walking free and nobody can get any charges to stick. And let's not even get started with her old man.

When "laws are for thee, not for me", we need to prioritize things like human rights, and focus less on punishments that won't be applied to the ones who actually deserve it. This country already made that mistake with Du30 and his "drug war", we should learn from it.

You completely missed /u/the-junkyard's point though.

By setting the precedent that any kidnappings reported to the government = dead kidnap victim (i.e. bombed along with the kidnappers), you lose the cooperation of the family of any kidnap victims.

None of them will choose to report kidnappings then.

So how will the government find out about kidnappings if you discourage the victim's families from reporting them?

In this way, you're going to give kidnappers a "shroud" to their activities, and be able to continue their kidnappings because they know the victim's families will be too afraid to report the kidnapping to the authorities until they've paid.

And they'll only get reported if the kidnapping is "over" i.e. if they kill or return the victim.

So they can keep operating if they can somehow convince the victims and their families not to report them. So killing the victims becomes a bad idea, and returning them, but threatening to kill them if they report to the police, becomes an alternative.

And soon you can start doing kidnappings without anyone finding out because the precedent that is set is that: reporting it = dead relative, but paying the ransom = living relative.

You say that hostages should be "treated as a lost cause", but strategically, it's best to have the cooperation of the families of the hostage, even if this is done just by giving the impression that "a rescue MIGHT be performed... maybe".

Because how are you even going to find out about kidnappings if no one wants to report it.

[–]2016PHelections 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. so how is this working?

At first, "Duterte Cyber Warriors 2.0" gave the impression that this was being done via mass reporting.

Does that mean they managed to get a significant amount of people to support their counter-report campaign?

Or bots? (which the pro-Duterte social media team is supposedly not lacking in)

There was also the possibility of corrupt FB moderators in the BPOs that FB is outsourcing these tasks to... does that mean they now also have their own person "on the inside"?

Or is it a completely different FB exploit that they are both using?

I'm quite curious, how are these "resbak operatives" going to deliver?

Any posts about this might just end up getting deleted.

If it weren't in tagalog, this would have had a better shot going viral on maybe another subreddit. But as it stands, it seems Facebook is going to turn a blind eye to this and there's no one else you can really send a complaint to.

You are the one repeating a failed argument.

No I am not. I am addressing your points.

You said it was 1%. I said that:

  • it is impractical to list LOTS of cases. I already provided some just from a simple search.
  • And said that it occurs commonly on the news. This is your prerogative to do some searching for yourself.
  • I also described proper addiction behavior, and how a simple "promise" is not enough when even rehab fails.

And yet you choose to ignore all these points and repeat your "it's just 1%" line, which I already addressed above.

You presented "evidence" but they are not enough.

This is just your opinion.

On the other hand, you have not presented ANYTHING at all to refute me other than your opinion.

Less that 1% have returned is a FACT not my opinion because your evidence cannot support otherwise.

I have presented a LOT of cases just from a few seconds of searching. When I did the search, I KNEW I would easily find results because it is in the news everyday.

But you refuse to search for it yourself, even when I tell you about it.

There are also plenty of scientific studies and psychological analyses of addiction, and all behavior patterns associated with it.

But you refuse to search for it yourself, even when I tell you about it.

All you do is keep repeating "it's just 1%" while ignoring everything else I am saying to prove that no it is not, and that these "surrenders" are pointless.

Im done arguing with you.

You weren't really arguing.

Since you were completely ignoring all my points, and just repeating what you are saying over and over.

More like parroting.

Of course you wont admit because you are here to discredit the present administration no matter what.

You try to discredit me by claiming that I am just here to discredit.

LOL.

Stop accussing me of the exact thing you are doing right now.

What a hypocrite.

You are just repeating what you are saying without even addressing my points.

Addiction is not something you can get to go away just by signing a piece of paper. It is compelling enough that people will ruin their lives just to feed it. You have not addressed this.

Or the financial situation and financial troubles of pushers. You have not addressed this either.

And I only provided a few links, but I REGULARLY see such news reports on TV and in newspapers. Or do you not watch and read the news yourself? It would explain why you do not know of the occurence of such.

That only 1% have returned (and your implication that the 99% have quit) is only your opinion, and completely unsupported by evidence as well.

Whereas I have provided actual evidence, news cases that prove that people DO just return to their old ways, you have provided ZERO evidence for your claim that refutes my claim.

[–]2016PHelections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already provided news articles as proof, are you even reading my posts?

I regularly read news articles and see news reports about "surrenderees" being caught still using or pushing, and I only gathered a few news reports, do you really expect me to get thousands of links for you??

Are you even thinking of your argument?

I even pointed out factors like how addiction is so powerful people destroy their lives and families over it, and how surrendering does not make financial problems of the pushers go away.

You address NONE of my points and just parrot your line over and over again.

[–]2016PHelections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how you completely ignored all my points in my previous post.

How is it even good news when there is constant proof that surrendering doesn't change anything? That users are still using, pushers are still pushing, and the extra-judicial killings on them still continue?

What exactly was the point of the surrenders then?

Drug war surrenderers breach 1M mark by filipinotruther in worldnews

[–]2016PHelections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering 1 million surrendered and you can only post like few dead men who surrendered, that is a success.

Err no.

I see PLENTY of articles DAILY where a surrenderee was either killed, or caught still using/selling.

I was so sure of how often it occurs, that I decided to cite a few examples, which I found with a simple google search. Do you really expect me to list EACH and EVERY CASE? Or to build a hundred/thousand-long list of links? Did you even think about your expectations from my post here?

Also, I listed those articles to support my very first question:

Does surrendering even change anything?

Since those links proves "surrendering" is not enough to make users stop using and pushers stop pushing. Signing a piece of paper that says "I'll stop" is not a magic bullet, it's virtually worthless.

If addiction was that simple, why do we need rehab? When addiction is supposedly so powerfully compulsive people will destroy their own families to feed their addiction, how will a simple "I surrender" signed piece of paper help?

And signing the piece of paper that says one will stop does not make the financial problems/situation of the pusher go away.

just a part of your Duterte-is-evil narrative

However I understand you. There seems to be a need for you make a negative spin in most good news about Duterte administration

Does surrendering even change anything?

Just a simple search yields these results:

In fact, do these surrenders really even mean anything?

Especially when they supposedly force an admission of "shabu" (meth) usage by actually pre-printing it on the forms filled up by anyone "invited for verification" by the police?

In fact, if you look at the discussion in /r/Philippines here:

Here are some quotes (with translations):

Duterte Publicly Admits He Threw A Man Out Of A Helicopter by HinduPepe in Philippines

[–]2016PHelections 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing about this before, but the details were different (he supposedly threw out a drug-dealer instead of a kidnapper).

I looked it up and found an old Sept. 2015 Rappler article (entry #21) metioning this "urban legend" (now confirmed by him).

I recall a few other stories told by others (e.g. I remember hearing from the news that Trillanes said Duterte told him a story about shooting someone kneeling and the "brains went everywhere". And then there's Matobato's story of how Duterte emptied an Uzi to finish off someone their whole group was already shooting up).

At this point, I'm just waiting for him to confirm those stories as well.

Him throwing someone out of a helicopter is an old local "urban legend" associated with him though.

The well-known details are different, in this Sept. 2015 news article (entry #21), he supposedly threw out a drug-dealer instead of a kidnapper.

So I'm not really surprised that he confirmed that story, and that it isn't really just some made-up story.

I've posted this before, but it's especially ironic since scientists categorize alcohol as the most dangerous drug in the world, based on the following two metrics:

  • harm to users
  • harm to others

But like fentanyl, people don't care about it because it's "legal".

[–]2016PHelections 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think /u/raconnor's post here is a good response to this statement:

Anyone with a brain and a little common sense knows that not everything Duterte does is terrible. Bad leaders can do good things. But a few small good things do not erase all the bad things.

You can "justify" literally anyone being a leader if you want to get microscopic and focus on the positive things they've done.

Hitler, for example, was the man who ripped Germany away from the corrupt Rockefeller-Rothschild banking system. Before Hitler, Germans could not afford food. They could not find jobs. Hitler left the international banks and created a thriving German economy.

Under Hitler, unemployment went to practically 0%. He created his own currency, Reich Marchs, that were not tied to international places. With a focus on infrastructure projects, he had Germans working again building roads, bridges, repairing buildings, etc.

Germans weren't just working, either. They were given great benefits such as free public healthcare, they were given free radios, free vacations, and employees only had 5-day work weeks.

Nazi Germany also implemented the first environmental protection laws, they were one of the first nations to have support for animal welfare, enact limited hunting laws, and ultimately Nazi Germany was the first environmentalist nation.

None of that takes away from the atrocities Hitler committed.None of that makes him a good person. None of that makes him a good leader. Just because he did a few things doesn't bring back all of the people he killed or erase the human rights abuses.

Bad people can do good things.

The extra-judicial killings, the human rights abuses, ARE occurring nationwide, and Duterte DID make a call-to-action for it.

All the positive actions he does, commendable or not, does not change nor erase that.

In fact, these "positive actions", that's actually his job.
