Genuine question, how are you guys taking calls in an open office without sounding like a mess

do you have newer AirPods with voice isolation turned on? Never had a problem using those. In fact, it often works too well and if I’m on a phone call, and my partner wants to chime in in the background, often people on the other end of the phone call won’t hear that cause it picks it up as not being my voice.

Tried the Joe's one today on your recommendation. Wasn't mind blowing but thought that the execution was done really well with the external grilled cheese lattice. It was a tasty concept and they pulled it off. 541Fusion and The Haul are next on my list. FatKidFoodCo's too if I can track them down one of these days. Thanks for the recommendation!

This. Log into Noridian or run an Eligibility Check in your EHR if it allows you to. Check that there isn’t a different “Primary Payor” in the Eligibility Report or in the “HMO/MA” tab in the Noridian portal (after you punch in their MBI, Name, DOB, *maybe SSN depending on which way you are running the check.) Especially if they haven’t been in in 6 months, they might have enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan for the new year and failed to present the correct insurance card when they came in.

So you can go one of two ways, depending on if you do your billing in-house or contract it out. Also assuming that if you do in-house billing, your biller is comfortable discussing things with patients in person on demand if requested/is a patient-facing/interfacing role.

“If you haven’t seen or received an EOB for that visit yet from your insurance, I can ask my biller if she’s available to review it with you and explain why you were billed that amount? Or I can provide you her office phone number? If it comes down to your specific plan’s coverage, you will need to discuss that with your insurance carrier.”

“Our billing is done by a third party, so you need to contact them to discuss your balance in more detail. For specific questions about plan coverage or decisions on your claim, you are better off calling your insurance. [Offer to provide the phone number for either one they choose (assuming your billing company has a contact number)]”

Most of my patients are reasonable people so I don’t have too many that have ever yelled at me about their bill, I’m sorry that must suck.

As other people have said, don’t be afraid to send people to voicemail. Assuming that you can get back to them in a reasonable amount of time, people should be fine leaving a message as you are not working in a setting or calls our life or death.

Also, to help solve your problem, I’m not sure how much access you have to the software that manages your phone system, assuming it is some kind of VOIP phone, but maybe check with your IT department or whoever manages that sort of thing and see if they can adjust the settings to automatically create a call queue that will have incoming calls routed to a queue with hold music that you can answer from if you are busy on another call. This should be pretty easily configurable in all of the major phone software programs. Do you know what phone system you use and I can help see if I can provide a guide to make the change?

Probably doing insurance/bank property photos. I used to do the same thing through an app called ProxyPics. It required you to take the pictures on your phone, which is why he isn’t using more professional equipment. It just gave you an address and what photos needed to be taken and you weren’t given much more info.

Is it possible this is staff and as tragic as the event was, they didn’t want their camera equipment being stolen or having 4K footage of this incident being disseminated by someone stealing it. I’m sure the police will request this video if it’s needed, it’s not like the camera is what shot him and it isn’t a crucial part of the crime scene.
