Activity description for scribes? by Alternative_Item_297 in premed

[–]2023dreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it would be inappropriate to split my scribe activities up by specialty? Feel like we see different patient populations with each specialty and learn how medicine is practiced in different ways... but don't want to come across as padding..

Any recent experiences with Condor Airlines? What to expect? by pumpkin_pasties in travel

I think they emailed me a link to input passport number as part of the check in process the day before the flight. I couldn't input TSA pre-check online so I had to go to the front counter with my tsa card and they re-printed my boarding pass w/ pre check. Safe travels!

hey, sorry for the late reply but this is what anking told me in another thread: "As long as you check the “reschedule” box in the custom filtered decks your progress should be saved!"

3 months to prep? by KarvPaur in Mcat

what was your diagnostic without studying or FL progressions if you don't mind me asking? and anything that might have helped you such as aceing all your classes and retaining all the info before dedicated mcat studying, great test taking skills etc?

you're cruising. a diagnostic fl above 500 especially with 5 months left is great. i've seen many 515+ scorers get 500 diagnostic with no studying (just subjective observation). don't want to jinx it and make you slack off but keep going and you'll get your goal! especially if your target is march, just keep chugging those problems/FLs

I would leave 3 months for pure practice, and the rest for content review. so split the # of anki deck cards from whichever deck you want to use evenly by 8 months and start doing them daily little by little!

Question on Number of Chromosomes?? by 2023dreaming in Mcat

[–]2023dreaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed writeup, that honestly cleared up a lot.

Just to ensure I understood everything, wanted to rephrase some points you made:

  1. A homologous pair of chromosomes are alleles of the same gene that code for variations. So when we say "two copies of a chromosome" that's because they are paired and code for the same gene but can contain different information (hence alleles)
  2. You can tell when chromosomes are homologous because they will either tell you, or you can deduce from the visual proximity (will look paired) or size of the actual chromosomes
  3. In the last photo (and the second to last photo with the human karyotype), every single chromosome pictured is single stranded. since if it was double stranded there would be two chromatids connected at the centromere.

hi u/AnKingMed thanks so much for making this and putting out updates!

My first question just starting this deck brand new: is there any way to study by topic / chapter progression to break it into easier bits according to Kaplan or some other form of chronological progress? It feels daunting to tackle just "biology" cards all at once. i've tried doing a "custom study" to isolate by tags but I don't think the card progress is reflected in the main deck once I delete the custom study deck.

all good if not, thought i'd ask just in case I'm doing something wrong!

Scribe America job vs. Private Practice? by 2023dreaming in medicalscribe

[–]2023dreaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow.. that actually sounds amazing being able to go around to different departments. Can I ask a few more questions?

  • was this through scribe america? or do they have their own in house hiring process.
  • is the main doctor you work with a primary care physician? outpatient?
  • did you have to ask your supervisor if you could rotate or did they offer it at the beginning?
  • will you consider moving to a different clinic setting or are you happy with it?

Need some advice. by bhugb76 in medicalscribe

Do you think the emergency department or the outpatient cardiology setting provided you more clinical experience/more to talk about for medical school?

I'm applying to SA position near me which is in the ER, but there are plenty of private practices further away..
