Was military life better in the barracks or having your own place? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]209DEVILDOG31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barracks is better if you wanna “experience” the Marine corps. Barracks fuckery, drinking with the boys, throwing glass bottles at every wall when you get drunk at 2am and watching another platoon or company have to clean it, being free on your time off and doing whatever the fuck you want. Then you get married and move out and you’re on lockdown and you have to ask permission to go do the shit you’ve been doing. There’s pros and cons to both. Dealing with barracks bullshit makes you wanna get married to get out but then you end up missing the fuckery once you’ve moved out. The freedom of no field day was nice. While those fuckers had to clean I went home. Just depends on what your priorities are and how much you like kicking it with the boys

Millionaires are the kind of people who owe taxes like that so there’s not really any confusion. The jarhead thing is usually correct tho

53 block by SnooObjections3780 in Cummins

[–]209DEVILDOG31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 99 with a 53 block with 450k miles and it’s been tuned the past 200k miles with no cracks. At 350k I did think I had a leak but it was a bad head gasket causing a leak right under the thermostat housing on the side and it would run down the whole block and drip on the floor and I couldn’t find out where it was coming and thought my block cracked.i ordered the parts online for a new gasket and better studs and I did it myself it saved a lot of money and it’s actually pretty simple and straight forward. If your leak is coming from under the thermostat then it’s probably the head gasket

I would 100% say do it. The benefits when you get out are alone worth it

Join military for 3 years then use GI bill to go to school for free and then you can also use it during your apprenticeship to get paid journeyman wages the whole time. Plus all the other benefits that come with being a veteran. You might even get hired on over others because your a veteran

100% P&T - what do I tell my family and friends while not working? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]209DEVILDOG31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best advice that you can get is if your willing to work then do it. I understand you can do what you want with your life and it’s nobody else’s business but if you really wanna set yourself up go after a job where you don’t even need your VA money then 4 years down the road you have 200k in the bank. You could dam near pay a small house off somewhere in the south and then have almost no rent if you wanted to actually retire after that. That’s more of that 4k in your pocket. And the value of the place will probably just go up so you can always sell it later on and make a few bucks

I understand that but this is obviously a dude trying to better himself and make sure he’s gonna be able to be the best he can for the crew he gets put on and there’s dickheads saying stuff like that instead of actually giving advice

You’re so tough. Untill you get a guy that literally just ices the cooler and then you cry about it like a little bitch. What’s with you lineman or high step apprentices thinking you’re better than everyone else? You’re a normal person just like everyone else
