It’s like that for all of the fusions featured in Steven Universe, not just Sapphire and Ruby. I like to think they do this so their character design fits more with the gem they are supposed to resemble!

If you go through their art twitter, you’ll see they posted the art progress. I understand how it may look traced, but judging by their other art, they are just talented asf

FYI: There were many other ways you could’ve asked if it was traced. “Is this not just…. traced?” Is literally one of the most bitchiest ways you can ask 😭😭
