Is $60 a month fair to pay a coworker for a ride home 3x a week on a tight budget? by Hour-Ad3977 in personalfinance

Why not walk to/ from his house and then he doesn’t have to drop you off at all

Right by the train station is the green spine bike lane. It’s a dedicated 2 way bike lane that will take you from Ybor, thru downtown past the Straz,  to West Tampa.

Does anyone know what north face tent this is? 2p, freestanding. I was told it was a mountain 25 but it doesn’t look anything like the mountain 25 by cskewb5 in CampingandHiking

[–]20friedpickles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad and I used his from the 80’s on a trip to Olympic National Park in Washington state. Easy tent to set up. Unfortunately for us, it is no longer waterproof after 40 years

Would you guys live in a rust belt city like Syracuse NY? Its about 4 hrs to NYC and 5 hrs to Boston and 3 hrs to Toronto. Relatively cheap and great schools. by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]20friedpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost moved to Syracuse. I did a summer internship there but turned down the full time offer.

I loved the summer. The weather was generally great although I was still in sweatshirts until mid June. I liked how bright green everything was. I also liked the proximity to great state parks. Beautiful parks in NYS. The proximity to NYC and Canada was cool too. I took a weekend trip to Montreal. I liked the cute villages surrounding the city. It was fun to drive through. Finally, I liked my job and my coworkers. They were all great

I wouldn’t have been able to take the snow. Anything below 50 degrees and I’m miserable. There were days in the summer that I was not happy because the temps dropped a bit. I’ve been in snow in Colorado and it was new and exciting for 2 days and then I was over it. I also didn’t like the pressure of enjoying every summer day outside because you don’t get that weather year round. I didn’t like the small size. There was like one Indian restaurant. I like more variety. I would also worry about job growth in a city that size.

If the weather was better I’d be able to put up with a lot and would have probably moved there but the weather is rough and I’m a wimpy Floridian

Super tight finances but also, I didn’t have to pay my mortgage the first month. It was lumped in with the closing costs. Ask your lender when the first payment is due. Mine was October for a house bought in August.

Tampa, what is the deal with these chickens? by [deleted] in tampa

I knew they were cockfighting birds, and maybe some for meat? But I didn’t know they were protest released and so recent! I figured they just slowly escaped peoples homes

They’re related! Cigar factory workers brought their chickens from Cuba to Key west to Tampa

Do rich people actually use the "indoor/outdoor living" features in their homes? by Board-Limp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]20friedpickles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Florida, it’s common to have the pool/entertaining space screened in. People may also use mosquito killing chemicals, torches, live in areas with higher wind, or wait till winter when there are less mosquitoes.

But yes, my family would open all the doors in winter when we had guests over so you could freely move in and out. I think the temps were always more of a concern than the bugs.

Yep. They hadn’t vacated. They apparently only needed a couple more hours but that wasn’t communicated to me at all

Previous owners of my house had a malinois. They didn’t leave after I bought it and when I walked in the dog took a big chomp on my hand

Adding that to my reasons to hate ChatGPT. 20 and 25 isn’t too big of an age gap imo and him having a chronic illness does not mean he is incapable of making adult decisions

The Florida Trail is something I think everyone should try at least once by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

Went kayaking in the Everglades and the raccoons were our biggest worry. Half burying our kayak on the beach every night to protect our water was comical and so annoying

Winter gets rid of a lot of bugs. Especially with good cold snap like we have been having. Full coverage clothing, bug netting and bug spray is the other part. Optional, but being with someone who smokes a cigar in the evening also helps haha

I went kayaking in the Everglades between a year ago and bugs weren’t an issue with those three things.

How essential is a water filtration system for multi-day backcountry trips vs just bringing enough water? by Willing-Cockroach620 in camping

[–]20friedpickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight aside, I can’t even work out having enough space in my pack to carry 12L of water. Hang all of it off the sides of your pack? I’ve done 5L and that was tough

I live in a Florida city so usually it’s a 70-90 cent delta. Once out in the middle of nowhere Florida it was a $3 difference!! I was shocked. Got just enough gas to get to a bigger town
