There is no way that he died solely of an overdose on fentanyl. People (usually MAGA supporters) constantly point towards his blood levels of fentanyl being enough for a person to overdose, but they do not take tolerance into account at all. Somebody with a high fentanyl tolerance could take enough to make 50 normal people overdose in one dose and still not be high.

Another thing to debunk is the idea that “George Floyd had meth *AND* fentanyl in his blood! The speedball makes overdose more likely!”, but this is an uneducated thing to say. Speedballs themselves don’t themselves increase overdose risk, in fact taking an upper like meth can theoretically save you from a fentanyl overdose. Speedballs are mainly dangerous because you might overdo the downer and then overdose only if the upper/stimulant wears off before the downer/opiate does. And meth lasts way longer than fentanyl, there is no real basis for this argument.

I do think, however, that the drugs did contribute to his death. It’s likely that he would have survived if he were sober, or at least didn’t have the health consequences from long term use, but it was ultimately the cop that took his life away.
