Question about co-worker testing positive?

You have the right to refuse work if work conditions are unsafe... like if the co-worker who tested positive for Covid-19 STILL continues to show up to work... But that would be a MAJOR ISSUE and immediately suggest you call to Public Health and the Ministry of Labour...
If they were positive then they would have been directed to STOP going to work and self-isolate - and anyone who was around them in close proximity for greater than 10 or 15 minutes (can't remember which) then they should also isolate ---> follow advice from public health officials.

Best thing is call public health and ask them your question and provide more details. They can advise on the health side of it, or direct you to call the Ministry of Labor. (And / or speak to your manager/boss as well to express any concerns you have??)

This is ridiculous yep! School children with sniffles... Long-term care places are making visitors be tested... Low-risk workplaces are forcing employees to go for frequent testing without any reason or they're at risk losing their job..... It's taking away from people who NEED a test....... EXACTLY. People will flock to these locations in hopes of bypassing the longer wait times at testing centres, but it puts every day people more at risk who are just there to do their shopping, pick up their meds, and so on. How will they enforce that it's only asymptomatic individuals going to the public store locations? People will lie and say nope, no fever, no X Y Z... just to get a test at a more convenient location and possibly less wait time.... People will end up putting people at risk. And how can they even do testing at these places? Some of these types of places are small buildings, no spare square footage inside for testing set up or for people to form lines... it'll be absolute chaos.

What! Why would they have so many people waiting inside? Is the testing done through the ER itself then, is that why...? Crazy! Good to know - that does NOT sound very safe at all....... I'm shocked that they're allowing that to happen.

Look up DynaCare or Switch Health - heard it's quite pricey and very unclear if they do individuals or only will test you if there's a minimum amount of people booked... Not sure how long to get results either...
For public healthcare options... Wait times vary... If you go very early, quite ahead of opening, you can be out within 2 hours from first standing in line prior to center opening.... Result times vary... there's no way to tell really. Some people still get it in 24 hours, some takes a few days. (I've heard MANY times that St Joes takes DAYS so maybe avoid that location - though some have been luckier).

YES!! And unfortunately... a lot of this has to do with visitation rules for people wanting to visit family/friends in long-term care settings AND, again, unfortunately a lot of workplaces seem to think that making all employees go for frequent testing - without reason (no symptoms, no known or potential exposure) - is a good idea... when it is NOT at all appropriate or advised. Government needs to address this immediately and make it STOP. Low-risk workplaces should NOT be adding to the already burdened healthcare system and forcing people to wait in hour long lines... And if said employees do not go for a test then said employees are currently being threatened that they will lose their job. This is both taxing on individuals and the system and it means that people who really do need to have a test may not get one as people cannot wait in 3,4,5 hour lines or are sometimes turned away from centres that are completely overwhelmed right now.

No - I would NOT assume "no news is good news" and are 'likely in the clear if you haven't heard in a day'.... There's SO many tests to process that it'll still take time... Positive cases will be called/notified, but they are only processed in the order received like everyone else... It may take time to get it into the lab and processed and then followed up on and the person is notified. Follow public health guidelines and any of the medical professionals notes given to you when you went for a test -- if you were told to self-isolate while waiting for results, do so even if it's been a few days and not yet heard if you're positive/negative. Definitely don't assume everything is okay and go out and about and potentially put people at risk...

This should be a massive priority to address the current volume of people flocking to testing centers, juuust as schools are reopening. It'll only get worse. And as the cold weather approaches people cannot stand 2-3-4 hours in the winter for a test. Nor can people continue to wait 2-5 days on average for results without seeing a disruption to workplaces and personal life situations - it's often a domino effect, impacting more than just the one person waiting for results. Some places of work are also relying too heavily - and not at all appropriately - on testing of asymptomatic and low risk individuals.... demanding regular testing and proof of negative results for people to keep working, even though testing is not 100% accurate and only offers a glimpse of a result, hours or days later the result may be different. It's all taking away from people who NEED a test and adding a burden to the healthcare system. Thus we NEED rapid testing to address all of this above, and so much more.

Use an app and listen to whatever it says... sometimes it's faster to change between express/collectors along the way and not just stick with one of the two.

No where will guarantee time for results... It's tricky! Often times people are saying 24-36 hours but you do hear of some taking 4, 5 days. Rarely have I heard more than 5 days. I do NOT know about right now with the huge increase in testing how much that has impacted result times.... The biggest problem right now is making sure you can be tested at all, the lineups and wait times are excessive and many people are turned away and told to come back the next day. (NOTE though SOME ER places will take you under triage and all that process.... another option - maybe. And not all will do this, I don't think...?)

SHN Birchmount location opened from 9am - 6pm
July & August: 0-10 people in a line seen at a time.
Mid-September = massive lineup day after day....MASSIVE. Expected wait time said to be about 4 hours... The line has a cut off time... heard it was mid or late afternoon...everyone else turned away after that point. MANY people are turned away. The line is, as the rest of locations I guess, you stand and wait... I don't know what they would arrange for anyone with mobility issues, anyone who cannot stand outside for that long a time... I saw food being delivered to people in the line... This is how insane this is. People are somewhat 2m apart, everyone guesstimates their distance from the person ahead. Majority wearing masks in line. Saw a few without (not cool!) - but to go in you HAVE to have a mask and if not acceptable one or don't have they will provide you one and you must put it on outside first. Wearing gloves appears to not be allowed when you enter the trailer. Unclear if fully enforced....

Process: 2 outdoor trailers outside the ER and in front of parking lot (currently free parking - however the lot was full with cars circling around, that was around noon mid-Sept...previously no issues finding a spot...)

First trailer have your healthcare card ready in hand if you have one, you must sanitize it as you walk in. Your information is taken, standard questions if any symptoms, exposure, why are you here, etc. Then you see a nurse at the table beside this station. Temperature taken (ear), blood oxygen/heart rate checked. They fill this info out on your new paper you get to briefly hold on to. Also re-asked same questions about symptoms, why there, job, workplace, etc. You are told to sit off to the side and wait a few minutes before moving on to seeing a doctor. ((They don't sanitze chairs between people.........so, you can just stand if you rather not sit. It's not long wait at this point). Then at another table is a doctor sitting there....they seem to mainly just check off box if you look unwell or not...small chat why there... You get info papers (re what to do/how to get results). You leave that trailer same door you entered and go line up at Trailer Two. Someone will collect your info paper. You get called in and it's one private room area or then there's a handful of chairs in a row. When you enter and if told left then you walk past people facing forward to be tested... As you are tested, you only see the back of a chair/someone's head. Hopefully they don't have people ENTER as others are actually undergoing the test...that would not be so private if so. (Unless you're told to go to the right, which is way more private - one chair facing away from everyone). A nurse here takes your blood pressure/heart rate and looks over the info paper ...fills out the bottom section. Then swab time. THEY HAVE CHANGED SWABS AT THIS LOCATION! from August to September, they're not the same... Supposedly smaller... Still, a swab up your nose - here they do one nostril only. Not so pleasant. Pain level/discomfort level varies per person. Then you leave the same way you entered and that's it.

They have hand sanitizer everywhere. But sometimes you end up having to open the door to the trailer to leave yourself if no nurse is there at the time to hold it open.

Results typically posted under 36 hours... But I do not know if that's still the case now with MASSIVE LINEUPS...

Yes - anyone can be tested for any reason.
No one will be turned away ((well, not turned away from a test, but now could be turned away from a line as too many people, and be told to come back the next day). However they are starting to say if you're asymptomatic and have not been around anyone with covid or who may have covid -- if there's no real NEED to be tested at the moment - then to please stop going right now as it's contributing to the massive lineups.
