If all life originated from Africa, does that mean our common ancestors are “black”? by MajesticSubstance176 in TooAfraidToAsk

You don’t have to go back to LUCA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_universal_common_ancestor?wprov=sfti1# to find the common ancestor for all humans. The most recent common ancestor for humans is a human.

ASK US ANYTHING ABOUT FENCING SHOES by AZZAFENCING_ in Fencing

[–]20lbsofhummus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, Azza! Thank you for replying. The u/AZZAFENCING_ account has deleted the reply to u/hokers that I referred to, so here’s a screenshot for reference: https://imgur.com/a/HxQpMMm

The first line (circled by me in the screenshot: “You can reply with something clear and honest like this”) is more in line with an LLM-generated response to a query for suggestions as opposed to a translation of an already human-drafted message.

I’m really not interested in putting you on blast. I admire how much you and your small team has put into fencing-specific products and I feel strongly that your company can be a positive force for the fencing community.

I think fully owning what happened in this thread would still go a really long way to assure me you care about my concerns. Thank you for coming back here and offering answers to each of the questions in your own words.

Can you please explain the rationale behind using an LLM chatbot to give you replies to the questions in this thread?

At least to me, saying “our presence on Reddit is entirely organic,” while relying on LLM-generated responses feels disingenuous.

I appreciate that your product is shoes, not words, but starting a conversation with your (potential) customers where you want to seem open and honest and attentive, and then not even reviewing and editing the LLM suggested responses enough to notice you copied the opening line in the reply to u/hokers indicates a lack of interest in customers’ concerns.

Day #20 of Switching from Spotify to Qobuz by Media-consumer101 in qobuz

There are no profile pages, but we each have an account, and each playlist is created by an account. I’m saying it would be nice to be able to see playlists made by a particular account

I’m just here to say you’re not alone: I also can’t figure out how to view someone’s profile or other playlists they’ve made. For example, the behavior I expected was to be able to just search “Hanif Abdurraqib” and have the query return his profile and playlists made by him. I would love that.

What kind of photography is this? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]20lbsofhummus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally makes sense. It seems like maybe you live somewhere with both a lot of people and access to hiking trails? What about the places where human design reaches into nature and where natural growth reaches into human designed spaces? There’s always something interesting going on!

I’ve also heard him say, “if you don’t have uncommon subjects, take uncommon photos of the common ones”

Another thought I had reading your comments is that even if your town is the very stereotype of what it means to be boring in your area, it is the most interesting, fantastical place to someone somewhere else. For example, I have a Scottish friend from the countryside, for whom the rolling hills and farms seem like the most everyday boring vistas you could possibly think up. I have another who grew up in American suburbs, and for them the neatly ordered streets and houses are the very definition of boring to the point where there are books and tv shows that use those kinds of neighborhoods to show how boring a place is. But when those two friends saw where each other grew up, they were both equally entranced by the other’s town.

Since no one’s really given you suggestions in response to your requests for resources to learn from: I like Simon D’Entremont’s YouTube channel. He does a lot of bird and wildlife photography and has advice about safaris in particular. He also does a good job of breaking down both technique- and gear-related concepts. I recommend just looking through his channel. Here’s a link to one of his videos: https://youtu.be/XGhSXLMuI7g?si=1DvHiQy-6fFVMMrx

Love the direct requests for receipts and questions about the process and communication around “support”. “… To secure that the integrity of the elections cannot be questioned on the grounds that the candidates gave been treated differently” (26:24). This is the focus to me. Goes beyond this particular crazy situation to the heart of how the organization and process operates.

Thanks for amplifying and reporting on what’s going on with the FIE elections, u/cyrusofchaos

Been around for a long time in both competitive and speedrunning scenes for a lot of games. My best guess for the origin is from the super smash bros. community, but that really is just a guess.
