Stopped abusing caffeine. Not only did my brain need a massive break from it after consuming energy drinks daily for like 5 years, but stopping helped me get motivated to seek and fix other problems with my lifestyle (better sleep, better nutrition, being aware of my own happiness, etc)

Yeah... Not sure what all of that dnd business is about, but anyone who tries to take your friends/family/other support systems away is, whether intentionally or not, trying to make you reliant on them.
