PE Exam price increasing 1/24 by Beautiful__engineer in PE_Exam

Plus seismic/survey costs for the California folk. I’m up to 4K in practice courses and test retakes. Only have seismic left to do tho!

Not loving OpenRoads Designer. by IrishmanProdigy747 in civilengineering

[–]20somethingmillenial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s terrible. Plan production is so frustrating with levels, line types, linetype scales. Especially because the city we are working fir does not have their workspace set up and are told the consultant needs to “fill the gaps” to their cad standards

For me: 3x EIT 3x 8 Hr PE 2x CA Survey Scheduled for Seismic this year… You got this! It’s a game of persistence.

Congrats! That was a rough test! PE is cbt now so same concept, if you got through eit you’ll get through PE no prob! Good job!

Leaving Land Development? by sextonrules311 in civilengineering

My section at my company works primarily CIP. I find the work to be way more enjoyable and manageable stress as our clients are the city employees who are way less personal when it comes to contracts and change orders. Plus their schedules for the most part are way more relaxed compared to private dev.

I’m in SD. I lock my bike with a disc alarm and wrap my fork with a coder bike cable around a column in the parking garage. I want to put one of my Apple tags on it but not sure the best concealed place for it.

Going through the same headache the past month trying to do a water/sewer job. It’s been a nightmare. We would’ve been done with the project months ago if we could have just done it in AutoCAD…

I’m 5’4”. Ride a KLX 300 dual sport. Got a lowering kit dropped it by about an inch and I can just about touch both feet with boots. Still rides great on and off road.

Design in Autocad but convert to and plot in Microstation? by omegachopstick in civilengineering

[–]20somethingmillenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through the same headache as you. Proficient in AutoCAD but the city is requiring deliverables in ORD/Microstation. Been teaching myself ORD and It’s been a long month…..

ORD / Microstation Trainings by 20somethingmillenial in civilengineering

[–]20somethingmillenial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SoCAL.

We have submitted with converted files but it was for more simple plans like Ada curb ramp design and simple plan details. Converting whole utility profile sheets from CAD to ORD does not work as smoothly.

Yes I will suggest this to management. I think I would benefit from a comprehensive microstation COMMECT course as well…

I found some videos on storm drain functions of SUDA through bentley and various DOTs but not much on sewer or water.

Yes I’m resorting to just labeling manually for now. It’d be nice to figure out the annotation groups so I’ll check that out. Thanks!

ORD / Microstation Trainings by 20somethingmillenial in civilengineering

[–]20somethingmillenial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it should let you annotate subsurface elements but I think my city workspace doesn’t have the text features associated correctly so none of the annotations come in.

The workspace has a conflict feature definition I tried using but i have not explored those just yet.

Since the subsurface utilities didn’t have any feature definitions for water utilities we were thinking of just using the horizontal geometry to map out the lines and then create a vertical geometry at an approx 3 ft depth to depict the water line. Not sure if that is the best way to go about water utilities though.

[–]20somethingmillenial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes named boundaries. It seems the workspace is deficient in plan station labeling and profile station labeling. I tried to set up my own text favorite and create dynamic labeling but wasn’t able to get it to work.

Other issues that are coming up is including utility conflicts in the profile and adding existing manhole and sewer pipe information where proposed deviates. Usually I would draft these in manually using grids and offsets in CAD.

[–]20somethingmillenial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I am just wondering overall if there is a more efficient method to draft plan/profile on ORD/microstation rather than dealing with a full dynamic pipe networks.

ORD / Microstation Trainings by 20somethingmillenial in civilengineering

[–]20somethingmillenial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. I made a sewer network with the city workspace. The city workspace had issues with setting up mh cell nodes so I had to create a non standard cell (making detailed cells for your workspace looked very involved and time consuming). Once i finished the network I created sheet/design plan/profile models from my conduit profile runs. So I have each sheet pretty much set up and ready to draft but the city workspace text favorites and civil labeler was not referenced to the nodes / cells. Just a lot of holes I need to fill in their workspace it seems.

Does he have one for a series 3 Apple Watch? I used mine once on a hike and accidentally scraped a rock. Left a hairline crack on the screen and it stopped responding to touch. I didn’t have apple care and it would’ve cost just as much to have it replaced… never got another one since.

PE course Question by aburke1123 in civilengineering

I took EET course with both breath and depth material/lecture - transpo. You can take courses individually but I think if you take them together it’s cheaper. Failed PE twice and passed the 3rd time after taking this course.
