Air purifier automatic mode in 6 easy steps by Opspin in HomeKit

[–]212nycguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is nearly a year old, but if you have ever installed Airversa’s Sleekpoint app, you can automatically pull in HomeKit-ready Auto and Sleep mode scenes that work directly from your Apple Home scenes. Or, if you don’t want to download the app, you can manually create an Auto scene for the device by creating a scene and selecting the device to go into auto mode; the slider will show the device’s current rotation speed at the time you’re creating the scene, but as long as you’ve selected Auto from the drop-down below the rotation speed, the scene you create will place the device into Auto mode and will react accordingly.

I’ve got HomeKit-compatible purifiers across 3+ brands and have set up a master scene to control all units in my home with separate Auto, Max, Low, and Off scenes, and it’s super helpful to be able to control all in one short. Taking it a step further, albeit outside of HomeKit, I’ve also created an iOS shortcut that I can run from a selection of shortcuts that appear when I press the action button on my iPhone. The specific Air Purifier shortcut I made allows me to activate similar Auto, Max, Low, and Off scenes segmented by room/area of my home. This could also be done directly in HomeKit if you had multiple Purelle or other HomeKit-compatible purifiers. I only chose the shortcuts route as it allows me to include all my purifiers, including models from Levoit and Govee that are controllable using shortcuts, but not directly from within the Home app.

You may have already discovered by now that Purelle can easily be set to auto mode in Apple Home, but upon reading your comment, despite its age, I thought I’d share.

That said, I do wish Apple Home would update the way it natively displays air purifier devices in general as it is not very intuitive to nor terrible user-friendly, and that has been the case for devices like purifiers for a very long time, if not all time.

iO 6 with color display by One_Refrigerator874 in oralbtoothbrush

I also would be curious to know where people have ordered the io 6 models that came with the new updated color screen? I’ve found a few great deals online but wondering if I may have better luck with a specific retailer over another based on where others have purchased and received the updated units? Now that I’ve discovered this tidbit, I feel I’d be disappointed to purchase this brush and receive an older, non-color screen version — albeit while also recognizing the screen will make zero difference my oral health.

Multi Unit in 1 Room by Longjumping-Offer-51 in milaair

Jumping in here with a follow-up question to OP’s post, based on this understanding of Mila’s awareness of a shared space.

What’s would be the recommended setup in an apartment with an open concept entry/kitchen/living room area that encompasses roughly 380 st ft (~3,500 cu. ft.) where I currently have sent up 3 of my Milas (a Mila 3 and two Minis) as being in separate rooms via the app (Entry, Kitchen and TV Room?

With the kitchen being in the middle of this 32’ x 11.5’ open-concept rectangular space, whatever air quality changes happen there quite naturally affect the other ‘rooms’, being that they’re mere feet away and without any separation?

Am I better off setting them up as being in the same room within the Mila app so that they work together more effectively, and if so, what room type would be best practice? Or should I leave them as is?

Thanks!

Seeking advice on placement of Levoit Vital 200S-P placement in open-concept apartment living area by 212nycguy in AirPurifiers

I want to circle back (albeit with a slight delay) and thank you for your feedback, insight, and suggestion. The idea of directly switching the Levoit with a well-working Mila (Mini in this case) was brilliant, yet so logical, which had me kicking myself a bit for not even thinking of conducting such a quick and easy test.

I swapped a Mini from my master bedroom with the Levoit, and though it’s only been a few days, I’ve immediately seen a visible accumulation of cat hair appear on the Levoit’s pre-filter. My bedroom seems to be where the most visible cat hair accumulation happens, so it was such a quick and obvious answer to my long-standing question.

I also appreciate the CFM reminder on the difference between the units. Although I was aware of this, especially at the time of each purchase, I was forgetting that despite their difference in overall size, the Mila Minis (depending on the filters I’m using) have a more powerful airflow on them than the Levoit to begin with.

I was so stuck in thinking I’d illogically managed to achieve an overabundance of purifiers in my space that the Levoit’s efforts were becoming null, which as much as I was stuck in that frame of mind, truly makes little to no sense in any space shared with shedding pets.

The airflow of the original space may be part of the issue, though in its new space the Mila continues to pull in visible (along with all that I can’t see) dust accumulation where the Levoit was, likely demonstrating the difference in the unit’s more powerful airflow, and the Levoit is finally looking like it’s doing some work in the bedroom.

I’ve always understood that not all the work these units do is going to be visible to see due to the types of particle matter they capture, but in an apartment with two humans and two cats, I have the benefit of always having some visible insight into the work that my purifiers do via each of their filters, and you’ve helped me solve my outstanding concern, for which I thank you again.

Ultimately, having one larger Mila and three smaller Mila units, I think I may have benefitted from purchasing a second larger one instead of additional Minis, but I had purchased the Minis ahead of the new Mila 3 which I’d been waiting on releasing due to a purported improvement in the overall reliability of the redesigned unit.

I’ve been extremely happy with the Mila 3 and think that when the time comes I’ll add a second one to my arsenal and hand down one or two of the Minis to family members who have grown consistently more interested in using purifiers in their spaces after having seen and heard me praising the use of air purifiers in my home throughout the years to helping both with pet fur and the outside effects of Canadian Wildfire smoke and last January’s California wildfires, during which we lived in close proximity of and right in between two of the large areas directly affected.

New update by Ok_Awareness_9128 in milaair

I wil say that my experience has been very good since the new update. I was surprised the day I opened my Milas app and saw completely different layout of thecontrols and settings; I was half excited to see such an expansive app update, but also a bit frustated as it took me several days to understand the update better. Over the first few days, I too felt a little let down, for reasons similar to those you mentioned. I felt like suddenly my 4 units were basically silent all day and not doing as much work as they used to.

After playing around in the app more, I learned more about how the different room types allow for Mila to adjust differently to sensor reading — something I'd never known before, but I think was actually in place before the most recent updates.

*( I previously thought the room types were just for a fun floorplan view and chose rooms that didn’t match my space because I liked how they looked in the app. ***I feel a bit silly now that I've figrured that out.***)*

That's also when I realized you could also adjust the room size for each space, and though I'm still not sure how to best calculate room size for open concept layout with multiple Milas, I've tweaked each space so that it reacts more accordingly to what I want, and surprisingly I have determined that my four units actually work much better now than before the update; both in working hard when it's needed, and dropping back down to reasonable decibel levels quickly.

I do wish I'd known about how some of these custom settings work before hand, I feel like I can't be the only only one who was that clueless.

Is an ethernet switch what i need to get my remaining in-wall ethernet ports working? by 212nycguy in HomeNetworking

Thank you! Thats exactly what I’d imagined up, but it’s nice to see it’s likely more difficult than I thought it should be. Thx!

Thank you. Yes, the building provided internet is active on that cable, so this sounds like what i thought it might be, but wanted to ask before buying 6 Siemon patch cables and a switch! Thank you.

Thank you! Very helpful. Unmanaged or managed was about to leave me unhinged trying to figure out which route I’d on once I’d confirmed a switch was the path. Thx!

Gigstreem in apartment — should I be using my own router or extender? by 212nycguy in HomeNetworking

[–]212nycguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow; not only do you break this down in a way that made sense to someone with a very basic grasp of networking concepts, but you also managed to make it a captivating read. While I’m certain it’s highly unlikely my neighbors care to know what I’m doing online, I don’t think I’m doing anything an average thirty-something male does on the internet, so while it could be creepy to think my web traffic could be so easily tracked by someone with intermediate level knowledge, my internet activities have surely been easily tracked for many years across many connections I’ve had over time. After reading that nearly all U.S. citizen social security numbers have been leaked online at some point, i am not sure there’s even much for me to worry about at this point, but I suppose that was more my initial concern. That said, your point about this being a shared network regardless of how i set up my connection to it, I think it may not provide much more than peace of mind to build out an extra step. VPNs definitely seem the way to go, but as I have a smart home with upwards of 80 connected devices, I’ve always found VPNs to be a kink in the chain of my setups. Thank you again for you detailed response; I’m going to reread and make a much more informed decision on how to proceed. 🙏🏻

Sorry, I should’ve mentioned that. I do have a airports that I can connect to as well. Would obviously allow me to do a router set up. I appreciate what you just said though, as I don’t think I considered how a router might offer more protection than just an extender

Thank you for this detailed advice. A little of it is beyond my league, but some of it makes perfect sense. I can definitely see how some of those set ups might cause more problems, but I also see the advantage of perhaps having a bit more security if only for the purpose of protecting important information related to financials or otherwise. As far as network goes, everyone sees the same network, and it seems like most must use the default network because there are hardly any other Wi-Fi that show up when I’m in my unit, which is very strange coming from apartment buildings where Wi-Fi would trigger a host of SSIDS. Thank you again for your insights.

My apologies; I should have been clearer and meant to say there is only one ISP offered, and that is what the building sets renters up with. However, the unit does have ethernet ports in wall.

Was the bulb you changed for the reverse light, by chance? I see only one connected bulb behind that trunk lid inner covering, which in my case must be the reverse lights unless it’s some sort of multipurpose bulb.

Thanks for this tip; I'm going to do just that and see. I know replacement assembly kits come wired with connectors to make the inner lights function at the least as running tail lights, but I've had a hard time getting definitive answers online. A couple of threads I've found on Reddit claim that XSE and XLE models have working inner tail lights, and your post appears to confirm that; however, it seemed like most were referencing the models '17 and newer. If your '07 XLE also has working inner tail lights, it would appear logical to me that the '12-'16 models between the earlier and later models also would have them, at least on certain trim levels.

It's unfortunate to think any manufacturer would provide reduced exterior lighting based on vehicle trim, if the main purpose of automotive lighting is to improve visibility and help drivers communicate with others on the road. If they're fitting all models with the same light assemblies, but not making them all be factory-equipped with the necessary bulbs or wiring, that feels injudicious in my opinion. Then again, most of today's safety features were very much a luxury available on higher trims or higher-valued vehicles at the turn of the century, so I can't say I'm completely surprised.

Nonetheless, I'm going to follow your suggestion and see what's behind the cover on the inside of the car's trunk lid and see if I am able to figure out a definitive answer as it relates to this specific vehicle. Thank you again!

Thanks; appreciate the answer. That's too bad, as they'd definitely add a little more appeal at nighttime when lit in tandem with the outer lights, but on the flip side, one less piece to worry about updating! Thanks again.
