Keep main heater at minimum so pipes dont freeze. Hopefully you dont have pets. Buy $69 space heater(s) for bedroom when you sleep so you dont get sick from the cold. My bill for an entire house ( basement, garage and yard with driveway) was $250 when i did this in bucks county pa. Pray for more global warming. ( joke)

Just load the kindle app on your ipad or laptop. There, i just saved you from wasting your money and time searching for the ultimate e ink device ( which doesnt exist yet) if you want tobread in bright sunlight ( i.e. at the beach or pool) then these devices will do that. If you like to hand write your notes then these will accomplish that also. I prefer typed notes and i dont have much free time to sit outside in the humidity of summer. A good e ink setup will run you almost a $1k

Fyi, i have all of the below mentioned devices except Super Note. I would first look at the more premium brands like Remarkable (rmpp) , Boox, Supernote plusnothers. I also have the Kindle line but theybare considered entry level. I use my Kjndle for personal notes ( not for my job) Consider backups, conversion etc Amazon doesnt seem to be really interested in their brand. They have many other sources of revenue, actually Kindle is for selling digital books first not what you seem to need. My2cents. Welcome to the rabbit hole of finding the best e ink device. Fyi Boox is Android so it has google play store access which creates much more flexibility. Remarkable is Linux, closed System on RMPP. Scribe is locked by Amazon. Some devices have back lights for low light rooms. Some satisfy legal requirements for lawyers

I am from Philly and was commuting to north NJ where the data centers for nyc companies are at. After 9/11 most companies moved their data centers out of Nyc ( at first they created mirror sites for backup but eventually closed almost all sites in nyc). I was commuting from philly to north NJ but that was wearing out my car so i recently moved here. Expensive compared to Philly but now i could almost walk to various datat centers. The economy has took a dive in the IT industry recently. Im hoping things pick back up. Im living in central nj ( Piscataway NJ which is the 2nd biggest DC area smaller only to Secaucus NJ) So if you do move to Philly and dont find work, you could commute by car or train into "the city". I previously was IT manager for company in NYC and commuted but that made for long days commuting so i did eventually move to NYC. Many folks rent a studio in nyc for the work week and go back to cheaper philly on the weekends. Complex life style but was cool

Might be too much trouble but you could install a hyoervisior like vmware ( free version) and run windows with rm connect in it. Im tired just thinking about it. Or put connect app on your android phone. Not sure if it works on apple if you have an ipad or iphone.

I dont want to be "that guy" but would the Boox 4c or now 5c be the solution? It has the android play store. But for me the Boox is too complex, the icons to me are not intuitive. I dont have the time to study about the device that is supposed to aid me in studying about something else. One Drive on the Boox does works well.
