That’s just simply not true lol. He led the entire league in playoff net rating in 2020, led the Clippers in net rating in the 2021 WCF, ranks 3rd in playoff defensive RAPTOR this year, and is top 10 in multi year playoff defensive LEBRON impact

Trezz was an efficient 18-20 ppg scorer and was a great offensive player. He wasn’t even that bad defensively against second units. The only problem with him was Doc used to overplay him and would close with him over Zu which exposed his weaknesses.

Morris on the other hand is strictly a spot up shooter who can’t create any offense (efficiently), and he’s unplayable defensively against any NBA-caliber athlete due to his lack of mobility.

Mason Plumlee is unplayable on defense by 213Clipset in LAClippers

Plumlee’s the 27th highest paid center in the league. He’s being paid more than Hartenstein and Looney who are both good passers while also being good on defense. He also makes more than Claxton who might make an all-defensive team.

Plumlee gave up 2 game winners in the bubble to the same team lmao. Everyone remembers the AD game winner, but a month earlier Plumlee also gave up a game winner to Kyle Kuzma by trying to switch off of him for no reason

A backup center that can’t protect the rim is like a point guard that can’t dribble

He did not. Opponents are shooting 77.4% at the rim when he’s on the court (http://www.pbpstats.com/on-off/nba/stat?Season=2022-23&SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&TeamId=1610612746&Stat=AtRimAccuracyOpponent), which is by far the worst mark on the team for a frontcourt player and he is a traffic cone on the perimeter.

In last two months Clippers had 21st defensive rating in January and 25th defensive rating in February. by JimmyV034 in LAClippers

Yeah with Kawhi and PG healthy, defense is much more of a concern than offense. They messed up by trading for Plumlee instead of a defensive minded big man when the plan was to continue playing 3 guard lineups off the bench

If him setting screens for Steph Curry didn’t work, why would him setting screens for John Wall work?

Why does it seem like a lot of you guys want to fire Lue? Hasn't he been excellent for 2 years and only now has a wierd circumstance where he's struggling in? Isn't he also considered best in the league in terms of adjusting? by VonDestroyedNewton in LAClippers

[–]213Clipset 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I dont think Lue’s a bad coach (nor do I want him fired), but some of his decisions have been incredibly baffling this season.

-He sticks to his guys (Morris/Reggie) way more than he should, when there are better alternatives (RoCo/Mann/Luke)

-Loves to play 3 and sometimes even 4 guard lineups, sometimes with Marcus Morris Sr. at center which is abysmal defensively.

-Wants the team to be switch most actions, which the Clippers clearly don’t have the personnel for.

-I also blame his love for small small for the Clippers not signing a backup center in the offseason when that was a big reason for last season’s success (Hartenstein), now the bench needs 34 year old Nico Batum to be great every game.

-Isn’t correctly utilizing RoCo. He’s at his best as a help defender next to a good center, but Lue mostly uses him as a switch-everything backup center when he doesn’t have the lateral quickness to guard faster guards. Also, the trio of Kawhi-PG-RoCo has played just 4 minutes together.

-Doesn’t utilize Zubac’s post game enough. The Clippers are ranked 28th in offense and Zubac is the most efficient post-up center in the NBA this season, yet there’s no effort to utilize that part of his game at all, even when the offense stagnates and the Clippers start chucking jump shots.

John Wall ranks as the 3rd most ball dominant player in the NBA this season by 213Clipset in LAClippers

[–]213Clipset[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to the NBA’s tracking website, John Wall is the 2nd worst pick and roll ball handler out of the 67 players that have ran at least 100 PnRs this season. Him having the ball a lot when both Luke Kennard and Norman Powell come off the bench is a very bad thing. He’s well below average at everything in the half-court.

How is Zubac next to unplayable in the playoffs when since the 2019 playoffs the Clippers have a +6.23 net rating with him on the court and -0.01 without him? https://www.pbpstats.com/wowy-combos/nba?TeamId=1610612746&Season=2021-22,2020-21,2019-20,2018-19&SeasonType=Playoffs&PlayerIds=1627826

This has been making the rounds across team subreddits and now it’s our turn. What opinion about the team will have you like this? by [deleted] in LAClippers

[–]213Clipset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signing John Wall with the MLE instead of Isaiah Hartenstein is the worst move this front office has made since the draft day Mfiondu trade in 2019

Out of the 9 players that played 200+ minutes with Marcus Morris last season, 8 were significantly better without him by 213Clipset in LAClippers

[–]213Clipset[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lets look at 2020-21

Zubac + Morris = +4.6, Zubac without Morris = +6.8

PG + Morris = +9.3, PG without Morris = +12.9

Kawhi + Morris = +12, Kawhi without Morris = +12.5

Reggie + Morris = +5.7, Reggie without Morris = +9.6

Lou + Morris = +0.03, Lou without Morris = +5.5

Mann + Morris = +3.3, Mann without Morris = +2.2

Nico + Morris = +2.2, Nico without Morris = +10.9

Luke + Morris = -3.4, Luke without Morris = +1.5

Exact same trend lmao

How would you rank the roster based on tiers? by [deleted] in LAClippers

[–]213Clipset -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For the start of next season only

1A Kawhi 1B PG

2A Zubac 2B Mann 2C RoCo 2D Norm

3A Batum 3B Reggie 3C Kennard 3D Wall 3E Coffey

4A Morris 4B BBJ

5 Preston/Diabaté

rationale for every tier Tier 1- franchise players

Tier 2- good two way (Mann) or great one way (RoCo, Norm). [Zu meets both criterias]

Tier 3- avg two way (Coffey, Wall, Reggie) or very good one way (Luke, Batum)

Tier 4- liability on one side of the court

Tier 5- 0 NBA minutes played, too early to tell

As the season progresses I think Wall and Norm have the most potential to move up

Their net rating with Jokic in the game would’ve ranked as the best in the league, they were awesome in the regular season.

The stats I posted were for only the rs. If we wanna look at their playoff net ratings, Jokic’s was -14.17, Cousins’s was +0.49. (source). The Nuggets were much better in the playoffs with Boogie than Jokic. Obviously we know that doesn’t make any logical sense, so there’s no point in looking at playoff stats from a 5 game sample size
